Theprogramwillbeginwiththehistory ofFulton’sbustling,commercialbusinesses onitsnaturallevee(1850-1900s).Thevolumeofbusinessactivitythattransactedin thislocationisastonishing betweenthe bargeandrailroadtransactions.
Inthenextperiodofactivity(1900-1950s), thecitizensofFultonchosetousetheriverfrontas arecreationalsiteforcommunity activitiesandevents.Itwasnamed“RiversidePark”andwasthesettingforalarge CentennialCelebrationin1935. Atourist campsitewasdevelopedasanattractionto FultonandtheMississippiRiverwhen thousandsofpeopleeveryyearweretravelingtheLincolnHighway,whichopenedin 1913.Lock& Dam13waserectedbytheCCC (CivilianConservationCorps) andopened in1939.
Atouristcampsite wasdevelopedasanattractiontoFultonand theMississippi Riverwhenthousands of people everyyear were travelingthe LincolnHighway,which openedin1913.
From1950tocurrent,thehistoricfloodof 1965created aneedfor adike.ThisdevelopmentalsocreatedtheDikeBeautification Committee,whichbroughtsweeping changes to ourcity’sriverfront.The‘de Immigrantwindmillopenedin2000asa majortouristattraction.Inadditionto propertyprotection, thepavedwalkway atopthedikeprovided arecreationaland exerciselocation withanawesomeviewof theriverandwildlife.TheresidentsofFultonhavedeveloped amorepersonalrelationshipwiththe“MISI-ZIIBI”River;which means“FatherofRivers”namedbythe nativeAmericanIndianswhoinhabited thisareabefore1835.

Shortlyafter 11p.m.Sept.24inrural RockFalls,DamienK.Martin,32,of Prophetstown;AntonioL.Caudillo,27,of RockFalls;andZacharyN.McCloud,29, ofSterling,diedin asingle-vehiclecrash afterlosingcontrolanddrivingintoa ditchonProphetstownRoadnearGaulrappRoad,causingthecartorollseveral times,accordingtotheWhitesideCounty Sheriff’sDepartment.
Martin’swife,Liz,hasbeena beauticianforsevenyearsinProphetstownand hasfourchildren.
“Idon’tknowwhatI’m goingtodo,” shesaid.
DianaVerhulst,pastorinProphetstownandtheFranklinGroveChurchof theBrethren,helpedorganize afundraiseraroundtownandonlinetohelpthe familywithexpenses.
“Therearemounting debtsfromthe burial.Theircarwasbrandnewandwas
totaledin the crash.Insurancecovered the existing carloan, but there is no money for her to buy a replacement vehicle,” Verhulst said. “As you can imagine, there are other expenses related to the auto accident as well. Now that there is only one household income,Lizneeds help.”
So far, they’ve raised $4,645, according totheGoFundMe.

MORRISON–Withall60precincts reporting, WhitesideCountyvoters soundlydefeatedaproposed1%sales taxhiketosupport911services.
Theunofficialvotewas15,114no votesto4,733yes,or76.15%againstthe referendum,23.85%forit.Election resultswillbecertifiedwithintwo weeks,CountyClerkDanaNelsonsaid Nov.9.
Proponentsofthemeasuresaidthe taxwasneededtohelppaytherising costsofWhitesideCounty’stwodispatchcentersandeventuallybuild a consolidatedcenterthatwillsavemillionsofdollarsdowntheroad.
Rightnow,morethanhalfofthe $2.2millionittakestooperatethetwo centerseachyear–about$1.2million –isbeingshoulderedbyjustSterling andRockFalls,andthesystemisrunningabout$500,000inthered,money thatthecountyismakingup.
Theproposedsalestaxwouldhave takentheburden offthecountyand theTwinCities,raisinganestimated $4millionayearcountywidethrough thesaleofretailitems,includingfuel,
restaurantmealsandpreparedfood itemsoftenboughtbyvisitorstothe county–thusadding$1toevery$100 spent.
Itwouldnotbechargedonpurchasesofgroceries,drugs(including
over-the-countermedicationsand vitamins),cars,trucks,all-terrain vehicles,boatsandrecreationalvehicles,mobilehomes,farmequipment andparts,andfarminputs.
Officialsplannedtousetherevenue
raisedtoalleviatetherisingcostsof operatingandmaintainingtheexistingcenters–oneatthesheriff’s departmentinMorrisonandtheother attheSterlingPoliceDepartment andthecostofsalaries,benefitsand trainingforabouttwodozendispatchers.
Therestofthemoneywastobe usedtobuildoneunifieddispatchcenter,whichproponentssaidwouldcut costsbyreducingoverheadand improveoperationsandcooperation amongemergencyagencies.A2011 studyestimatedcostsavingscould amountto$14millionover10years.
Countyofficialshavesaidthatifthe referendumdidn’tpass,itcouldmean thecostswillbepassedontotowns andagencies atthewestendofthe county–essentially,thoseoutsideof SterlingandRockFalls –thatarenot currentlycontributingequallytothe 911budget.
Thisisthesecondtimesuchameasurehasfailed.
Thecountysoughttopassapublic safetytaxreferendum;ameasurecallingfora0.5%increasewasontheballotinNovember2020butwasdefeated, 19,835to7,103.

Thiswasthefirsttimean Honor Flightcoincidedwithanelectionday. “We’revotingtodaybecauseofthese guys,”saidretiredArmyLt.Col.StephenGarrington,commanderof HonorFlightoftheQuadCities55. He’sbeeninvolvedwitheverylocal HonorFlightsincethechapterstarted in2008.
Thetripstartedwithasend-offceremonyandbreakfastatthe Quad CitiesInternationalAirportbeforeboardingSunCountryAirlines,whilethe lunareclipsewasvisible,fora90-minuteflight.TheveteransfromWhiteside,Lee,RockIsland,Carroll,Henry andClintoncountieswereaccompaniedby65guardians,acrewofvolunteersandthreeAmericanflagsofveteranswhohadpassed.

Ratheritissomethingthatmost ancientculturesappliednaturallyto assistthebodyinmany natural functions.Walking andbreathingare greatlyassistedbyproperposture. Theseconceptshavebeenemphasized inyogamovements forthousandsof years.Taichiandrelated disciplines alsoemphasizethesefundamental concepts.
Morethan100yearsago,amanby thelastnameofAlexanderdeveloped techniquestohelphisownwell-being thatheeventuallytaughttoothers. Theseconceptshavebecomeawhole disciplineorapproachtobettermovementofthebody.Thebasicconceptof theAlexandertechniqueistobenatural.Indeed,ifweobserveanimalssuch ascatsandmanyotherspecies,wewill seemovementsasnaturedesigned. Yethumansweredesignedfortheseas well.
Indeed,youngchildrenoftenmove freelybeforetheydevelopbad habits orcompensationsfrominjuriesorotherwise.Therefore,theAlexandertechniquebeginswithobservation, althoughitisaself-observationand

LenaWinslow(12-0)advancesto meetForrestoninthe1Asemifinals.It willbethethirdtimethetwoprograms havemetinthesemifinalssince2017.
“Theyarejustsogood,sovery good,”FultoncoachPatrickLower said.“Youhavetoplayperfectandyou havetorelyonthemtomakeacouple mistakes.Ithinktheymadeonemistakeinthefirsthalfandwedidn’tcapitalizeonit.
