Festival of the Vine

Don’t keep all your fun ‘bottled’ up at home. Come down to Geneva’s Festival of the Vine for food and wine! For over 40 years, the Festival of the Vine has highlighted and celebrated the flavors of fall. Come and celebrate this year on September 10-12. Festival of the Vine, voted Best Festival in three different reader polls, is set in the picture-perfect downtown of Geneva, IL and is hosted by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce with support from the City of Geneva.

Our Flavor Fare, full of locally prepared food tastings, created by our very own Geneva Chamber of Commerce restaurateurs, comes alive as you pair your foods with intriguing wines, in all price ranges. It is the centerpiece of this year’s celebration. Again, we will be accepting credit card payments for ticket purchases. Take the hassle out of the ticket purchase. Go to the Chamber website for more information. Stroll down James and Third streets to discover business booths, arts & crafts show and carriage rides, sponsored by Waubonsee Community College. Travel around the festival on our trolley sponsored by SavWay Fine Wines & Spirits. On the Kane County Courthouse lawn (and new this year), we host our complimentary balloon artist that captured the hearts of our children during our Swedish Days’ Kids Day on Saturday. Then on Sunday, come and enjoy complimentary face painting for the kids. See our on-line schedule for exact

times. You can listen to local entertainers on the Courthouse stairs as well. The entire downtown area is filled with special fall sales and events during Festival of the Vine so take time to get acquainted with all Geneva has to offer.

The Festival of the Vine is supported by various community members. We thank our volunteers, businesses, sponsors, donors, the City of Geneva, and County of Kane for making this festival possible. For a full schedule, please visit genevachamber.com.

More reasons to celebrate await you at our Christmas Walk (December 3) and Holiday House Tours (December 3-4). Mark your calendars for the Christmas Walk celebration complete with carolers, seasonal goodies and the arrival of Santa Lucia and Santa Claus. We will again be adding another special weekend with a Caroling Tent and Cocoa Crawl. Watch for tickets. House tour tickets will be on sale mid-October. For more information about events call 630-232-6060 or genevachamber.com

Lumina Pinot Grigio - Lively and clean, this Italian white has crisp acidity and notes of citrus and apple with a pleasant touch of minerality. Eve Chardonnay- Dry, creamy and smooth, with a multitude of apple and lemon flavors and aromas, this Chardonnay can be very tempting. Kung Fu Riesling - This crisp and vibrant Washington state white offers flavors of white peach, apricots and mandarin orange. Minimally sweet, this Riesling delivers a great ‘punch’ with spicy foods. Band of Roses Rose - Made from 100% Pinot Gris, this dry, easy-drinking blush wine exhibits vibrant notes of peaches, pears and passion fruit.

Seven Moons Red Blend - This red celebrates the seven phases of the moon by combining seven grape varietals sourced from throughout California. Flavors of strawberry preserves, cherry cola, and milk chocolate follow through to a smooth finish. Dreaming Tree Pinot Noir - A project in conjunction with musician Dave Matthews, this North Coast California red offers up flavors and aromas of ripe cherry, wild strawberry and red currant. Easy drinking as well as food friendly.

Mondavi Barrel Aged Cab Sauvignon - Aged in bourbon barrels for at least three months, this unique and tasty California Cab is defined by a strong, pleasing aroma of dark berry fruit along with lots of vanilla and caramel flavors. Real Sangria - A blend of natural citrus fruit flavors and Spanish red wine, this refreshing drink is best enjoyed over ice, especially on a hot day.

Wine choices - 10 tickets per glass

Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc - The unique, beautiful New Zealand terroir is captured in the bottle as the wine exudes passion fruit and guava with an intense mix of grapefruit, lemon notes and a stone minerality.

Unshackled Sauvignon Blanc - The first white wine in the Unshackled by Prisoner Wine series, this California white wine’s delicious blend of sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc, and roussanne varietals highlights its North Coast roots with restrained notes of melon and peach.

Simi Chardonnay - Expressive flavors of tangerine and green apple are complemented with hints of cream and vanilla. Ruffino Organic Prosecco - Sourced from 100% organically grown grapes in Veneto, Italy, this new offering has intense flavors of apple and peach that lead to a pleasant finish with lingering fruit and floral notes. Meiomi Pinot Noir - Very popular for its unique structure and depth, this California red has supple tannins, silky texture, and balanced acidity that make it pair well with a variety of foods.

Unshackled Cabernet Sauvignon - Vibrant flavors of black stone fruit and dried herbs with solid tannin structure result in a flavor-forward Cabernet Sauvignon with balanced acidity.

Wine choices - 16 tickets per glass

The Prisoner Chardonnay - Rich and full-bodied like its genre-defining red sibling, this new white wine offering is rich with aromas of vanilla and baked apple, followed by flavors of pineapple and toasted oak.

The Prisoner Red Blend - Persistent flavors of ripe raspberry, boysenberry, pomegranate and vanilla linger harmoniously. This eclectic crowd pleaser has found a following among those preferring a bold, fruit-forward wine with strong structure.

Saldo Zinfandel - This California Zin features dark ruby color with bold aromas of black licorice, black pepper, cherry, and baking spice. The finish is accentuated with soft, velvety tannins with a touch of chocolate. My Favorite Neighbor Cab Sauvignon - With a devout cult following, this Paso Robles Cabernet Sauv showcases the future of the region and how it can contend with its Napa and Sonoma contemporaries. It offers deeply concentrated red and blue fruit preserve flavors and candied licorice, roasted coffee and spice notes that build in the glass.

‘Tis the season to spend in Geneva

Christmas Walk and House Tour December 3 & 4

Yuletide cheer fills the winter air when Geneva prepares for

its annual Christmas Walk and House Tour, December 3 and 4. A magical tradition held the first Friday and Saturday in December, sponsored by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce with the support of the City of Geneva. Five charming homes, aglow with holiday decorations, will open their doors to visitors for self-guided tours on Friday from 10 am to 8 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. The personality of each home will illuminate when local decorators and landscapers work with homeowners to create holiday magic. A portion of the proceeds from the House Tour are used to decorate Geneva for the holiday season. Tickets ($35) will be available to order after mid-October online or phone, see below for both. This event may sell out, so order early. The holidays come alive in Geneva Friday evening beginning with the arrival of Santa Lucia, the Swedish symbol of the season. She and her attendants offer Swedish cookies to merry-makers. The Great Tree on the Courthouse lawn is lit and the young and young at heart will wait with anticipation as Santa Claus arrives. Santa will then be available for visits from excited children. The excitement begins at 6 pm. Amongst the twinkling lights and fresh greenery lined streets, chestnuts are roasting over open fires, carolers are filling the night air with seasonal favorites and a live nativity scene is taking place. Dazzling window displays brimming with gift ideas invite shoppers to stroll through shops as merchants serve traditional holiday refreshments. A Geneva Christmas is one not to be missed. Visit genevachamber.com or call 630.232.6060 to discover more magical offerings weekends in December.

12:00 - 2:00 pm: Jim Duncan and Tim Logsdon – Jim Duncan began his love of music in high school as a member of the perennial national powerhouse jazz band from MacArthur High School in Decatur. His jazz roots helped him make a quick transition to guitar and vocals later in life. Jim has been playing music around Chicago since 2009 with bands “The Leftovers” and “Joey Sunset Project.” Tim Logsdon is a veteran of the Northwest Illinois music scene with credit on several full-length releases. His original music group “The Couch Coins” has been a staple from the Quad-cities to the western suburbs for years. His bluesy style and double picking are a product of growth from his 70s & 80s rock roots. There is always a lot of fun to be had when these two dynamic performers unite as they are an extremely formidable duo playing country, rock, and blues.

2:30 - 4:00 pm: The Shades – The Shades are a Chicago area Rock band composed of four veteran musicians with decades of experience and a melting pot of musical backgrounds. Business professionals by day, these four members formed this group with only one thing in mind: To Make Great Music to be shared with a Great Audience. Apart from having a song list that covers decades of music and musical styles, The Shades take great pride in taking on popular songs that are not necessarily covered by other bands. Sunday entertainment co-sponsored by Elise Flagg Academy of Dance

Tyler Krienitz – Tyler Krienitz is a 30-year-old singer/songwriter from Chicago. His music is both traditional and progressive drawing from influences such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, The Velvet Underground, The Tallest Man On Earth, and Townes Van Zandt. He performs all over the Chicago area and has released 4 studio albums.

Sunday, September 12

Annalee Hooson – Annalee has made a name for herself as an independent artist, traveling the world for both public, private

and corporate concerts and events. She finds her inspiration in writing when she is taken out of her comfort zone and placed in a completely new environment. The challenge of creating opportunities for performing and sharing her music in new places is endlessly stimulating. Festival of the Vine 2021•
