ABOUT ACUE’s mission is to ensure student success through quality instruction. We believe that every faculty member deserves the support and preparation needed to teach well, so that every student receives an extraordinary education. In partnership with institutions of higher education, ACUE prepares, credentials, and provides on-going support to faculty in the use of evidence-based teaching practices that promote student engagement, persistence to graduation, career readiness, and deeper levels of learning. Faculty who satisfy the requirements of ACUE’s courses through institutional partnerships or open enrollment courses earn certificates in effective college instruction endorsed by the American Council on Education. Through ACUE’s Community of Professional Practice, ACUE’s members enjoy ongoing support to refine their teaching, stay current on research, and advance the national conversation. Through efficacy studies with partner colleges and universities nationwide, we’re demonstrating that our faculty members can make the greatest difference.
Faculty members remain our most valuable “student success” resource. We know which teaching approaches promote stronger achievement. Through our institutional partnerships, open enrollment courses and community, ACUE equips faculty with comprehensive teaching methods necessary for excellence in every class. Faculty credentialed by ACUE are recognized for their commitment to student success and excellence in teaching. In every institutional partnership or open enrollment course, faculty collaborate with peers and receive guidance from expert facilitators—often through an institution’s teaching center. Courses include numerous instructional resources, interviews with leading experts, and demonstration videos to see, and learn from, great teaching in action. This practical and relevant experience helps faculty learn more deeply about—and implement—approaches across all of the competencies in ACUE’s Effective Practice Framework.

LETTER FROM FRANK NIGRO Congratulations on your completion of the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) course in Effective Online Teaching Practices, and on earning a nationally recognized Certificate in Effective College Instruction endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE). Faculty who complete this course have been shown in multiple studies to have better student success rates and higher rates of persistence, and there’s also a direct, positive impact upon students from traditionally under served backgrounds. What you have done by taking this course will ripple positively in our community for years to come. Several years ago, I became aware of the incredible professional development opportunities offered by ACUE. My hope was that if we could find a way, our faculty would take advantage of it. And take advantage they did, as evidenced by your efforts. A great Shasta College teacher whom I highly respect once told me she will never stop learning. And it has been said, great teachers never stop being great students. You have shown amazing dedication in completing this course at a time when so many other demands could have claimed your attention. Thank you for your commitment to growing as a professional, for your persistence, and for all you do for our students and community. With appreciation,
Frank Nigro, Ph.D. Assistant Superintendent Vice President of Instruction

LETTER FROM EVA JIMENEZ Congratulations to all of you who have completed the ACUE course on Effective Online Teaching Practices. Although we have had several other graduating classes since 2019, your group weathered a significant storm in the form of a global pandemic while engaged in completing this course! Your commitment to your students and your professional development during such a trying time is noteworthy. Many of you converted existing classes to a new online format for the first time, while others were learning strategies to make existing online courses more impactful for students. Regardless of your situation, I applaud you for completing your certification during the stresses of our unstable world. I hope that each of you gained knowledge, enhanced your courses, and found a supportive network of peers during this program. Our students are more successful because of YOU! Thank you for being leaders on our campus, and congratulations.

LETTER FROM
ACADEMIC DIRECTOR
Faculty, I commend you for taking on the challenge of improving your teaching in the name of success for all students. Completing this year-long course goes well beyond attending a typical workshop or learning community. It takes willingness to seek continuous improvement of your teaching practice and dedication to helping students succeed. By learning these evidence-based practices, you are leveraging pedagogical research to transform your teaching. Thank you for your commitment to enhancing the student learning experience at Shasta College. Also, thank you to Joanne Tippin, the exceptional facilitator of this course who diligently supported faculty in this effort all year. Her encouragement, pedagogical insights, and occasional nudges were critical to the success of this cohort. Please join me in celebrating Shasta College’s newly credentialed faculty for their achievement! We look forward to hearing more about how they continue to impact students in and out of the classroom. Best wishes,
Charity S. Peak, Ph.D. Academic Director, ACUE

What a helpful professional development experience! ACUE is entirely first-rate in what it offers. I found a tremendous value in how it informed and inspired ongoing refinement in my teaching. Thank you!
Teachers have three loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the first two loves together.’ Scott Hayden from ACUE was invaluable in helping me bring the first two loves together.
Students should be approached and taught as individuals; I believe it depends so much on how much they can hear us.
Working with our students at Shasta College just makes my heart sing!!!!
