= Welcome to Swedish Days! =

There’s warmth in the air, which means the 70th Swedish Days is right around the corner. Swedish Days, supported by Northwestern Medicine, is considered the “Granddaddy of Illinois Festivals,” and is a large part of Geneva’s great traditions. The Geneva Chamber of Commerce has been working hard since the beginning of the year to organize, prepare and shape this grand celebration. We are bringing back some traditions and beginning some new ones. Our great volunteers, diverse parade participants and scrumptious food vendors all return, year after year, to create this festival of fun. The festival will begin on Tuesday, June 18, but Tuesday will look a little different this year. We are bringing back the Merchant’s Moonlight Madness Sales. We hope to have all our downtown and Geneva Commons merchants involved in this sidewalk sale, extending to the evening hours, until 9 pm. The carnival will be open, the Craft Brew tent will be serving Penrose and Stockholm’s craft brews, our not-for-profits will begin food sales and the Geneva History Museum shows you what makes Geneva special with their historic tours. We want this night to be about playing, eating and shopping in Geneva. Entertainment begins on Wednesday with our award winning Geneva Park District taking over the evening, including the Geneva’s Got Talent semi-finals. Central Stage will open with quality bands on Thursday and continue through Saturday. Every day has something for the kids. Face painting, Creation Station, Kids’ Day and our new Discovery Tent. Visit genevachamber.com for all the fun information. Another exciting addition is our Swedish Days Car Show

starting at 5 pm on S. Third Street. Come down and enjoy some vintage cars for big kids and firetrucks for little ones. Great music and local food completes this event. You can’t leave Swedish Days without first visiting Sweden Väst, our very own Swedish village with food, entertainment and games, all Swedish style for you, only on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday, of course, is our renowned Swedish Days Parade, a tradition for all families in the area. We are pleased to bring back an old tradition, the Arts and Crafts Show, located on 2nd St. and James St. We’ve heard for years that we needed to bring it back, so upon your requests; we will be trying it again. It’s only on Friday and Saturday so make sure to stop by early to get that best one of a kind item. Our sponsors are a huge part of making this all happen, be certain to visit their booths on James Street and businesses in the tri-cities. Quality, not quantity, is our theme this year. We hope that you enjoy the changes and cherish the traditions. Thank you to everyone who has helped with Swedish Days. Whether 2019 is your first time or you’ve done it for 70 years. You are much appreciated. We look forward to your visit to Geneva. Bring your family, bring your friends. Come early, stay late. But please, keep the rain at home! The annual parade is an eye and ear opening experience with marching bands, colorful floats, prancing horses, and extraordinary entertainers. Marshaled by many volunteers and coordinated by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, the parade steps off at 1 p.m., Sunday, June 23, and winds through downtown Geneva. The parade path starts from the high school area at Center Street and Anderson Boulevard and continues south on Anderson turning east onto State Street. In the center of town the march will continue south on Third Street and disband at the Metra train station. This community parade is everything you want a parade to be. Clowns, floats, classic cars, music, performers and more. The Proviso West Roaring Thunder Marching Band returns along with the traditional kilts and bagpipes of the Band of the Blackwatch. Local favorites, the Crystal Lake Strikers performance will amaze you. In addition, the ever popular South Shore Drill Team will add to the elation. Tumbling and leaping over everything will be the Jesse White Tumbling Team. Medinah Shriners brings a little bit of everything to Geneva. And of course, our hometown parade would not be complete without the local Scout troops carrying a flag that spans half a block. With over 100 units - the excitement is something you won’t want to miss. So find your viewing spot and get ready to roar with the crowd.
