SHATIKA PRESENTS NARAYANPET SILK SAREES

NATTY NARAYANPET SILK SAREES It is said that when the Maratha king, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj travelled to the Narayanpet region, a town in Mahbubnagar district of Telangana, he camped there for a while and when he continued on his journey, a few weavers stayed behind. These were the weavers who weaved saris with a distinct style of design which came to be known as Narayanpet Silk sarees . It is they who brought in a lot of Maharashtrian influence seen in these saris. Narayanpet sarees have a checked surface design with embroidery and the border or pallu have intricate ethnic designs such as a temples. The borders and pallu of the Narayanpet handloom silk sarees are always given a contrasted look with small zari designs. The making of these sari is as interesting as its history; they follow a unique process where eight sarees are made in one go on a loom. Thus instead of the standard 7 yards of fabric being mounted on the loom, 56 yards of Silk are mounted on the loom at a single time! Narayanpet cotton sarees are light in weight and can be worn quite comfortably throughout the year. Because of their affordability, durability and low maintenance, these saris have gained immense popularity.

In an attempt to bring handloom sarees back in vogue, Shatika has begun a revolution; a six yard sari revolution is a humble attempt at bringing back the lost love for handloom sarees.
