OBITUARIES Born: August 4, 1945; Des Moines, Iowa Died: June 6, 2021; Davenport, Iowa CORDOVA - James Ray Fidlar, 75, of Cordova, Illinois, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Manor Care in Davenport, Iowa. Graveside services were Friday, June 11th at the Cordova Cemetery. Gibson-Bode Funeral Home in Port Byron handled arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Cordova American Legion, or the Vietnam Veterans of America. Jim was born on August 4th, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Violet (Slater) Fidlar. He married Lynn Smalley on August 18, 1996 in Cordova, Illinois. After his schooling, Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in combat during the Vietnam War, and then continued his military career as a prison warden at Camp Lejeune Military Base in Jacksonville, North Carolina. After returning home from the military, Jim worked for Prudential in Moline as an insurance agent and financial advisor for about 10 years. He then went to work as a radiation tech for Exelon Nuclear Power Plant, where he retired in 2005. Jim was a member of the Doric Masonic Lodge 319 in Moline, the Cordova American Legion Post #1033, the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Disabled Veterans of America. He enjoyed fishing and travel to many parts of the country. He was proud to have organized the Cordova Sesquicentennial parade. Jim was a proud Papa who loved following his grandkids and cheering them on during their sporting events. Jim is survived by his wife Lynn of Cordova, IL; daughter, Erin (Jon) Ketelsen of Port Byron, IL(daughter of Janet Duncan Fidlar); son, Mahlon “Mac” (Sarah) Lewis of

Malbar, FL; brother, David Fidlar of Moline, IL; sisters, Verna Mae Downey, of Cordova, IL, and Joanne Wiklund, of Port Byron, IL; sister-in-law, Patsy Fidlar, of Cordova, IL; and grandchildren, Bryce and Madalyn Ketelsen, and Emily, Amy and William Lewis. ARLENE L. HAZLETT

Born: February 5, 1929; Sterling Died: June 8, 2021; Peoria GALESBURG - Mrs. Arlene L. Hazlett, 92, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 3:38 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria, Illinois. She was born February 5, 1929 in Sterling, Illinois to Herman A. and Laura B. (Schumacher) Stralow. She married Larry L. Hazlett June 24, 1951 in Morrison, Illinois. He preceded her in death January 25, 2000. Surviving is a son, Eric L. (and Mary) Hazlett of Galesburg; a daughter, Juanita L. Knussman of Pekin, Illinois; brother-in-law, Jerry Vilardi of Port St. Lucie, Florida; five grandsons, David (and Cassidy), Matthew (and Kelsey), Jonathan (and Haley), and Lucas and Andrew; two stepgranddaughters, Nikki (and J.D.) and Lindsay and a great-granddaughter, Vivianne. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Michael; and a sister, Donna Vilardi. Arlene graduated from Morrison High School in 1946. She received her nursing degree from Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She was a registered nurse and private duty nurse for many years. She also took pride in being a homemaker.

She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg and former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ft. Pierce, Florida. She sang in the choir in both churches. She was a member of the Moline Public Nurses Alumni, Fifth District Nurses Association, Rock Island Junior Women’s Club, Rio Women’s Club and Knox County Home Extension Association. She was also a former member of the Galesburg Artist Guild and a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Ladies Aide/ LWML. She was a Reading Buddy with Nielson School in Galesburg. She was truly a special lady who will be missed by all that knew her. The funeral was Friday, June 11, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg. Burial was at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice. CRAIG V. JOHNSON

Born: November 28, 1929; Prophetstown Died: June 10, 2021; Prophetstown PROPHETSTOWN, Illinois - Craig V. Johnson, 91, of Prophetstown, IL, died Thursday, June 10, 2021 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at the Prophetstown United Methodist Church, with Rev. Joey Garcea officiating. There will be no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. The Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown is assisting the family with arrangements.

A memorial has been established. Craig was born November 28, 1929 in Prophetstown, IL to Valfred and Irma (Morrill) Johnson. He graduated from Prophetstown High School. On October 16, 1954 he married Geraldine “Gerry” M. McDonald in Oak Park, IL. She died on April 15, 2012. Craig owned and operated the Johnson Roller Mill in Lyndon for 16 years. He was also a rural mail carrier for 15 years. At various times during his working career, Craig provided carpentry and ag construction services, and he also operated a retail gun shop. He was a longtime member of the Congregational Church of Prophetstown. Craig was an avid antique firearm collector, was a founder of the Sauk Trail Gun Collectors and The Prairie State Longrifle Show and a member of the Kentucky Rifle Association. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears, and playing golf in his free time. Craig and his wife also enjoyed antiquing. He loved the game of bridge, playing with friends some of whom were from high school - well into his 80s. Survivors include one daughter, Laura (Keith) Hechtel of Angola, NY; two sons, Dan (Janine) Johnson of Downers Grove, IL and Eric (Lynn) Johnson of Davenport, IA; and six grandchildren, Keith & Katy Hechtel, Luke and Martin Johnson, Aaron and Ethan Johnson.
