For those who haven’t visited downtown Aurora in a while, hold your bike helmet because this area is undergoing a fantastic revitalization with new shops, dining and events that will have you pedaling back for more. There are some great shops worth a visit, including Wyckwood House at 80 S. River St. where owner Shannon Gutierrez has renovated a space that houses an incredible store with everything from clothing to décor, and if shopping has you parched, step right up to the cocktail bar for a little refreshment.

Be sure to pop over to another watering hole to nosh and indulge. Then you will be ready to check out Warehouse 55 at 55 S. Lake St. with two floors and more than 30 vendors of vintage and mid-century items that will have you wishing you could hook a trailer to your bike to haul back all your favorite finds.

The motto at Happenstance Goods is “this is not your grandma’s boring antique store,” and with one visit you’ll soon see why this shop, featuring vintage and antique furnishings, décor and just plain cool stuff, is a great place check out. Located at 67 Main St., the shop is managed by a mother-daughter team that strives to find something for everyone. And for those who love DIY furnishings, they carry a large assortment of mineral paint and will happily chat about your project, offering tips and marveling at your ideas.
