Located on Hillside Road between Prairie Center and Garden Plain roads, this nearly 100-year-old farmhouse has been lovingly preserved and added on to over the years. Built in 1923, this farm was owned and occupied by the Shirk family before being sold to the Elston Knox family. In 1969, Loren’s parents, Whitey and Ruth Tenboer, purchased the farm and moved into the farmhouse. Whitey
Jim and Anne Johnson will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Nov. 24. Jim and Anne (Cox) were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rapids City on Thursday, Nov. 24, 1951. They farmed for many years. Jim retired
and Ruth moved to town in 1988, and Loren and Connie moved into the family farm. Over the years, additions have been added, including a large great room in 2003 with vaulted ceilings and a huge window facing sunsets. A beautiful, modern kitchen was installed in 2008. The home will showcase collections of family members’ Christmas decorations and ornaments held dear over the years, including a teddy bear, the very first Christmas gift Connie’s mother
from John Deere in 1994 after 30 years. Anne worked at General Electric and volunteered at King’s Kloset. They are members of the Erie United Methodist Church. They are the parents of Ruth (Jim) Melton, Roger (Kris) Johnson, Diane

Those in attendance will revel in the decorated large great room with beautiful fireplace and a 12-foot Christmas tree, the kitchen, large dining room, sitting area and enclosed porch. This home will be worth the short 10-minute drive outside of Morrison. Loren will be showcasing his John Deere memorabilia, including a tractor, grain cart and antique gas pump. The homes of Dale Belt and Lori Neighbour, Jean Decker and Rich and Lynelle Criss also will be on the tour. The MCH Foundation’s Holiday Tour of Homes, “The Halls Be Decked!”, introduces the third of four homes that will be decorated and open on Dec. 2-4. Thursday night tickets allow you to stroll through homes without the crowds, then go to the Morrison Hospital Conference room (Kaffee Haus) and enjoy festive meat and cheese trays, plus delectable desserts such as chocolate dipped strawberries and others. In addition, Thursday night guests will get a commemorative Christmas ornament. Thursday hours are 4 to 8 p.m. The Kaffee Haus will be open until 9 p.m. Tickets for the exclusive event are a tax-deductible donation of $100 to the MCH Foundation. Friday and Saturday tickets at $12.50 each allow guests to tour homes from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and then return to the Morrison Hospital Conference room (Kaffee Haus) for Christmas cookies and coffee, hot chocolate and hot apple cider.
