Prophetstown Fire Dept. hosts Firefighter Basic Academy

Forthenext fivemonths, 14localfirefighterswill betrainingeveryTuesdayandThursdayatProphetstownFireDepartmentastheytaketheirskillsand knowledgetothenextlevel.PFDishostingtheFirefighterBasicAcademy,which consistsofmorethan 200hoursofinstructionandtrainingtopreparethe firefightersfortheirstatecertificationtest.
Thevolunteer firefighterscomefromProphetstown,Tampico,Erie,Morrison,Walnut,Lyndonand Hampton.Somehaveacoupleofyearsundertheir beltswhilesomejustacoupleofmonths.Allareworkingtowardthesamegoalofbecoming statecertified.
ThecoursesaretaughtbyAcademyDirector MichealThompsonoftheProphetstownFireDepartmentandJaredBarber.Botharecertifiedinstructors through theIllinoisFireServiceInstitute.TheacademyisacombinationofformerFirefighterIandII courses,designedtogivestudentsthe“practicaland cognitivetrainingneededtooperatesafelyandeffectivelyonthefireground.”
Aftercompletingtheacademy,thefirefighterswill bereadytotakethestatetest.“It’sthesametraining andsameeducation.It’sjustclosertohome,”said Thompson,notingtheywon’thavetoattendcourses inChampaign,wheretheIFSIislocated.Offeringthe academylocallygetsmorefirefightersinvolvedasit’s easierontheirworkandfamilylife.
Besidesthebi-weeklycourses at thefirestation, thefirefightersalsowillspend a fewSaturdayson practicals,includingasessionatConstellationinCordovathatwillcoverliveburns,searchandrescue, flashoversandtheburntower.Lastweek,thecrew learnedabouttelecommunicationsandtouredthe WhitesideCountySheriff’sOffice dispatchcenter afterabriefcourseattheMorrisonFireDepartment.
AttheirtrainingsessionTuesday,Jan.24,themen spentthefirsthourondrillstotesttheirabilitytoget fullygearedupin45secondsorless.Theseconddrill sessioncoveredtheirSCBA,orself-containedbreathingapparatus.“You’vegottolearntoputitonand putitonright,”Thompsonsaid.Barbermonitored theirtimewithastopwatchandpositivefeedback. “You’vegottomastertheairpack.It’syourlifeline,” hetoldthemen.

Foratime,fromJulyuntilsometime inDecember,OSFEMShadamedical transporthelicopterstationedatthe airportduringtheday.Apilotshortage, however,hasgroundedthatcopter.
Oncemorepilotsarehired–and WhitesideCountybuildsahangarwith akitchenandcrewlivingquarters–the airport will becomeapermanent, around-the-clockLifeFlightbase,said JenWilkes,OSFAviation’soutreach coordinator.
Becauseit’slikelythepilotshortage willberesolvedbeforethehangaris built,theRockFallsLifeFlightcrew willbestationedatIllinoisValley RegionalAirportinPeru,which alsois aLifeFlightbase.Weatherpermitting, acrewwillflytoRockFallsinthemorningandbacktoPeru intheevening, Wilkessaid.

Greatstrideshavebeenmadesincethe originalawarenessofCOVID-19.Youmay recalltheridiculousstatementsthatwewere toldinthebeginning,hunkerdownfortwo weeksandwewouldbeaheadofthecurve.On asimilarvein,wepretendedthatchildrenand youngerpeople weremoreimmunetothis condition.
Thepurposebehindthisperspectiveisto useour best sciencewithourbestnatureas wegoforwardin2023.Predictably,thevirusis notgone.Predictably,theviruswillcontinue tomutate.Predictably,whenweinvolvefear withoutscientificbasis,wewillgettheresults ofthatfear.Fearalterstheimmunesystem. Thisalteredimmunesystemsetsusupforall kindsofdiseasesfrominfectiontohypertension, heartdiseaseandeven cancer.
Thefactiswehaveimprovedouroutcomes withCOVID-19evenasthevirushasevolved. Wewoulddowelltolook atthesemeasures andtoupdateourselvesinregardtowhatwe carryforward.First,themortalityrateworldwidehasdroppedto1%,whichincludesallof theincidencesfromdayone.Themortality rateoriginallywasmuchhigher.Wewoulddo

WHEREAS, CommunityUnit School District Number 6, WhitesideCounty,Illinois (the “District”), is a duly organizedand existingschool district created under the provisions of the laws of theState of Illinois, and isnow operating under the provisions of the School Code of the State of Illinois,as amended; and
WHEREAS,the Board of Education of the District (the “Board”) has determined that itisnecessary and in the best interests of the District to alter, repair and equip the schoolbuildings and facilitiesand improvethe sitesthereof (the “Project”); and
WHEREAS, theBoard has further determined that the Project is a “school facility purpose” within the meaning of the County School Facility OccupationTax Law of the State of Illinois, as amended(the “Sales TaxLaw”); and

WHEREAS, if the Pledged Revenues are insufficient topay the Bonds, ad valorem propertytaxes upon all taxable propertyin the District without limitation asto rate or amount are authorized tobeextended to pay the principal of and interest on the Bonds:
NOW, THEREFORE, BeIt and It Is Hereby Resolved by the Board of Education of Community Unit School District Number 6, Whiteside and Madison Counties, Illinois,asfollows:
Section 1. Incorporation of Preambles. The Board hereby finds thatall of therecitals containedin the preambles to thisresolution are full,true and correct and does incorporate them into thisresolution by thisreference.
Section 2. Determination to Issue Bonds. It is necessary and in the bestinterests of the District to undertake the Project, and that for the purpose of payingthe cost of the Project, theBonds are hereby authorized to beissued and sold.
Section 3. Publication. Such additionalresolutions or proceedings shall inall instances become effective immediately without publication or posting or any further act or requirement This Resolution, togetherwith such additional resolutions or proceedings, shall constitute complete authority fortheissuance of the Bonds under applicablelaw.
Section 5. Severability. If any section, paragraph, clause or provision of thisresolutionshall be heldinvalid or unenforceable, the invalidity or unenforceability of such section, paragraph, clause or provision shall notaffect any of the other provisions of this Resolution.
