Auctions support wildlife rehab at Hillsdale facility

It’sallaboutthewildlifeatPat’s BanditsRescueandRehab,andthe Hillsdalefacilityat8601318thSt.N.is becomingahubwherebuyerscansupportrescueandrehabeffortsbybiddingonlineorinpersonatPat’sAuctionHouse.

OwnersPatandNorbDenzerheld their thirdliveauctionatthefacility onSaturday,Feb.18,withmorethan 50individualbidderslookingtoscore dealsonavarietyofitems.Volunteers alsohadbreakfast,lunchanddrinks forsalesincetheauctions canlastup tofourhours,thoughitdependsonthe numberofitemsupforbid.

TheliveauctionsarethelatestventurethecouplestartedinJanuarythis year,andthesalesarebringingin businessowners,collectors,farmers, thriftshoppersandanyonelookingfor vintageitems,collectibles,tools, householditemsandmore.Norb, a licensedauctioneer,saidthere’s a varietyofeverythingand“younever knowwhatcanbefound.”Thereisno costtobid,andseatingisprovidedin thespaciousheatedbuilding.

Pat’sBanditsRescueandRehab officiallyopenedasalicensedwildlife rescueandrehabilitationcenterin May2022.Aftersittingemptyforafew years,theformeraluminumrecycling centerneartheI-88exchangewasconvertedtoawildlifecarefacilitybythe Denzers.Pathasbeenalicensed rehabberfornearlyeightyearsbut startedhernonprofitin2021.Before acquiringtheHillsdalefacility,she caredforwildlifeatthecouple’sPort Byronfarm.

ThetwobuildingsattheHillsdale

facilityeach serve their own purpose – the smaller building houses injured or orphaned wildlife brought to the facility by concerned citizens. Pat and teamsof volunteers care for the wildlife before returningthem back to nature. She also works with local agenciesand a networkof rehabbers such as Calamity Jane’s Wildlife Refuge and Save the Wild Wildlife Rehab oftheQC.

The adjacent warehouseis Pat’s Auction House, where the Denzers are selling consignment items, estates, donations and personal acquisitions to helpfundthenonprofit’s wildlifecare. Since opening last year, they’ve had 12 online auctions and threelive auctions, with more in theworks since they still have thousands of itemsto bring to the auction floor. They’re also looking for consignments, family estates or donations to help fund the wildlife.

The online auction process requires registrationtobid on more thanhundreds of items per each weeklong auction. Theanonymousbidding process starts off with a base bid of $1 and incrementsof $2.50 for itemssuch as sports memorabilia, jewelry, furniture, farm and homestead equipment, vintage toys, art, militaryand more. There are no buyer premiums, shipping is available, and a percentage of allproceedsgotothewildlife.

Projectsbeingconsideredforthe upcomingfiscalyeararedrainage improvementsontheeastsideofthe park,sealingthewalkingpath,basketballcourtupgrades,fivelampposts replacements,moreflowersandflower boxesthroughouttown,removingand replacingcurbsalongMainStreet, repaintinglinesalongMainandButzer streetsandcompletingelectronicmonitoringsystemsfortwoliftstations.

Thereareoften significant intellectualdisabilities,whichrangefrom severetomildtomoderate.Theconditionismorecommoninmales.Males alsotendtohavemoresignificant intellectualcompromise.Femalestend tohavelessofthisandotherfeatures whentheconditionisexpressedin them.Physicalfeaturesmayinclude largeears,alongfaceandsoftskin.

Theyalsoarepronetoflatfeetandhigh arched palletinthemouthalongwith doublejointedfingersandotherhyper flexiblejoints.

Constellation announces major investment in Byron plant to increase clean energy output

Constellation,thelargestproducer ofcarbon-freeenergyintheU.S.and owneroperatoroftheByronNuclear PowerPlant,saidTuesdaythatitwill invest$800millioninnewequipment toincreasetheoutputofitsBraidwood andByronGeneratingStationsby about135megawatts,enoughtopower theequivalent of 100,000average homesaroundtheclockeveryyear.

Theadditionalalways-on,carbon-free powergeneratedwillresultintheequivalentofremoving171,000gas-powered vehiclesfromtheroadperyearorthe equivalentofadding216intermittent windturbinestothegrid,using EnvironmentalProtectionAgencydata.

Theprojectisexpectedtocreate workforthousandsofskilledunion workersduringconstructionwhile expandingeconomicactivity forsurroundingbusinesses in theplant communities.Theadditionaljobs comeon topofthe1,200permanentworkersat thetwoplants,thenewsreleasesaid.

“Ourcoachtolduswehadthisand remindedthatwehadbeeninsituations like thisbefore,”juniorforward BaylenDamhoff said.“Weplayed a toughscheduleagainstlotsofgood teams,soweknewhowtoreact.”

Eventhoughtheyhadgivenaway aneight-pointleadinthefinalminute ofthethirdquarter,therewasno panic.

Damhoffandhisteammatesproceeded toscore thenext10pointsand heldoffonemorelatechargefrom Eastlandbeforepullingouta48-38win overtheCougarsandearningaspotin Saturday’sregionaltitlegame.
