graduating from Enterprise High School, I moved to Sacramento to go to a community college and transfer to UC Davis. Unfortunately, I had little guidance once I made it to college, and I eventually dropped out. I became involved in abusive and toxic relationships that ultimately led me down the wrong path. By my mid-20s, I had ended up in Shasta County Jail. At this point, I realized I needed to make some serious changes in my life. After my release, I joined the Shasta College STEP-UP program. In high school, I was an average student. However, with the help and support of STEP-UP, I have earned straight A’s every semester at Shasta College and also at Chico State!

I am just a few semesters away from earning my B.S. in Business from CSU Chico. I also work as a student mentor for STEP-UP, where I can help other students get on a better path and find their success. I love that I can give back to STEP-UP because I genuinely appreciate everything they have done for me.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION – WAYS TO REGISTER

ONLINE – Visit https://shastacollege.coursestorm.com. In the Community Education online catalog, click the links to view courses in each category. To register for a class, click the “Register” link. Please note: if this is your first time using our online registration system, you will need to create a new account. You will be prompted through the registration process. In the future, you will not need to re-enter your information.

TELEPHONE – Enrolling in classes is just a phone call away with your credit or debit card. Call us at (530) 242-7677. Please have your credit card and the name(s) of your class(es) ready for prompt service.

PAYMENT FOR CLASSES – Payments for classes are due at registration. We accept cash, check (personal, business, or online) as well as Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Pre-registration is important. If we do not reach the minimum number of participants necessary to prevent a revenue loss, we reserve the right to cancel any class prior to the start date. Please note: class schedules are subject to change.

CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY

– We do not like to cancel classes; however, sometimes it is necessary to cancel before the first meeting when enrollments do not reach a minimum. If we do not have enough students registered for a class prior to its start date, it will be cancelled. Every effort is made to notify registered students of the cancellation, by phone and/or by email. For this reason, we must have a current daytime phone number and email address on file. This course will be an introduction to Mindfulness Meditation suitable for ongoing mindfulness students. SHOTOKAN KARATE

Shotokan Karate is the authentic traditional karate for the mind, body and spirit!! Get stronger physically and mentally!! This class focuses on basics including stances, blocks, punches, kicks and Kata (pre-arranged fighting forms). This class is a combined class of Beginning and Intermediate levels. ACTIVE SELF-DEFENSE

This workshop is designed for anyone, ages 10 and up. Our goal is to introduce and show you how to apply simple yet highly effective techniques. We will demonstrate and have you participate escaping from multiple scenarios. Have you ever considered learning how to protect yourself or the ones you love? This can be the first step in learning how to potentially avoid trouble. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to defend yourself from a standing position along with how to escape an attack once on the ground.

AQUA AEROBICS

Water aerobics is a fun way for adults to stay active and fit. It’s also easier on your joints than doing a traditional gym workout and can even help relieve nagging aches and pains. Doing water aerobics has multiple health benefits. Exercising in water can strengthen your muscles and joints without putting stress on them. You’ll get your heart rate up but the water will keep you cool and comfortable while you work out. This class is for participants at any skill level.

AQUA AEROBICS DEEP WATER CONDITIONING

This class is a cross training and rehabilitation method using low impact resistance training which can produce aerobic results, improve full range of motion, increase strength, all without impacting joints. Participants wear a buoyancy belt also called an Aqua Jogger belt and move in various running motions suspended in deep water. This activity is not advised for the unskilled swimmer. Each participant will need to bring their own aqua jogger belt appropriate for their individual level of buoyancy. They can be found online. Prices will vary, $35 and up depending on source.

INCIDENT SAFETY AWARENESS

Any private contractor or person employed by a private contractor who desires to participate in a wildland fire and may be subject to assignment on the fire line must complete this annual training. The intent of this 8-hour course is to provide private "hired equipment vendors" with the minimum training necessary to satisfy CAL FIRE and the Federal Wildland Fire Agencies generic hiring requirements for hired equipment vendors. Typical assignments include: Dozer Operator, Water Tender Operator, Tree Faller, etc. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate from the California Office of the State Fire Marshal. This course is part of the Fire Service Training and Education Program. The course fee includes the certificate cost and student text.

Fee includes student handbook and fire card.

The program you are about to participate in has been recognized by regulatory authorities, courts of law, and the industrial truck training industry as meeting and exceeding all regulatory requirements and national standards for the safe operation of forklifts. The law requires that you - regardless of your previous experience operating forklifts - receive theoretical and hands-on training on safe forklift operation. In addition, your knowledge and ability to operate a forklift safely must be evaluated.

VOLLEYBALL CAMP

This is a fun, fast-paced, skill-oriented, character and team building experience! Correct technique and fundamentals will be taught and reinforced through practice. All skill levels are welcome and participants will receive group and individualized instruction according to their level of skill and experience. Specialized instruction will be made available for setters, middle blocker/hitters, outside hitters, and liberos/defensive players. Basic through advanced instruction will be covered for the following skills: passing, setting/overhand passing, serving, spiking and offensive plays, blocking, defense, game strategies for offense and defense. Campers should wear comfortable clothing, athletic shoes, and knee pads. Please leave all jewelry and electronics at home. PLEASE NOTE: the campus cafeteria will be closed during the summer. Campers may bring their own lunch, snacks, beverage, etc. and their own cooler.
