SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Il
linois’ farmers and ranch ers will soon be able to be represented in the nation’s only comprehensive and impartial agriculture data for every state, county and territory.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will mail the 2022 Census of Agricul ture to millions of agri culture producers across the 50 states and Puerto Rico this fall. USDA will mail more than 100,000 census questionnaires to Illinois ag producers and potential ag producers.
The Census of Agricul ture, conducted every five years, is unique because
it is the only time farms of every type and size can report their contribution to Illinois agriculture. Every commodity from the rarest to the most common in the state is in cluded.
Information on land use, farming practices, farmer characteristics, organics, food market ing practices, machinery and equipment, precision agriculture, renewable energy, and farm-related income is also collected.
The 2022 Census of Ag riculture will be mailed in phases, starting with an invitation to respond online in November fol
lowed by paper question naires in December.
Farm operations of all sizes, urban and rural, which produced and sold, or normally would have sold, $1,000 or more of agricultural products in 2022 are included in the ag census.
“Agriculture is a large and vital part of the Illi nois economy,” said Mark Schleusener, Illinois state statistician for USDA Na tional Agricultural Sta tistics Service.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. —
Ivan Dozier, Illinois state conservationist, announced the application pe riod for the fiscal year 2023 Agricultural Conservation Easement Program — Wet land Reserve Easements.
The purpose of the WRE program is to help land owners enhance and pro tect habitat for wetland wildlife on their lands, reduce impacts from flood ing, recharge groundwater, provide outdoor recreation and increase habitat for mi gratory waterfowl.
USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Ser vice wants landowners and farmers to know that “the first application cut-off date for fiscal year 2023 has been established,” Dozier said.
“We accept applications for WRE year-round. Ap plications NRCS receives that meet program eligibil ity by Dec. 23, 2022, will be the first to be considered for funding in our 2023 pro gram.”
NRCS prioritizes ap plications based on the easement’s potential for im
proving water quality and protecting and enhancing habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife.
Applications for ACEPWRE are continuous and can be submitted at any time. For FY 2023, Illinois
NRCS has received $3.5mil lion in funding. Find more information about ACEP and other NRCS conservation pro grams in Illinois on the new IL NRCS website at www.il.nrcs.usda.gov.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. —
State Conservationist Ivan Dozier announced that the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service will offer Regional Conserva tion Partnership Program funding for the Working Lands, Water and Wildlife Partnership throughout Illinois.
Illinois NRCS has part nered with The Conserva tion Fund to help producers address resource concerns such as inadequate habitat for wildlife, water quality, and long-term protection of farmland.
Landowners can apply for assistance through RCPP to implement practices, such as silvopasture estab
lishment, tree and shrub establishment, and cover crops. Landowners also can receive a rental payment to help offset lost income while transitioning to organic farming or installing tree and berry crops.
Funding is also available for landowners interested in protecting and preserv ing their farmland through an entity held easement that will keep the land in agriculture production.
The project focus is to improve water quality, in crease wildlife habitat and preserve farmland in the following counties: Adams, Alexander, Boone, Cass, Champaign, Christian, Cook, Crawford, DeKalb,
