WELCOME TO SHASTA COLLEGE ATHLETICS

Shasta College has a long and rich tradition in Intercollegiate Athletics. As a community college, we strive to foster a strong link between our athletes’ success in their chosen sport and in the classroom. We truly desire to help them become all that the term ‘student athlete’ infers. Shasta College is committed to the values of the California Community College Commission on Athletics: Student Health and Welfare, Academic Success, Ethical Conduct, Recognition of Excellence, Gender Equity, and Non-Discrimination.

I have enjoyed watching many of our student athletes over the past years as they demonstrated their abilities and showed a strong commitment to our college and the programs it offers. Our dedicated coaches, faculty, staff and administration work tirelessly to provide many opportunities for our students to develop stronger character, leadership and teamwork skills that will serve them in the many fields in which they will work upon transfer or graduation. All of us at Shasta College recognize and appreciate the tremendous community support of our athletic program and join you as you help our students gain the skills and abilities not only to succeed, but to thrive after college. I wish all the best to our athletes, teams, coaches and support staff. Go Knights!

Physical Education and Athletics

Thank you for taking the time to attend and enjoy our Athletic Programs! We are very proud of all of the student-athletes and coaches that comprise the 17 intercollegiate sports currently offered at Shasta College. We are committed to seeing our student-athletes succeed on the field but, more importantly, in the classroom. I hope you enjoy watching our teams compete while also remembering the demands these student-athletes must balance with their respective sport and their academic responsibilities.

Thank you for your interest and support of Shasta College Athletics! Go Knights!

Anthony brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the Knight’s coaching staff.

Ian Montague Assistant Coach

Ian Montague will be serving as the throws coach for Shasta College. He is a returning member of the Shasta Track program, having practiced with the team for a duration of four years, competing in two seasons across all four throwing events. Discus is his favored event, in which he reached the conference podium.

Ian was born and raised in Redding California and graduated from Redding Christian High School where he has coached track and football for the past five years. He left Shasta only recently, and is pursuing a degree in computer engineering from San Jose State.

J.P. O’Hara Assistant Coach

J.P. O’Hara has been coaching track and field for over two decades. His athletic career started at Loyola High School of Los Angeles, where he ran the 300m Hurdles and 110 High Hurdles. He was a CIF Southern Section Finalist with a time of 38.9 in the 300m Hurdles. At Whittier College he ran the 400m hurdles with a personal best of 55.9 which is still one of the fastest times ever run by a Whittier College Poet.

In 2000 J.P. started coaching at his High School alma mater in both Football and Track. He was Chris Conte’s first coach in track and football. Chris went on to play at Cal Berkeley and then in the NFL for the Bears and Buccaneers from 2011 - 2018. In 2015 J.P. moved to Redding and immediately began coaching hurdles and sprints at Enterprise High School. He coached the 2017 team that broke the CIF Northern Section record in the 4x400m relay. He has coached multiple hurdlers that have made it to the CIF State Meet over the past few years.

J.P. comes from a pedigree of coaching, as his brother is a football coach at the University of Florida. In his free time he enjoys doing crossfit, backpacking and fly fishing with his wife, and best friend Teri.

Kylanna Blufford Assistant Coach

Kylanna competed for shasta college in 2019. Unfortunately she would go down mid season with a career ending injury. Prior to her injury Kylanna was on pace for a breakout year. She picked up to career best one in long jump one in triple jump and she was at the top of conference in both. Rather then let the injury sideline her permanently Kylanna would come back later in the year as a “coach” where she shadowed coach Williams with the jumpers and sprinters. She fell in love with the coaching aspect and proved to be a great help. Because of this Williams offered her a spot to help coach at Simpson with him during the cross and track seasons. “Coach Ky” was in charge of all weight room duties for cross country and track and took over as the sprints coach for Williams. Kylanna is majoring in kinesiology with Aspiration of becoming a head coach one day.

Ojimar “Oj” Rosero Assistant Coach

Ojimar “Oj” Rosero is a graduate of Edison High School in Stockton, CA. Where he was an All-Section Sprinter and All League football player. During his junior year he was chosen to represent the United States of America in track and field. He traveled to Europe, Asia, and Africa competing with top high school athletes from across the country. While in Denmark he broke the youth 100m record. His senior year he went undefeated in the 100m and 200m sprints winning the league and section. His season ended after qualifying to go to the state meet but tearing his hamstring in the 200m. For family reasons he chose to attend CSU Chico to play football and run track. After a year at CSU Chico, he transferred to Butte college where he helped Butte go undefeated and win the GVC title in both football and track.

A torn Achilles tendon injury ended his athletic career, but began his coaching career. Coach Rosero became a personal trainer and opened TeamRo Sports Training, where he worked with Middle School, High School and College athletes. Many of Coach Rosero’s athletes went on to receive scholarships and athletic awards throughout their careers. Coach Rosero moved to Redding and began coaching at Foothill High School coaching football and Sequoia Middle School track. Helping Sequoia win four league championships in seven years. In 2021, Rosero became the assistant wide receiver coach for Shasta College’s football team. Rosero’s most proud track achievement was helping his son win 100m and 200m titles in high school, Junior College and College. Coach Rosero is thankful for his loving wife Jaymi and their children Chris, Alyssa, Kai, and Jayden.

Somedays are better than others, Today is one of those days! “O”
