Panthers boys take 5th at Rocket Run; g irls place 3rd
Erie-Prophetstown took fifth place with 115 points at the Rocket Run at Centennial Park in Rock Falls to open the cross country season.
Erie-Prophetstown’s Jacob Gibson took seventh in 17:54, having to make an unexpected adjustment right from the start.
“I lost a shoe. One of my buddies actually stepped on it, but that’s OK,” he said. “I took the other shoe off and gave it to my coach around the halfmile mark and just kept going through. By the time we got to the woods, I was just passing left and right and felt good. Overall, I just kept pushing through the race.”
He ended up running most of the race in just socks.
“It definitely was a traction thing going up the hills and the finish, but overall it didn’t feel that bad,” he said. “It was a little rocky in some areas, but you have adrenaline going.”
The Panthers’ Charlie Link was 24th and Aiden Jepson finished 25th.
Morrison did not field a full team. The Mustangs had a 15th-place finish from Brady Wolf in 18:32.
