HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Vera Louise Stutzke to celebrate 99th bir thday
Vera Louis Stutzke, daughter of Henry and Freda Mennenga, was born July 30, 1922, on a farm east of Morrison. She a t t e n d e d M c E l r a t h G r a d e S c h o o l i n M o u n t P l e a s a nt Township, two miles north of Round Grove. She was a memb e r o f t h e M o r r i s o n H i g h School band, where she played saxophone and E-flat alto clarinet. She graduated with the Class of 1940.
Vera was married to Edwin “Bud” Stutzke for 57 years, and they farmed between Sterling a n d M o r r i s o n . H e r f a m i l y i n c l u d e s h e r t w o c h i l d r e n , Cheryl Stutzke and Kurt (Elisa) Stutzke; grandchildren Jason Stutzke and Jennifer Stutzke (Jared Haenni); great-grandchildren Jaren, Haele and Kobe; and step-great-grandchildren Aubri, Brian and Donny.
After working 23 years at GE in Morrison, she has traveled extensively with her family throughout the U.S., Canada, France and England. Her favorite national parks include the Grand Canyon, Zion and Trona Pinnacles. Her favorite destinations have been Paris, Bury St. Edmunds, London, Pie Town, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and visiting her 97-year-old sister, Marian Swanson, in San Jose.
When she isn’t traveling, she enjoys gardening, watching “Days of Our Lives,” taking care of her cats, riding her golf cart around the farm, napping and spending time with her family and friends.

Dr. Abdul Foad selected for A SES membership
Dr. Abdul Foad, orthopaedic surgeon at Morrison Community Hospital, has been selected as a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons.
The elite society, which has only 1,100 members, is made up of the top national and international orthopaedic surgeons who specialize in shoulder and elbow surgeries. Membership is by invitation only. Criteria for members h i p i n c l u d e s b e i n g c o n s i d e r e d a regional expert in the field of shoulder surgery and continuation of peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on shoulder/elbow topics based on work in the clinical practice location.
F o a d i s a b o a r d - c e r t i f i e d orthopedic surgeon a n d f e l l o w s h i p t r a i n e d i n s p o r t s m e d i c i n e a n d a r t h r o s c o p y . H e received his medic a l d e g r e e f r o m Penn State University and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He completed his fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy from one of the premier sports medicine fellowship programs in the world at Ulleval Hospital and the International Olympic Trauma and Research Center in Oslo, Norway, where he had the opportunity to work on Olympic and professional athletes.
Despite his busy schedule and practice, he continues to teach residents, medical students and physician-assistant students in a private practice setting. He sits on the Iowa Orthopaedic Research Foundation Board at the University of Iowa, where he mentors residents and medical students in Iowa who are interested in clinical research in orthopaedic sports medicine. He was president of the Iowa Orthopaedic Society in 2015. He is an active member in good standing and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Foad practices at Morrison Community Hospital in Morrison and Terrace Ridge Medical in Davenport, Iowa. His policy is to see injured patients in a timely fashion, usually the next day, if possible. His motto is “Service with science.” Office appointments can be made by calling 815-772-5505.

Stonecrof t Clinton Women’s Connection to meet Aug. 11 at Community Reformed Church
Stonecroft Clinton Women’s Connection will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Community Reformed Church, 747 N. 12th St., Clinton, Iowa.
There will be brunch, followed by music and an inspirational nondenominational speaker. Cost to attend is $10.
Music will be provided by Cheryl Green and Sue Pessman of Fulton.
The speaker, Debbie Sollis of Rock Island, will share the secret of “The Best Gift Ever.” Sollis accepted God as a teenager but didn’t really get to know Him.
All women are invited to attend.
Reservations are due by Friday, Aug. 6.

First Presbyterian Church drive-up meal set for July 29
First Presbyterian Church of Morrison is dedicating its next free community drive-up meal to benefit the Morrison Fire Department. All donations will go directly to the fire department.
The July 29 menu will include grilled 1/4-pound hot dogs, pasta salad, chips and a cookie. The meal will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. or until the food runs out. Outdoor dining is available, weather permitting, or just drive up to the corner of Knox and Genesee streets.
