Welcome to the Annual Geneva Arts Fair We are excited to be able to feature talented artisans from all over the country. Visitors can purchase original works of art and have the unique opportunity to meet exhibiting artists, learn the sources of their inspirations and ask questions about techniques. We recommend asking the artist for a business card. Thanks to the support of our generous sponsors, visitors can enjoy stunning displays of artistry for free. The Geneva Chamber of Commerce is proud to host this award-winning Arts Fair on July 23+24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. On Saturday, “Awards of Excellence” will be presented to our most outstanding 2-D and 3-D artists. Once again, the expertise and products of Plandscape Inc. will transform the intersection of South Third and Franklin streets into a comforting, breathtaking display of foliage and color. Stop by the Information Garden’s Booth with your questions about the Arts Fair, upcoming festivals or visiting Geneva. Purchase a bottle of water to take with you while perusing the artists’ booths.

ONLY IN GENEVA

If you’ve never visited Geneva, now is your chance to see a picture-postcard town, overflowing with comfort and charm on a beautiful summer day. Tucked away amidst the gorgeous Fox River Valley, downtown Geneva boasts more than 100 specialty shops located in historic storefronts and beautiful Victorian-style homes.

Take some time to visit local merchants and discover unique gifts. During the show, dine at one of Geneva’s fine downtown eateries along State and Third streets, Dodson Place and other nearby locations. There’s so much to see, arts fair-goers might want to extend their stay by planning a weekend get-away. After a day of art, shopping and dining, spend the night in gracious accommodations. For more information on planning a weekend trip, visit our website at www.genevachamber.com or call 630.232.6060. The Arts Fair is supported by various community members. We thank all our artists, volunteers, businesses, sponsors and the City of Geneva who help make this event a success. If you enjoy the Geneva Arts Fair, be sure to mark your calendar for our next event, Festival of the Vine, September 9-11 in our new location. Just across the street from its previous spot. Join us at S. Fourth & James streets in downtown Geneva. We will celebrate the autumn harvest with food and wine, a craft show, musical entertainment and special merchant events throughout town. Enjoy your visit to beautiful Geneva. Paula Schmidt – President Geneva Chamber of Commerce

On the cover - Ryan Tuck

Ryan Tuck grew up in Brookfield, Wisconsin and has spent the vast majority of his life in the Midwest, calling Minneapolis, Madison and now Milwaukee home. He started off going to the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, but quickly became disillusioned with the corporate world. During college he would spend late nights in the dark alleys and side streets of the Twin Cities creating graffiti climbing up onto billboards and trespassing to make urban art. When studying in New Zealand at Otago he fell in love with landscape photography and that was the spark that got him interested in fine art. He rapidly progressed from digital to film and then into archival printing processes. After years of photography he wanted something new and more free then the hyper realistic confines of picture making. Remembering back to his days doing graffiti and working with his hands to make art he started off into oil paints and quickly delved into a wide array mixed media materials.

His current abstract work has been focused on the relationship of chaos and order. What causes something to look like a mess and what doesn’t? Why do you follow the rules or why don’t you? Are there any rules at all and if so who makes them and why? Through his abstract art he attempts to explore these and many more questions. He uses a variety of materials found from hardware stores, craft stores, junk yards, and pretty much anywhere he can find

something interesting and unique that will add a new texture or a feel to his work.

In his Urbanites series he explores the themes of indifference, isolation and disease. As you can see contorted humanoid shapes congealing. This series is all the more timely given COVID-19 and the growing societal polarization fanned by fear and nourished by lies. He contrasts this dark theme with vibrant color pallets. In producing the work he alternates between drawing and painting. He first uses paint brushes, knives, acrylic markers, his hands, incorporates mono printing and layering to create a unique texture. The base is built up of charcoal, acrylic paint, hard pastel and oil pastel that is then trapped in hard gel that I apply using a sponge. This is to help to create a better base for the oil pigment sticks, which he uses to finish the pieces.

Savor the flavor of Geneva during Festival of the Vine For 43 years, Geneva has been celebrating the flavors of fall with Festival of the Vine. The centerpiece of this festival revolves around food in our Flavor Fare tent. The event runs September 9-11. See website below for exact times. In 2022 this award-winning event is moving across the street to South Fourth and James streets. Everything you have come to expect and enjoy will all be in this NEW location. Geneva has a great number of fine restaurants showcased at the Flavor Fare along with glasses of unique wine and beer to accompany your food, for purchase. The restaurants set up under one huge tent offering three of their favorite signature items. Visitors purchase tickets and buy a “taste” at one of the featured stalls in the tent. Versatile local and Chicago-land musical and dance entertainers will also be featured on the stage.

Other events during the Festival include arts and crafts fair, merchant wine events and seminars, trolley and horse drawn carriage rides plus great shopping in Geneva’s historic downtown. We invite you to fall into fun at Geneva Chamber of Commerce’s Festival of the Vine.

Check back in mid-August for a complete schedule of events, hours, and a brochure at https://www. genevachamber.com/festivals-events/festival-of-the-vine/ or call 630.232.6060.
