chool District U-46, where “All Means All,” serves families in the following 11 northwestern Chicago suburban communities: Bartlett, Elgin, Hanover Park, South Elgin, Streamwood and Wayne, and parts of Carol Stream, Hoffman Estates, St. Charles, Schaumburg, and West Chicago. The 90-square mile District stretches across three counties: Cook, DuPage, and Kane Counties. More than 36,000 preschool through 12th grade students attend School District U-46, with more than half coming from Hispanic families. About one-third of students are English Learners, which led to the development of the District’s renowned Dual Language program. The program currently serves more than 12,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Dual Language students alternate between English and Spanish while learning core concepts in science, language arts, and math. This award-winning program produces students who are bilingual, biliterate, and ready for the 21st century.

The District’s mission is “to be a great place for all students to learn, all teachers to teach, and all employees to work.” There are 57 District schools and programs in this vibrant district where students cite 98 home languages. Each of the District’s five high schools houses one specialized Magnet Academy, and U-46 has national accreditations in our Career and Technical Education programs, including automotive, precision manufacturing, and welding. All students are screened for eligibility in gifted programming; more than 1,500 students in 4th through 8th grade are currently in gifted education. School District U-46 is truly an inclusive and diverse organization that cultivates kindness, understanding, and respect. Many alumni come back to School District U-46 to raise their own families, work as teachers or other staff, or by volunteering to serve their schools and community, demonstrating that this District creates a long-lasting love for education and unparalleled social comprehension.

Since 2014, School District U-46’s leader has been Superintendent Tony Sanders who, along with a dedicated staff and engaged Board of Education, manages a budget of about $660 million. District headquarters, known as the U-46 Educational Services Center, is located in downtown Elgin. School District U-46 has an online customer service tool, “Let’s Talk,” that allows U-46 members to submit feedback, register a concern, or ask questions.
