SHASTA COLLEGE KNIGHTS - TRAINERS AND STAFF

Cindy Silva Admission and Records Technician III (Eligibility)

Mike has over 30 years of athletic training experience. During his career, he has worked with professional, college, and high school athletes. Mike did his undergraduate work at California State University, Chico and received his Master of Science degree from the University of Arizona. Mike is certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. His spirit, enthusiasm and wisdom comes from his wife, Lee and their two children, Cody and Micaela.

Jay Axtell Equipment Technician

Jay started in 1999 as our fulltime Equipment Technician. He is responsible for all of the athletic equipment. Jay is a very important part of the Shasta College support team. Jay’s family now includes his first grandchild.

Sonia Moss

Administrative Assistant

Sonia received her Associate degree from Shasta College before transferring to Chico State where she further earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration – Management and a Minor in Sustainability. She has been employed by Shasta College since 2012 and enjoys being a part of the Physical Education and Athletics division. Sonia also feels “honored to be a part of student success – helping students to achieve their personal, educational and career goals while creating lasting memories of their experiences here at Shasta College”.

Starlyn Corley Administrative Assistant

Starlyn was hired by Shasta College in 2001. Starlyn enjoys working in the educational field and is thrilled to be working with Physical Education and Athletics. “It’s wonderful to be around such a great group of students and instructors. It’s a pleasure to come to work each day.”

Cindy serves as the Compliance Officer for the College, whose job it is to certify the eligibility of all of our 330+ student athletes. She is extremely dedicated to this task and goes out of her way to make sure all the athletes receive the attention they need to be eligible to participate. THANK YOU, Cindy!!

Haley Mulvihill Head Athletic Trainer

Haley received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Lindenwood University in 2012 where she played water polo competitively. Haley received a Master of Science with an emphasis in Exercise Science from Humboldt State University in 2014. Since becoming a Certified Athletic Trainer Haley has worked in the physical therapy, university, and community college settings. Haley brings a diverse range of experience to the Shasta College training staff. She is excited to be a part of Shasta College Athletics!

Health/Wellness Services

The Health & Wellness office coordinates the student athletic/accident insurance program as well as provide quality health services to our students. Transportation

Jason Kelly has been with Shasta College since 2001. He has enjoyed being a part of athletics as a college athlete, coach and counselor. After attending and playing baseball at Shasta College, Jason earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at California State University, Sacramento and his Master of Science Degree from the University of La Verne. Jason and his wife, Mandi, have two sons, Dalton and Luke.

The Shasta College Athletics Department salutes the dedicated transportation professionals who provide the safe and reliable travel for our students and/ or coaches. This group, under the leadership of Pam Carney, shows a true care and concern for all of our sports teams. We are proud to have them as a part of our athletic family. Physical Plant

Shasta College is very proud of our fields and grounds staff. These dedicated professionals are responsible for keeping all of our athletic fields in top shape. With the challenges of extreme summer heat and cold winters, the job of preparing the fields for competition is a very demanding one. The “grounds crew” is definitely a major part of our Athletic Department team. They take great pride in their work and it shows in everything they do. Pat McNamara, Aaron Mangrum, Sean McCune, Sean Harden, Ryan Keeler.

Bryon Hamilton Head Coach

Coach Bryon Hamilton returns for his third season as the Knight’s Head Football Coach. In coach Hamilton’s first season, the Knights went 7-3 in the regular season and participated in the Golden Gate Bowl (50-43 overtime loss). In year 2, the Knights won the North Conference in a covid shortened season. Hamilton previously served as Assistant Head Coach under the leadership of Coach Craig Thompson. In Hamilton’s first stint with the Knights (1996-2001), Hamilton was the architect of one of the top offenses in California. Hamilton had the privilege of coaching several allstate and all-conference players, including the 1997 first team All American quarterback and Knights Hall of Fame inductee, Ricky Ray. From 20022012 Hamilton served as the Head Football Coach at Foothill High School in Palo Cedro. Under his leadership, the football program enjoyed great success. His teams won 77 games, 4 league titles and appeared in 4 NSCIF championship games, winning a CIF title with an undefeated record in 2007.

Hamilton is a 1987 graduate of Enterprise High School and a 1992 Graduate of Long Beach State University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. He was a member (1987-1991) of the NCAA Div. 1 football program at Long Beach State where he played for Hall of Fame coach George Allen. Coach Hamilton holds a Master’s Degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University in Irvine, California Prior to his full-time position at Shasta, Hamilton spent 22 years as an educator at Foothill High School. He resides in Redding, Ca with his wife Amber, daughter Presley Hamilton (18), daughter Riley Hamilton (22); Beau Hamilton (son), married to Kate Hamilton, is currently a law enforcement officer in Mount Shasta.

Craig Thompson Assistant Head CoachDefensive Coordinator

Craig Thompson returns for his 31st year as a Shasta College football coach. Coach Thompson will serve as the defensive coordinator, linebacker coach and assistant head coach. Craig Thompson began his coaching career as assistant coach of the Shasta College football program in 1991 under long time coach and mentor, Leon Donohue. During his Assistant Coaching tenure, he served as the Linebackers Coach (1991-1992) and Defensive Coordinator (1993-1999). Coach Thompson is a 1983 graduate of Enterprise High School where he excelled in football under Coach Jim Sinyard and Ron Wooley. After high school, Thompson attended Shasta College where he started as a linebacker for two seasons at Shasta (1983 & 1984). During his playing career at Shasta College, Coach Thompson earned All-Conference recognition, was selected as a team captain, and received team M.V.P honors for the 1984 season. He continued his education and playing career (19951996) at Humboldt State University (HSU), and was a two-year starter and earned All-Conference honors during his playing career at HSU.

Thompson began his coaching career at Eureka High School, serving as an Assistant Varsity Coach during the 1989 season. The next two seasons, he returned to HSU to become a graduate Assistant Coach where he completed his Master’s degree and served as a Linebacker Coach during the 1989-1990 seasons. Coach Thompson loves being a member of the local community and the Shasta College family. He and his wife Renee have three beautiful daughters: Alisha, Amy, and Emily. Their eldest daughter, Alisha, is married to Virgil Woods, current football coach at Enterprise High School.

Rudy Anberg Assistant CoachOffensive Support

Rudy Anberg serves as an assistant football coach on the offensive side of the ball. Before joining the Knights, Anberg coached for four seasons with his son-in-law, Bryon Hamilton, at Foothill High School in Palo Cedro, California. Prior to his coaching experience, Anberg served as a football official in the North State in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Rudy is a long time resident of Shasta County where he and his wife, Sandee, reside. Coach Anberg attended Shasta College as well as Sacramento State University. He is a fixture at local sporting events where he is a fan of all the local programs. “My wife and I are extremely blessed to have our children and grandchildren all living in Shasta County. I am very excited about participating in the Shasta College Football Program and being a part of a great team of players and coaches.”

Sam Daskin

Assistant CoachRunning Backs & Special Teams Coordinator

Sam Diskin joins the Knights coaching staff where he will be working with the running backs and servings as the Special Teams Coordinator. Sam comes to Shasta College after coaching for six seasons at Foothill High School in Palo Cedro, CA where he served as the offensive coordinator. Sam was a member of the Knight football program in 2009 -2011. Sam’s father Matt Diskin, coached the Knights for several decades under head coach Craig Thompson. Matt Diskin was recently voted into the CCCAA football coaches Hall of Fame. Sam Diskin resides in Redding, Ca with his wife Carolyn and his son’s Jack (1) and Max (born in August, 2021).
