Education 2017- present Wadiyar Center for Architecture, Mysuru
Architecture is looking at us on every level - conciously, less conciously. Influencing the way we live and the choices that we make. Such influence is derived from culture, location, ethnicity, beliefs. For me architecture is ‘experience of art as a given environment’ takes care of experience of human beings. In this modern era the approach to the environment is changing with technology, work style, changing means of home, settling down.

During the course of architecture journey, I have developed an interest towards design process, Seamless integration between the internal and external environment, Developing new programs which intends to support the contemporary living. I hope to find expression and direction for my ideas in the days to come. Thank you.

The complex would with hold several programs. The primary program is a Library that occupies fifty percent of the floor area. The rest of the area is among a co- working space, Retail space, Recreation area that consists of programs of the street scale, particular to Saraswathipuram, Mysuru.
INITIAL SKETCHES Site location : The site is located in located
in Saraswathipuram, Mysuru. It lies adjacent to the ‘Jawaregowda park’ between the fifth cross and third cross and third cross.
Site area : 3000 sq.m Area to be built : 6000 sq.m Studio brief:
The task of the semester was set out by first understanding what means for a space to be public, some factors that affect the spectrum of “ publicness ” - like accessibility, activation etc. To create “Third place“ for the community of Saraswathipuram was the goal. A time problem was done which brought in an understanding of manipulating form to bring about different natures of ”publicness“. The brief was to simply create an archetypal model of a public place that is particular to Sarawathipuram, with the tool of a section. Case studies were done to understand the place, technical aspects of public buildings and libraries were done, as well as a few literature studies on the use of section. The programs were also selected based on the place and its needs. Most off the semester involved looking into the programs selected, looking into the site, looking into the place and ultimately, looking into achieving apt solutions to cater to the ” publicness “at every
level mentioned.

Site area : 2500 sq.m Area to be built : 3000 sq.m Studio brief: The task intends to design housing for a user group with a shared interest. Space need not be for permanent residents only but a space that allows people with shared interests to share the space as a floating population living for a short duration of time . Different scales of open spaces accommodate varying capacities of people .The task also expects the design to be flexible in which each house is considered simultaneously as a unit and in relation to the whole group, without losing the quality, rigor and standardisation that the social housing requires.

RELATED STUDY PROGRAM SEMESTER 3
Udiyalur is a village situated in the south of India around 12 km from Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. Udiyalur being in the delta region of river Cauvery, the eastern part of the Indian Peninsula, receives northeast monsoon. It holds nutrient-rich alluvial soils whose deposits are brought by slowing river. The land is known for the growth of paddy along with black gram, sugar cane, maize, etc. Udiyalur was initially renowned as 'Bhoopathirajapuram'. Brahmins found a way to survive through their intellect and employed workers because the water was abundant.
HOUSE 5
05
This is another house on the corner site just opposite to the previous one. This is home to a family of four, Sairam, a boy studying in class 8, his parents and his sister, who is physically challenged. Sairam goes to school in kumbakonam from 7 to 5. His sister is doing her diploma in computer applications. Her father is an agriculturist. The house is managed by Sairam’ s mother, who stays home and does the chores all day long. It is evidently half the width of the previous house. This house resonates with the other houses more become of its evidently shifted axis and courtyard. What makes this house different is that it has 2 huge silos, which store grains and hence have no windows towards the street. Also the additional wooden jali now makes the thinnai kind of redundant with its purpose becoming that of storage and only sometimes consolidation. In the courtyard also an additional L shaped partitioning wall is seen behind of which a small washing area is concealed. Experientially this courtyard and hall is the designed the same way as the previous house with the exception that this house being smaller in size gives a more domestic scale to the space making it more intimate. The wooden granary instead of taking up a large chuck of area beside the kitchen like in the previous house is tucked behind the visual barrier of the L shaped wall. Out into the utility space a similar evolution can be traced with rcc washrooms creeping in. Despite the fact that this house unlike the previous one is still being used the backyard seems to be neglected here too. Which as a matter of fact is a trend seen through out the village. An assumption can be made that the well in the back yard had become a civic anchor to activities in the back yard and since now the well is not used the back yard is neglected as well. Another speculation is that thebackyard might have been a place where the maids of the house resided in the earlier days when they didn’ t own properties of their own.

PLAN - HOUSE 5
HOUSE 6
The house is on a corner plot with one street towards its shorter west face and the other towards its longer south face. Despite street being on two faces the house is accessible only from its shorter side like in all the other houses. However even before one enters the house it is very evident that the house is much wider than any other neighbouring house which could very well be an indication of wealth. You climb a couple of short steps to reach the thrushhold of the house the thinnai on either sides of the thrush hold is now covered with a wooden jali (safe to assume might have been a recent addition) the jali makes the thinnai a more exclusive and dark space. From here you enter the house through a narrow passageway and it only gets darker before a flush of lights contract your pupils and the heart of the house reveals itself to you in this house particularly enough the courtyard was in the centre rather than being tucked towards one side, this created an additional pathway that let to the utility space behind surpassing the hall region where the members of the family are to spend most there time. This path may have been for the maids of the house. The courtyard becomes the anchor to the hall the kitchen and the rooms. Although the courtyard has an important role to play the courtyard on its own is of no use in theudaiyalur climate, habitable space is actually the hall. The kitchen is a dark room sparingly lit by a small sky light which also acts as a channel for rain water. Through the kitchen there is also an access to the utility area. The courtyard and the utility are separated by a buffer zone which became a wooden granary in this house another partition wall seemingly added later helps emphasis this separation. once in the utility space one can see yet another courtyard of a much smaller scale than the previous one suggesting that it was intended to be more private. This courtyard is viewed through a pavilion raised at a plinth higher than the courtyard where activities of the kitchen could have spilled onto, however In the now abandoned house this region has become an extension to the wooden granary. It is interesting to observe how this region of the house has responded to the changing times as in the earliest days the people of the house might have depended on a well for water which is still residing in the back yard of the house a later generation might have had a tube well also seen in the utilitarian region and the most recent one may have also added washrooms in this area (evident by the shift in material used from brick to rcc). The entire house has a settling feeling which is characteristic to any house in udaiyalur, a laid back speed which is a result of the stretched out transition spaces, pause point and a relatable scale.
