ROLAND “ROLLIE” J. VANZUIDEN, 90, of Morrison, IL, passed away peacefully at Resthave Home in Morrison on October 9, 2021, surrounded by family.
Funeral services for Roland VanZuiden will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Ken Renkes officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. Memorials have been established to Resthave Home and Windsor Manor.
Rollie, a twin to brother Jay, was born April 2, 1931, in Newton Township to Henry and Maggie (VanOosten) VanZuiden. Rollie was educated at the Garden Plain School but finished and graduated from 8th grade in Mt. Carroll. He married Ramona M. Holesinger on October 26, 1951, in Morrison. They lived in the Mt. Carroll area and then moved to Morrison. Rollie had multiple jobs over his lifetime but his true passion was driving truck. He was a member of the Morrison Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed his family, taking many trips with his wife, playing cards with friends, visiting with farmers, breakfast at KJ’s with the guys and water balloon fights at the yearly family gathering on the 4th of July.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona; two daughters, Cheryl (Hank) Batterink of Wyoming, Ontario, Canada and Robin (Jeff) Brands of Morrison; two sons, Henry (Deb) VanZuiden of Sun City West, AZ and Keith (Jen) VanZuiden of Maricopa, AZ; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Jay VanZuiden of Mesa, AZ.

MARLYN FABER, 86, of Fulton, IL, died Friday, October 15, 2021, at Prairie Hills in Clinton, IA. A private family service will be held with Rev. Chuck Huckaby officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL. Memorials have been established to F.A.C.E. (Fulton Association for Community Enrichment) and Schmaling Public Library.
Marlyn was born November 3, 1934, in Clinton, IA, to John J. and Josephine (Damhoff) Faber. He was educated in Thomson grade schools and was a graduate of Thomson High School. He served in the Army National Guard. Marlyn married Mary Jane Zuidema on June 5, 1957, in Fulton. He was employed as an Executive Vice President at Fulton State Bank for 32 years. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Fulton. He served on the Central Bank Board of Directors, Fulton Kiwanis Club and the Schmaling Public Library Board. He helped with delivering Meals on Wheels, Revolving Loan Committee and the Regional School Board. Marlyn was a trustee of the Foundation of D.S. Flikkema. He was a charter member of the Fulton Country Club. Marlyn cherished time spent with his friends, great grandchildren and playing golf.
Marlyn is survived by his wife, Mary; one daughter, Cheryl (Tim Graves) Piercy of Clinton; one son, Randal (Sue) Faber of Rochelle, IL; four grandchildren, Jessica (Matthew) Birdsley, Sarah (Andrew) Whiting, Emily (Nathan) Shepard and Aaron (Stephanie) Piercy; seven great grandchildren, Braden, Madison, Brynlee, Austin, Brooklyn, Molly and Logan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
RUTH O. KILLINGER
Ruth Killinger died peacefully on Friday night, October 15, 2021 at Ridgecrest Village at age 91. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron, with visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bettendorf, or to Cancer Research.
Ruth graduated from Rutgers University then married Howard Killinger. In 1968, she earned her Master’s degree in Social Work at University of Iowa. She worked at the East Moline State Hospital, Bethany Home, and then became the Quad Cities’ first full time school social worker. She was employed by Silvis school district, but traveled to many rural schools like Riverdale in Port Byron, Barstow and Carbon Cliff to counsel kids there. In 1990, she received the Social Worker of the Year award from the National Association of Social Workers’ QC Chapter.
Ruth retired 30 years ago, then continued to worked part time as the Clerk for the city of Port Byron. Since retirement, Ruth has enjoyed traveling to 39 countries, and having many fun adventures with her grandkids.
Ruth leaves behind 4 children (Steve, Dave, Lisa and Laura), 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and “Muz” and two siblings Jack and Mary. She has two more living siblings Jane and Dave.
Ruth loved to ride roller coasters and could beat almost anyone at Scrabble. She was a bright, funny, energetic woman. She will be remembered fondly by so many people.

Ann’s Helping Hands Fall Festival
Ann’s Helping Hands in Port Byron will have a Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 24 from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 20828 Friedens Road, Port Byron. The event is planned for the outdoors but will be moved inside if inclement weather.
Activities include pumpkin painting and decorating, with pumpkins donated by McGinnis Farms of Thomson, IL. Hot dogs, snacks, cocoa, and more will be available for a donation. Purchase raffle tickets for numerous prizes, plus get a free ticket if you come dressed in costume.

Project Graduation RHS wreath orders open
Ordering for the annual designer Christmas wreath sale is underway at Riverdale, with all funds to support the Project Graduation event for the Class of 2022.
Order fresh evergreen wreaths for the holidays now through Nov. 23. The 18″ diameter wreaths feature a beautiful bow and pine cones, at a cost of $25 each. Pick-up days will be Monday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 7 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Riverdale High School football concession stand.

Health depar tment gets nearly $645,000 in federal COV ID-19 relief funds

T h e W h i t e s i d e C o u n t y H e a l th Department was awarded $644,936 from a pool of $35 million in federal American Rescue Plan money divvied up between 42 community health centers in Illinois.
The money is earmarked for agencies “to modernize their health care infrastructure and enhance their work to address health disparities in underserved communities,” members of Illinois’ congressional delegation said in a news release announcing the award.
The county runs a federally funded community health clinic at 1300 W. Second St. in Rock Falls.
“CHCs will use this funding for COVID-19-related capital needs, constructing new facilities, renovating and expanding existing facilities to enhance response to pandemics and purchasing new state-of-the-art equipment, including telehealth technology, mobile medical vans and freezers to store vaccines,” delegation members said in the release.
The American Rescue Plan Act, passed in March, provides $1.9 trillion to help speed recovery from the health and economic effects of the pandemic.
