It’s been almost exactly a decade since Anya Taylor-Joy made her captivating debut in Robert Eggers’ “The Witch” at Sundance Film Festival in January 2015, but what a decade it has been. From “Split” (2016), to Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit,” to iconic franchises such as Dune, Mad Max and even Super Mario Bros., TaylorJoy’s repertoire averages out at a little more than three onscreen projects per year. Now with the beginning of a new decade, the mesmerizing Argentina-born, U.K.-based actress starts off strong with an Apple TV+ film fresh out of the gate.
“The Gorge,” a dark, actionpacked thriller from “Doctor Strange” (2016) director Scott Derrickson, premieres globally Friday, Feb. 14, on Apple TV+.
In “The Gorge,” Taylor-Joy stars as Drasa, a “highly trained operative” who has been assigned to guard the East Tower overlooking a mysterious, misty gorge in a remote location outside the contact of regular society. Luckily for Drasa (and TaylorJoy herself), she has a companion — even if she isn’t supposed to engage with him.
“War Dogs” (2016) and “Top Gun: Maverick” (2022) actor Miles Teller stars as Drasa’s West Tower counterpart, Levi, through whose eyes audiences are introduced to the mission in question and, subsequently, the film’s plot. Once an elite military sniper, Levi is hired by an industry bigwig named Bartholomew (Sigourney Weaver, “Alien,” 1979) to help Drasa guard the titular gorge, which the trailer reveals as the mouth of Hell. Stationed on opposite sides of the cavernous trench, Levi and Drasa are ordered to be on alert and make sure nothing from within makes its way to the surface. To avoid distraction, it is also imperative that the agents not engage with one another in any meaningful way. But while this is an action thriller, the Valentine’s Day release signals love in the air.
Across ‘The Gorge’ Taylor-Joy, Teller co-star in action thriller this Valentine’s Day
The trailer shows Drasa reaching out to Levi by way of an attention-grabbing gunshot followed by a “Love Actually”style (2003) cue card reading “What is your name?” from across the misty expanse. What follows is a telescope-supported conversation, some longdistance chess and a tense buildup to the moment it all goes awry as Levi attempts to meet Drasa in person on the gorge’s East side.
When it comes to Teller and Taylor-Joy, however, the actors were already well acquainted.
“Miles and I have known each other for a really long time,” Taylor-Joy told Collider Editor-in-chief Steve Weintraub at Brazil’s CCXP film festival this past December. “I really wanted to work with him. I’m a big fan of him as a person and as an actor, and I knew I’d have fun.”
In response to his friend and co-star’s statement, Teller anticipated press write-ups by announcing that “Miles echoes that statement” before praising the originality of the film’s concept.
“We’re always looking for something that feels original,” said Teller, no doubt alluding to the onslaught of reboots, remakes and sequels cropping up in cinemas and on streamers in recent years, adding, “and this was entirely original.
“I just thought it was so incredibly creative,” the “Whiplash” (2014) star elaborated. “I really felt for both of these characters. There’s such a longing, there’s such an isolation, and all the things that come with having to do what they do for a career. Some of my best friends are in the military, and for what they’re required to do, there needs to be an outlet. You can’t carry it inside you — we know what the ramifications are of that. So I was just so excited to film those scenes with Anya.”
The film, for all its originality, is a product of screenwriter Zach Dean, who has a proven history of creating high-octane action dramas such as “24 Hours to Live” (2017), the Chris
Pratt-led Amazon Prime flick
“The Tomorrow War” (2021) and “Fast X” (2023), the 10th installment in the Fast and the Furious franchise.
Director Derrickson, meanwhile, is also garnering somewhat of a reputation in the film industry, particularly where hor-
ror is concerned. The Denver native previously directed Ethan Hawke-led films “Sinister” (2012) and “The Black Phone” (2021), as well as 2005’s “The Exorcism of Emily Rose,” 2014’s “Deliver Us From Evil” and the “Dreamkill” segment in “V/H/S/85” (2023).
With so much talent behind “The Gorge,” there is no doubt Apple TV+ opted to snag it from the Hollywood Black List of most-liked unproduced films. Described by Vanity Fair as “[a] brazen, high-action, genrebending, love story about two very dangerous young people,
who despite the corrupt and lethal world they operate in, find a soulmate in each other,” “The Gorge” is sure to thrill and frighten audiences this Valentine’s Day.
Don’t miss the Friday, Feb. 14, premiere of “The Gorge” when it makes its home on Apple TV+.

Hallo Heidi: Forget “auf Wiedersehen” for now — supermodel Heidi Klum is saying “hallo” again to “Project Runway,” with the former face of the program set to host for the first time in eight years.
Back in September 2018, both Klum and her “Project Runway” co-host, Tim “Make It Work” Gunn, announced they were leaving the show after 16 seasons together. While Karlie Kloss and Christian Siriano stepped in as replacements, with Siriano serving as both host and mentor in seasons 19 and 20, the OG host duo was already moving on to their next joint project, Prime Video’s “Making the Cut.” That fashion series launched in 2020 and ran for three seasons on Amazon’s streamer.
No additional seasons of “Making the Cut” have since been announced, and while the series’ cancelation hasn’t been announced, either, a continuation seems less likely with each passing year.
With Klum now set to return to “Project Runway,” everything old is new again — but not quite.
After bouncing around between Bravo (2004-2008, 20192023) and Lifetime (2009-2017), “Project Runway” has found a new weekly home on Freeform for its 21st season, with episodes available for streaming shortly after on Disney+ and Hulu.
“For 20 seasons, ‘Project Runway’ has captured viewers’ attention and cultivated a loyal following. The series has proven to be a valuable and enduring brand worldwide, and we could not be more excited to broaden the show’s breadth of viewership within the Freeform, Hulu and Disney+ ecosystem,” said Gary Barber, chairman and CEO of Spyglass Media Group (producers of “Project Runway”), in a statement.
At the time of writing, there was no word on Gunn’s possible involvement, nor have the judges or even a premiere date been announced.
Baylan recast: The role of disillusioned Jedi turned Force-sensitive mercenary Baylan Skoll has been recast ahead of the second season of Disney+’s “Ahsoka.”
In the first season, Skoll was played by the late Ray Stevenson (“Rome”), whose commanding bearing and baritone grit imbued the character with gravitas and authority. Skoll quickly became a fan-favorite and the highlight of Season 1.
Sadly, Stevenson died after a brief illness in May 2023, three months before the series’ premiere. Ever since then, fans have been wondering if, and how, this popular new addition to the Star Wars universe — one who has no allegiance to either side — might live on.
Whether it’s due to intense fan interest or the need to properly serve the story (or perhaps both), producers opted to recast the role, and now, Scottish actor Rory McCann — aka The Hound in “Game of Thrones” — is set to pick up the mantle and help honor his friend’s legacy by moving Skoll’s story forward.
Last we saw of Skoll, his story ended on a literal cliffhanger, with him standing at a cliff’s edge near two stony figures (and the remnants of a third) representing the Mortis gods, as he looks for “the beginning” on the planet Peridea. According to “Ahsoka” creator Dave Filoni (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars”), Stevenson didn’t see his character as the villain of this story, and it should be interesting to see what McCann brings to the role.
Season 2 of “Ahsoka” is still categorized as being in development, with no production start date announced yet.

Survival by committee Contestants’ families rule the game in ‘Extracted’
By Sarah Passingham TV Media
Surviving the challenges of everyday life is tough enough, right? Well, 12 contestants are willing to brave the elements of the Canadian wilderness for a serious payday of $250,000 in the new reality competition series “Extracted,” premiering Monday, Feb. 10, on Fox.
Survivalists have long held our fascination when it comes to reality television, from the boom of CBS’s “Survivor” defining the genre in the early 2000s, to the Canadian hit “Mantracker,” which premiered nearly 20 years ago, to current-day series like “Alone” on History and Fox’s “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.” However, “Extracted” is not just your average game of survival of the fittest.
The upcoming series adds a couple of new twists to the competition. First, the contestants vying for the grand prize are amateurs. No lifelong survivalists are among those trekking out into the wilds of British Columbia to set up camps from scratch. Without any specialized training and completely isolated from each other, competitors battle hunger, cold and the threat of predators for a chance to win a life-changing purse. While contestants control their basic needs — building shelter, making fire and collecting food — the rest of their game is not up to them.
In a remote headquarters far from the contestants’ camps are their loved ones, watching and dictating the game from afar. Competitors receive supplies that their designated family members prepare for them while playing a strategic game of their own at HQ. The power is in the hands of the contestants’ families, as only they can pull their survivalist from the game by pressing the big red extract button at HQ.
Contestants are surveilled 24/7 by remote cameras set up around their camps in addition to what they film of themselves, sometimes sharing emotional confessions of the struggle to survive in the great outdoors on the wall of screens in HQ. They pull on their loved ones’ heartstrings but also
provide other families with intel that they can use to build or destroy alliances within the game.
“Extracted” contestants include model Anthony, 18 (Dallas and New York City); teacher Ashley, 38 (Granbury, Texas); hairstylist and clown Davina, 42 (Jacksonville, Florida); river guide Haley, 26 (Long Island, New York); mortgage loan officer Jake, 35 (Meridian, Idaho); off-road event promoter Jakoben, 25 (McComb, Mississippi); wellness coach Meagan, 30 (Mandeville, Louisiana); personal assistant Robyn, 56 (Las Vegas); registered dietitian Rose, 30 (Denver); diesel mechanic Ryan H., 28 (Lincolnton, North Carolina); eBay reseller Ryan W., 41 (Conifer, Colorado); and retired law officer Woody, 50 (Grovetown, Georgia). Each competitor has brought along two loved ones they trust to help guide them to the grand prize. In HQ are Anthony’s parents, Yolanda and Tony; Ashley’s fatherin-law, Scott, and fiancé, Austin; Davina’s stepdaughter Tori and sister Devin; Haley’s friends Karly and Natalie; Jake’s brothers Austin and Justin; Jakoben’s uncle Terrance and cousin David; Meagan’s friend Abby and father, Gerrad; Robyn’s daughter Faith and husband, Lance; Rose’s cousin Kelsey and aunt Laura; Ryan H.’s parents, Roger and Candance; Ryan W.’s wife, Sarah, and brother Sean; and Woody’s son Blake and nephew Collin.
“Extracted” has a dystopian edge when compared to other shows in the survival competition genre. With its HQ surveillance and strategy room, the series evokes The Hunger Games film franchise or Netflix’s “Squid
Screen Scramble
Games,” fictional stories of lethal competitions between desperate competitors. That brutal, cinematic quality may be an influence from someone behind the scenes.
Sylvester Stallone (“Tulsa King”), Rambo himself, is the founder of Balboa Productions and is one of the producers of “Extracted,” along with B17 Entertainment, a part of Sony Pictures Television, and Fox Entertainment. Stallone also executive produces the new series with B17 founders Rhett Bachner (“Amityville: An Origin Story”) and Brien Meagher (“The Big Tiny Food Face-Off”).
Balboa Productions has mostly developed Stallone-centric film and television projects, like 2019’s “Rambo: Last Blood,” the 2023 Netflix documentary “Sly” and the Paramount+ hit drama “Tulsa King” before its latest venture into unscripted TV territory, as “Extracted” marks the production company’s first foray into the reality competition genre. Rob Buchta (“Running Wild With Bear Grylls”) is showrunner and executive producer.
British Columbia is one of the most in-demand filming locations in Canada. Whether it’s been dressed up to appear as another place, like for The CW’s “Riverdale,” or its terrifying natural beauty is part of the story, like in Netflix’s drama series “Keep Breathing,” or a bit of both like Showtime’s “Yellowjackets,” you have likely seen the province’s remote wilderness if you’ve known it or not.
Pull out your gear packs and settle in for the series premiere of “Extracted” on Fox, Monday, Feb. 10.
Unscramble the letters for each word to reveal five movies and TV shows. Then, rearrange the circled letters to discover the actor who has appeared in all five.

Known as the host and executive producer of “Hell’s Kitchen,” “MasterChef,” “MasterChef Junior” and “Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars,” renowned chef Gordon Ramsay dominates the TV culinary scene with “Food on Fox”— and his reign doesn’t end there, as “Next Level Chef” returns Thursday, Feb. 13, for its fourth season on the network.
After searching America from coast to coast, Ramsay has gathered talented chefs from a variety of backgrounds — from home cooks to line cooks to social media stars and everything in between — planning to put the bunch through a culinary gauntlet unlike any other as he searches for the world’s next superstar chef.
Split into three teams, the contestants will be assigned a mentor: either Ramsay, chef Nyesha Arrington (“The Taste”) or “Top Chef All-Stars” winner Richard Blais. Each week, these teams will battle it out for the top spot in the game, doing so literally as they are divided into three kitchens stacked on top of each other. The higher your level, the more equipment and ingredients you have access to.
“Over three stories high, each floor contains a stunningly different kitchen,” explains a description from Fox. “From the glistening top floor to the challenging bottom of the basement, the ingredients match the environment, because Ramsay believes the true test of great chefs is not only what they can do in the best of circumstances but what kind of magic they can create in the worst.”

WHAT’S NEW ON PEACOCK
“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” (2025) As one thing starts going OK and another falls spectacularly to pieces, the diary opens up once more. Streaming Thursday, Feb. 13, on Peacock, the new rom-com “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” makes its debut. The newest addition to the Bridget Jones film franchise, based on the book by Helen Fielding, “Mad About the Boy” follows Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger, “The Thing About Pam”), whose complicated love life and professional life has played out on screens since 2001. Now, Bridget finds herself alone once more, picking up with her four years after the death of her husband, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth, “Lockerbie: A Search for Truth”). As Bridget does her best to raise her two children and navigate her life with the help of her chosen family — including her friends Shazzer (Sally Phillips, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” 2016), Jude (Shirley Henderson, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” 2002) and Tom (James Callis, “Slow Horses”); her work colleague Miranda (Sarah Solemani, “Bad Education”); her mother (Gemma Jones, “Gentleman Jack”); her former lover Daniel (Hugh Grant, “Notting
Hill,” 1999); and even her gynecologist Dr. Rawlings (Emma Thompson, “Sense and Sensibility”) — who push her to take a dive into the wild world of modern dating. Soon finding herself pursued by the dreamy, enthusiastic and much younger Roxter McDuff (Leo Woodall, “The White Lotus”) while grappling with her awkward new interactions with her children’s science teacher (Chiwetel Ejiofor, “The Man Who Fell to Earth”), Bridget’s diary is brimming with juicy hilarity once more. With a screenplay written by Fielding, Dan Mazer (“Borat,” 2006) and Abi Morgan (“The Split”), “Mad About the Boy” is directed by Michael Morris (“Better Call Saul”). Jim Broadbent (“Iris,” 2001) and Isla Fisher (“Wolf Like Me”) also star.

“La Dolce Villa” (2025)
Experience the sweeter side of life when the new rom-com “La Dolce Villa” premieres Thursday, Feb. 13, on Netflix. Eric (Scott Foley, “Scandal”) and his daughter, Olivia (Maia Reficco, “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin”) could not be any more different. While Eric is a rigid, successful businessman, Olivia is a daydreamer with wild ambitions. So when Olivia decides to travel to Italy to pour her life savings into restoring a crumbing villa, Eric follows right along behind her, trying to convince her to stop. However, the magic of Italy has other plans in
store for the hard-working father, as he soon has his views on love and life — and even the dilapidated villa — opened up like never before. Also starring Giuseppe Futia (“Still Out of My League,” 2021), Violante Placido (“The American” 2010), Jenny De Nucci (“Phobia,” 2023), Simone Luglio (“Martin Eden,” 2019), Tommaso Basili (“Ferrari,” 2023) and Daniel Panzironi (“La Storia”), the film is directed by Mark Waters (“Mean Girls,” 2004) and written by Elizabeth Hackett (“A Perfect Pairing,” 2022) and Hilary Galanoy (“Falling Inn Love,” 2019).
“Surviving Black Hawk Down”
Explore the real-life, harrowing story that inspired a big-screen action epic when “Surviving Black Hawk Down” premieres Monday, Feb. 10, on Netflix. In 2001, filmmaker Ridley Scott (“Alien,” 1979) brought a gritty, horrifying story of war and bravery to the masses with the film “Black Hawk Down,” following the American troops who lived through the Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia. This new docuseries turns the cameras back to the story once more — but this time it’ll be told by the real people who lived through it. “Blending raw, immersive storytelling with first-person interviews from both sides of the Battle of Mogadishu,” says Netflix, “the series features interviews, reenactments and shocking footage captured on the ground before, during and after the bloodshed, providing a multifaceted perspective on a day that forever changed the lives of everyone involved.” Members of the Army Rangers and Delta Force, the special operation units that worked together during the battle, appear in the series, along with residents of Mogadishu and more. Directed by Jack MacInnes (“Inside the Commons”), the series is produced by Ridley Scott Associates.

“My Fault: London” (2025)
The lifestyles of the rich and famous stay as complicated as ever in the new young adult drama film “My Fault: London,” premiering Thursday, Feb. 13, on Prime Video. Based on the first book of Mercedes Ron’s bestselling “Culpables” trilogy, the movie follows 18-year-old Noah (Asha Banks, “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder”), whose life is uprooted when she moves to London with her mother, Ella (Eve Macklin, “Brooklyn,” 2015), to live with her wildly
wealthy lover, William (Ray Fearon, “Barbie,” 2023). However, Noah soon finds herself falling for William’s bad boy son Nick (Matthew Broome, “The Buccaneers”) as he introduces her to life as a wealthy Londoner. As Noah and Nick fight to keep their attraction at bay, a whole new complication rears its head as a ghost from Noah’s past starts haunting her from the shadows. Directed by Charlotte Fassler and Dani Girdwood (both of “The Chainsmokers Feat. Kelsea Ballerini: This Feeling,” 2018), “My Fault: London” is written for the screen by Melissa Osborne (“Change,” 2011). Enva Lewis (“How to Have Sex,” 2023), Jason Flemyng (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” 2008), Kerim Hassan (“Champion”), Sam Buchanan (“Such Brave Girls”), Amelia Kenworthy (“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”) and Harry Gilby (“The Last Kingdom”) also star.

“SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)”
Explore the life and impact of a groundbreaking musical group with the documentary “SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius),” premiering Thursday, Feb. 13, on Hulu. Rising to fame in 1968 with their first No. 1 hit, “Everyday People,” Sly & The Family Stone, the funk band and pioneers of psychedelic soul, used their catchy sound to speak out on a host of social issues. An examination of the band’s life and legacy — with charismatic frontman Sly Stone, Freddie Stone, Rose Stone,

Directed by Questlove (“Summer of Soul (... Q: I’ve noticed a few movies where the director and producer have “p.g.a.” after their names in the credits. What does it mean?
A: The letters “p.g.a.” after a producers name stand for Producers Guild of America. In a film’s credits, they indicate that this person actually did the bulk of the producing work.
You may have noticed, depending on the film, a wall of producer names in the credits — executive producers, line producers, co-producers and plain old producers. Some of these people may have just contributed some funding, some did a bit of producing work alongside other tasks — and it’s a long-standing Hollywood joke that sometimes people just receive producer credits as a favor or a trade.
According to the PGA, it became a problem for actually determining who was truly responsible for making the movie. So they began working with the major studios to institute this certification process, which they call the Producers Certification Mark. The
producer, or occasionally producers, of the film apply to the guild for the certification, usually during the post-production phase. And the guild then grants them the right to put “p.g.a.” after their name in the credits so the audience can know who was really responsible.
This is all about clarifying who in the group of credited producers actually did the work, but occasionally a film can have more than one certified producer. That usually happens when there’s a lot of work to be done.
Big, complicated Marvel movies, for example, with eight-figure budgets and hundreds of crew members, often have multiple producers with the “p.g.a.” certification. Last year’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” had three, in fact: Kevin Feige (president of Marvel Studios, whose name is on productions from “Agatha All Along” to 2018’s “Black Panther”), Shawn Levy (a producer-director best known for co-creating “Stranger Things” and many other hits) and Ryan Reynolds (who was also the star of the film).
Q: Who is the creepy actor behind the Pale Man in “Pan’s Labyrinth”? And does he do other stuff?
A: The actor who brought the terrifying Pale Man to life in “Pan’s Labyrinth” (2006) was
Doug Jones. Not only does he do other stuff, but he may be one of the hardest-working people in Hollywood, though few would probably recognize him.
Baron Afanas on the vampire comedy “What We Do in the Shadows,” which aired its series finale in December.
As is typical for Jones, he has multiple new projects currently on the go, but one might be of particular interest. He’s currently filming “Get Me Doug Jones,” a feature-length documentary that “seeks out to find how this actor/mime went on to become one of Hollywood’s most sought after actors.”
Sudoku
That’s because there’s usually layer upon layer of prosthetics and makeup between his face and the camera. But filmmakers keep casting him specifically because of his ability to project through all that junk — to make audiences connect with and believe the characters anyway, whether they’re terrified by them or moved by them.
His biggest roles do a little bit of both — he’s gained accolades for playing misunderstood monsters of one type or another. For example, he was Abe Sapien, Hellboy’s amphibious sidekick, in “Hellboy” (2004) and “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” (2008), and he was another amphibious man (and also the most unlikely romantic lead ever) in the multiOscar-winning 2017 drama “The Shape of Water.”
He’s been busier with TV more recently, and just wrapped two different long-running roles. He starred as Cmdr. Saru in “Star Trek: Discovery,” which ended in early 2024 after five seasons. And he had a recurring role as
“Wednesday,” the teen-targeted “Addams Family” update series, also on Netflix.
No premiere date has been set for either show.
Incredibly, between all of this, Myers has also had time to film a role in another high-profile project due out later this year. She’s part of the star-studded cast of “A Minecraft Movie,” a live-action feature film based on the hugely popular video game.
Q: I loved the young woman who starred in “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” and I loved her in “Wednesday” as well. What’s she doing next?
I’m pretty sure I’ll like whatever she’s doing.
A: I’m certain you’ll like what Emma Myers is doing next, because it’s more of what you liked already.
The 22-year-old star is having a bit of an it-girl moment, with major roles in two hit shows about to release highly anticipated second seasons.
As you say, she’s the lead character in the Netflix mystery series “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” and she plays the title character’s best friend in
But teenage gumshoe Pip, her character in “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” is still Myers’ main gig. Not only because she’s unequivocally the lead in that one, but also, she told Variety magazine, because the character is a lot like her.
