Oregon tournament Pecatonica 73, Morrison 50: The Mus-
tangs were outscored 27-10 in the third quarter in their season opener at the Oregon tournament. Trey Strating’s 19 points paced Morrison. Alex Anderson added 12 points, and Andre McQueen scored 10. Fulton 49, Sherrard 30: The Steamers outscored the Tigers 29-13 in the second half to open their season with a win at the Orion tournament. Baylen Damhoff’s 17 points paced Fulton. Ian Wiebenga added eight points, Ethan Price scored seven, and Brock Mason chipped in six.
Fulton 59, Erie-Prophetstown 42:
Baylen Damhoff poured in 25 points to lead the Steamers to victory at the 10 & 32 Tip-Off Classic. Damhoff hit three 3-pointers among his 10 baskets for Fulton (2-0), which took control with a 20-4 scoring edge in the second quarter. Ethan Price scored nine points, and Patrick Lower and Drew Dykstra finished with five apiece. Caleb Naftzger’s nine points paced the Panthers. Connor Sibley added eight.
Hinckley-Big Rock 64, Morrison 49:
The Mustangs were outscored 22-10 in the second quarter of a ninth-place consolation bracket game in Oregon.
Alex Anderson finished with 15 points, Danny Mouw scored 12, and Mason Dykstra added eight for Morrison.
Orion tournament Fulton 49, Orion 28: The Steamers
defeated the host Chargers to win the title at the 10 & 32 Tip-Off Classic. Baylen Damhoff poured in 20 points, and Jacob Jones finished with 15 for Fulton (4-0), which led 9-2 after one quarter, 20-12 at halftime, and 36-18 through three periods. Damhoff was an all-tournament selection.
Erie-Prophetstown 51, Abingdon-Avon 36: The Panthers cruised in their Orion
tournament finale, leading 15-6 after the opening quarter and 26-10 by halftime. Austin Cole and Noah Wiseley each scored 10 points, with Kolby Franks and Caleb Naftzger adding nine points apiece for E-P. All-tournament pick Connor Sibley hit two 3-pointers for six points.
Girls Basketball
Warren tournament Morrison 53, East Dubuque 23: The Fil-
lies jumped out to a 14-4 lead after one quarter, then put away a win at the Warren tournament with a 20-4 scoring edge in the third period. Camryn Veltrop had 23 points, nine
rebounds and three blocks to lead Morrison. Shelby Veltrop added 14 points, four assists, two steals and two blocks. Jordan Eads hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points, four rebounds and two steals. Kalli Fisher had three points, five steals and three assists, and Kendra Fisher chipped in four assists and three steals. Morrison 60, Warren 28: The Fillies finished off a 5-0 run through the Warren tournament by beating the hosts to take the title. Camryn Veltrop had 24 points, six rebounds, four assists and four blocks for Morrison. Shelby Veltrop added 19 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks. Jordan Eads had seven points and three steals, and Kendra Fisher dished six assists. The Fillies led 15-6 after one quarter, 32-9 at halftime and 56-25 through three periods.
Oregon tournament Erie-Prophetstown 44, AFC 27: The
Panthers topped the Raiders in the seventh-place game, taking a 17-4 lead after one quarter and never looking back. Kennedy Buck’s 15 points paced E-P. Hayley Wuebben scored 14 points. Amboy 49, Erie-Prophetsown 19: The Clippers cruised past the Panthers in a
fifth-place consolation semifinal, taking control with a 17-1 scoring edge in the second quarter. Sydney Schwartz hit a pair o f 3-pointers for six points, and Kennedy Buck added five points in a balanced effort by E-P.
Wrestling
Sterling 36, Erie-Prophetstown 33: The Golden Warriors won five contested matches and a forfeit in a seven-bout stretch to build a lead, then held off the Panthers in a season-opening dual in Erie. With E-P leading 9-6 after Sophia Wheeler’s 6-1 decision at 106 pounds and a forfeit from each team, Karson Strohmayer (126 pounds) won a 7-2 decision, Dylan Ottens (132) won by pin in 5:10 and Austin Clemens (138) won a 7-3 decision. After E-P’s Jase Grunder got a pin in 1:19 at 145, Sterling received a forfeit at 152, then Tommy Tate notched a 37-second pin at 160. Noah Davis won by pin in 1:10 at 170 to give the Warriors a 36-15 lead. The Panthers won the final four bouts, but couldn’t score enough points to come back. Luke Otten (182) and Nick Ballard (220) both recorded pins, and Andrew Bomleny (195) and Elijah Friedrichsen (285) both won decisions.
