Romantic comedy being performed in conjunction with fest PRINCETON — The Prairie Arts Council will present Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park” in the Prairie Arts Center Theater, located at 24 Park Ave. East in Princeton, during this year’s Homestead Festival. Director Larry Kelsey has cast Rachel Gorenz-Johnson as Corie Bratter, Eric Johnson as Paul Bratter, Laurie Innes as Mother, Ken Schroeder as Victor Velasco, Gary Talsky as the telephone repairman, and Josh Bush as the Lord and Taylor deliveryman.
“Barefoot in the Park” focuses on newlyweds Corie and Paul Bratter and their adventures living in a minuscule sixth floor walk-up apartment in a Greenwich Village brownstone in 1963. Stuffed-shirt Paul is a hard-working young attorney starting his practice, while spontaneous bride Corie is determined to create a romantic environment in one room with no heat, a hole in the skylight, and oddball neighbors. The play will be performed during Princeton’s annual Homestead Festival. Show times and dates are 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6, 7 and 8 and 2 p.m. Sept. 9. IN BRIEF Tug-of-war tourney Sunday
SM-PR1574871
PRINCETON — The United States Tug-of-War Association will host an invitational tournament at Park Tavern that will bring in competitors from all over the Midwest to Princeton, Sunday, Sept. 9, according to Keenan Campbell, tournament organizer. Competitive tug-of-war involves opposing teams of eight people pulling on either hemp or manila rope with the goal of moving it 4 meters. Campbell said the Princeton competition would start in round-robin style with the best two out of three pulls determining a match’s winner.
The last four teams would face off in finals. Men, women and mixed teams of various weight classes are set to participate. The competition will begin with a weigh-in at 10:30 a.m. and pulling starting at 12:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be available. Campbell said it would be the first tug-of-war tournament held in Princeton in many years. This event will also feature appearances in the Homestead parade Sept. 8 by the Team USA Tug of War Team, followed by a meet and greet with Team USA at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night at Park Tavern. Food and beverages will be available.
