ABOUT SANDWICH
Sandwich is a city in DeKalb, Kendall and La Salle counties with a population of about 7,000 residents� The city was founded in 1858 by Wentworth Warren and named after his hometown of Sandwich, New Hampshire
Sandwich is known for its annual Sandwich Fair, which is one of the oldest county fairs in Illinois� The fair is held every year on the Wednesday through Sunday after Labor Day and draws more than 100,000 visitors annually� The community is home to a number of other attractions, such as the Sandwich Opera House and the Sandwich Historical Society Museum
The city is also home to a number of businesses and industries, including manufacturing, agriculture and retail� Sandwich is home to the Sandwich Community Unit School District 430, which serves approximately 2,000 students�

YOUNG LEADER SCHOLARSHIP
Chamber program invests in the future leaders of Sandwich
The Chamber’s mission is to promote, educate and support our members and build a strong bridge between business and community By awarding the Young Leader Scholarship, the Chamber invests in the education and development of tomorrow’s local leaders, aligning perfectly with our mission to promote the Sandwich area
This $1,000 scholarship is presented to a promising graduating senior at Sandwich High School Through this scholarship, we aim to encourage the next generation of leaders to pursue their passions through further education Whether it be a community college, a university or a trade school, as an entity that works with local businesses and the community, we see the invaluable impact of further education In past years, through our generous Chamber and community members, we have raised money by selling 100 squares ($20 per square) on a square board In 2025 we are doing something a little
different� The Chamber will host a golf outing on Sunday, Feb� 16, at the Yorkville Golf Dome A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Young Leader Scholarship Funds
Where can graduating seniors apply next year? Sandwich High School seniors can get the application to apply for the 2025 Young Leader Scholarship from their school counselor in March
As our community grows, the Young Leader Scholarship committee plans to continue growing alongside Our goal for the coming years is to raise enough money to expand our program to have the ability to give our two $1,000 scholarship awards in the future� We plan to achieve this all while continuing to support local businesses and community development, fostering a thriving environment for our future leaders

SUMMER PACK PROGRAM
the need to provide extra support to children doensn’t end
Did you know? 36% of students in Sandwich are considered low-income Our local schools provide a vital support system during the school year, but the summer months can be challenging for many Sandwich families The Chamber’s Summer Pack program aims to address this gap, discreetly delivering essential summer supplies and fun activities to families needing them most
How does it work? The schools within the Sandwich School District nominate all recipients of this program� We have a liaison that is our go-between for the school district and the Chamber� This allows us to keep the families’ information private We receive all of our stock for the packs from generous donors consisting of local businesses, individuals and organizations The packs typically include basic summer necessities, such as personal hygiene products, paper products, laundry detergent, suntan lotion and bug spray Fun items for the kids and gift cards from
local businesses also are included in the packs� Kind-hearted individuals from local businesses and organizations volunteer to organize the inventory, pack the packs and deliver them
This program originated 10 years ago from a post on social media from retired truancy outreach worker Denise Curran. Denise was trying to find help for a local family in need� This post caught the attention of Tricia Kleckner, Summer Pack Chairperson and founder, Sandwich Chamber member and owner of A&B Exteriors Alarmed by the family’s situation, Tricia reached out to Denise for a meeting Their conversation revealed the vast number of struggling families in Sandwich, facing challenges beyond just low income These included children living with grandparents, foster children and independent minors
Tricia, deeply moved by these families’ struggles, presented an idea to the chamber to create an initiative, striving to assist and support families in need
during the summer� This idea aligned perfectly to the Chamber’s mission, and from that one social media post, the Summer Pack Program was created The program originally began much smaller in 2014 by serving seven families in total This year, our 10th annual Summer Pack distribution, we delivered to an incredible 52 families (106 children) within the Sandwich School District!
The Chamber plans to proudly continue this program in 2025 and beyond As Tricia Kleckner, founder of the program, stated, “It is a true testament to what can happen when a community works together for the good of the local students ”

The Sandwich Park District offers a myriad of opportunities for individuals and families of all ages to enjoy the great outdoors any time of the year
There are 12 parks throughout the Sandwich community, and each offers its own special attraction to celebrate events and activities throughout the seasons� All parks are designed to provide wholesome, constructive and enjoyable leisure time experiences that benefit the individual resident and the community of Sandwich as a whole
Enjoy the diversity which each park location brings� The newest addition is Troeger Dog Park, which is the perfect place where residents and non-residents can spend time with furry friends It’s easy to register on the Sandwich Park District website
Milestone Park offers a variety of things to do� Looking to cool down from the summer heat? The Splash Pad at
Milestone Park is in operation from Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather permitting There are 13 different spray features throughout the 1,800 square feet of wetted concrete surface� There’s nothing like
having fun in bare feet as the sprays hit you from head to toe!

the required elements like half pipes, ramps, rails and more for beginners to learn the sport or for seasoned skaters to perfect their moves
Many parks offer picnic areas and places to kick back Veteran’s Park features a large open gazebo that was dedicated to the memory of Virginia Hood, a past Sandwich Park District board member It is a place for many celebrations and a large variety of community events� The Sandwich Park District website has all of the information needed to check on events, registrations and facility rentals

The Sandwich Public Library serves as the hub of the community and believes that curiosity is necessary to seek and build knowledge Its role to spark an interest in learning and personal growth drives the library’s dedicated tagline of “Learn� Dream� Engage�”

Fox Valley Community Service took center stage at the 2024 Sandwich Area Chamber Dinner, proudly receiving the first-ever Nonprofit of the Year award This recognition was created in addition to our distinguished Business of the Year and the Karen BohrSepaniak Volunteer of the Year awards

Fox Valley Community Services, also known as FVCS or Fox Valley Older Adults, plays a giant role in our community� Since 1972
this incredible communitycentered organization has prioritized “helping seniors live active, independent lives�” They offer home services, active adult programs and adult day services But it doesn’t end there: they also have a close partnership with the Voluntary Action Center to do the Meals on Wheels program, which facilitates wellness and activities for
seniors, and they are also able to provide transportation

ABOUT FOX VALLEY COMMUNITY SERVICES
The Fox Valley Community Services focuses on meeting the needs of seniors to improve their quality of life. It is dedicated to helping them age positively and creatively through a variety of programs and services so they can live active, fulfilling and independent lives in the comfort of their own home.
Established in 1972, the Fox Valley Community Services organization serves senior residents ages 60 and older in a wide local area that includes Sandwich, DeKalb County, La Salle County and Kane County.
The goal is to meet the needs of seniors through their own personal interests and to improve and enrich vital independent living, enhance dignity and respect, and encourage participation in community life.
Seniors can spend time with others and enjoy a variety of services. Keeping healthy through physical fitness activities, such as group fitness, chair exercises, walking groups and yoga are available. Crafters can spur their creativity in a number of projects. More fun is available through games such as bunco, Wii bowling, line dancing and much more. Need quiet time? Bible study is available, too. Active seniors enjoy educational programs and senior travel groups.
Services to fulfill critical needs are available, such as Senior Transportation Services (VAC); a food pantry; non-medical home health services; adult day services; and an Alzheimer’s Support Group.
Fox Valley Community Services believes in the power and resiliency of a senior individual and supports them in their journey.
