In the Schimmer Automotive Group, family is the heart of the business. The family-owned-andoperated auto group was named Best Car Dealer and for Tori (Schimmer) Winterrose, it speaks to the loyal customers who’ve turned to the auto group for the last seven decades.
“It’s an honor to have won this award,” Winterrose said. “We’re so grateful to our community, our loyal customers, and especially to our employees who have made this possible. If it weren’t for our team of awesome employees, we would have never ended up on the ballot in the first place. So, a huge thank you to them. I think that winning this award speaks to the strong community presence we have in the area,” she said.
business launched in 1945. Vehicles have changed with each passing year, but the dedication to quality service has remained a constant for 79 years.
She and her husband, Dan, left their previous careers earlier this year and stepped into new roles at the dealership, marking the fourth and latest generation to serve in the auto group where customer service is a top priority. The family
In Mendota, Schimmer Chevrolet was the first operation for the family business and remains a top location for new Chevys as well as pre-owned vehicles. The most recent addition to the Schimmer group was the 2020 launch of the Schimmer Truck Center, providing sales and support of Medium Duty trucks, flatbeds, low cab forward, and more.
The Schimmer Automotive Group expanded operations in the 1990s to include Schimmer Ford in Peru, and in 2001, it launched Schimmer Hyundai in Peru. In 2009, the group acquired Valley Ford in Spring Valley, and in 2012, the group acquired R&R Ford in Mendota, now known as Mendota Ford.
community, whether it’s shopping for a vehicle, providing maintenance, or serving as a workplace for multiple family generations.
“We have generations of families who have worked with us,” she said.
At all four locations, Schimmer’s prides itself on its knowledgeable sales staff, who specialize in new Hyundai, Ford, and Chevrolet vehicles, as well as its efficient and honest finance department, who always work hard to get customers the best deal possible. It’s often said within the Schimmer Automotive Family that the “bread and butter” of the business is their fixed operations, otherwise known as the service and parts departments.
Winterrose said the auto group is proud to have a great reputation with the
experience, but at Schimmer’s, it’s important to us that this process is as straightforward, timely, and stress-free as possible.”
Just like in the sales department, the service department sees generations of customers come through the door.
“It’s pretty cool to have someone walk in the door looking to purchase a vehicle or have their car serviced and find out that their parents and sometimes even grandparents have been customers at Schimmer’s,” she said.
“Our service and parts staff are essential to the success of the business, and they’re often staff members who get overlooked,” Winterrose said. “Everyone knows that dealing with car problems can be a stressful and unpleasant
Community is important to the Schimmer Auto Group. It’s common to see Schimmer employees volunteering their time to support the community by assisting in sports and civic organizations. The Schimmer Auto Group also provides financial support to the community, from the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival to the youth sports and high school programs as well.
In June of 1949, we moved to 1503 West Washington Street in Mendota. Don Schimmer was named Dealer Operator at just 21 years old in June of 1950. From 1958 to 1960, we sold Voxhaul automobiles in addition to Pontiac at the Washington Street location. Don Schimmer acquired both Buick and Oldsmobile franchises from Widmer & Sons in 1979 and subsequently acquired the Chevrolet franchise from Harvestside Chevrolet in 1982.

In the past, we held several similar contests across the area, but this year, we decided to harness the power of our combined news and radio audience to create one all-encompassing contest: The Best of the Illinois Valley. This year-round celebration recognizes the very best businesses, people, and places in the Illinois Valley. The people have spoken, and now it’s time to celebrate the 2024 Best of the Illinois Valley Awards!
The journey began back in March when we opened nominations in over 160 categories, spanning Home Services, Auto Sales & Service, Food & Beverage, Professional Services, Health & Beauty, Local Arts, Leisure & Entertainment, and Local Retail. After receiving an incredible 25,000 nominations, the top five in each category advanced to the second phase— voting. Through May and June, an astonishing 108,297 votes poured in, and the BEST of the Illinois Valley was chosen!
In this edition, you’ll find the top three picks in each category, along with spotlights on some of your favorites as they express their gratitude for your support and share why they believe they were chosen. On September 12th, we will celebrate these winners in person, and we will continue to honor them throughout the year!
Whether you’ve lived in the Illinois Valley your whole life, are new to the area, or are just visiting, we hope you find these award-winning recommendations helpful and experience for yourself why they were named the Best of the Illinois Valley.
Enjoy!

Clients can clearly see that dogs are more than just a business for Laura Loch, owner of Loch Countryside Kennel in Peru. Her love for dogs shows in how she runs her business – and in the impressive list of awards she has racked up in recent years. Her clients are so impressed with Loch Countryside Kennel that they recently named it the Best of Pet Boarding.
“As a 10-time award-winning kennel, this was an amazing feeling, knowing that I have such loyal customers that would take their time to vote for Loch Countryside Kennel as their favorite pet boarding facility. It puts the biggest smile on my face,” Loch said.
Loch thinks her customers are so happy with her services because they can see how much their pets mean to her.
“My kennel stands out from the rest with the amount of care, passion, and love that I have for my customers’ fur babies 24/7. I treat each dog as if they were my own,” she said.
When Loch first moved to the Illinois Valley, she didn’t have any experience running a kennel, and she had no ties to the area. She had to rely on her people skills, hard work, and pure passion for dogs to build a successful business from the ground up.
Loch takes great joy in making a difference in her clients’ lives. She knows that leaving their beloved pets behind can make her customers anxious, and she works hard to ease their minds and give pets top-notch care when they can’t be with their loved ones.
Part of caring for people’s pets includes safeguarding them from other potentially aggressive dogs. Loch is selective about the dogs she accepts, and if there is any sign of aggression, she won’t allow a dog to stay at her kennel because she won’t endanger the pets she watches.
She appreciates the support her customers have shown her business over the years.
“I would like to thank each and every customer for 13 and a half years of their amazing loyalty to me and my kennel. That means everything to me. I am always here to take care of your sweet dogs, whether it’s for an exciting vacation, a time to spend with family, or for medical issues,” Loch said.
As the owner of Loch Countryside Kennel, I am happy to accommodate my customers with taking care of their sweet dogs! Whether it’s a night, several days or a week – we o er the absolute best care! Your fur babies home away from home!
After 13 1/2 years as the owner of Loch Countryside Kennel, I still love to get close with my customers fur babies.

X-ERCISE SCIENCE HELPS CLIENTS REACH FITNESS GOALS
People exercise for various reasons – fitness goals, training competitions, or simply wanting to feel better. JP Ramirez knows there are many motivations that bring people through the doors at X-ercise Science in Peru. He’s created a fitness center where everyone is welcome.
“We work with everyone – young adults, middle age, elderly, athletes, post and prephysical rehabilitation, and those just looking for a great workout,” JP said.
He opened his first 1,400-square-foot fitness center 12 years ago. JP and his team have built a strong business with a loyal following, including many members who have been with him since he launched the first center. Today, X-ercise Science is located in a 15,000-square-foot facility in Peru.
The business earned multiple recognitions in the Best of the Illinois Valley competition.
“It’s nice to see our staff recognized for their hard work,” JP said.
In addition to access to general fitness, X-ercise Science offers members oneto-one personal training and small group classes, including cardio boxing, boot camp, and high-intensity training. Classes are offered in four-
week increments, making it convenient for members to commit to a class session.
At X-ercise Science, the staff understands sometimes fitness is more than building muscles and dropping pounds.
JP said pursuing fitness can be a good way to manage stress and challenges in life and build mental strength and resilience.
JP studied exercise science and athletic training at Eureka College and started his career at a fitness facility, where he worked his way up to personal training director. When he was ready to launch his own business, he decided to return to his community.
For JP, the fitness center is a place where staff and members are treated like family.
“We really strive for a familylike environment,” JP Ramirez said.
It helps to have some family members around the center, too. JP is the oldest of four brothers and is proud to have his younger brothers, Michael, Jesse, and Robbie, as part of the team, as well as his wife, Krissa, who works full-time as an operating room nurse in addition to lending support with office work at the fitness center.
John Mitchell serves as lead trainer, and Raul Mendoza is the manager at X-ercise Science.
JP Ramirez said all his training staff are certified, and continuing education is a priority, with classes and opportunities to work with professionals to develop their skills.

Building professionals and homeowners know when it comes to the best in materials, design services, and products in the Illinois Valley, the place to go is Maze Lumber Company in Peru.
It’s no surprise that readers voted Maze Lumber the Best Cabinets, and Deck and Porch. It has also been recognized as one of the best when it comes to bathroom and kitchen construction, fencing, and windows and siding.
Maze Lumber has been a part of the community for 176 years, providing top-quality building materials and construction services for generations.
“Thank you to all of our wonderful customers for voting Maze Lumber. We wouldn’t be here without you, and we look forward to continuing to be your favorite local building materials supplier!” said Andrew Kreofsky, Operations Manager at Maze Lumber.
Beyond the lumber yard, customers are invited to shop inside the modern showroom boasting 15,000 square feet of beautiful displays of the latest products to inspire home designs and renovations.
Each member of the Maze Lumber team, from the helpful, professional sales associates to its designers, understands the importance of great customer service through every step of a project. The team members provide their personal experience and their expertise in building materials to help customers.
Maze Lumber carries a large number of products that include flooring, backsplashes, roofing, decking, millwork, cabinets, windows, doors, siding, stone, and fireplaces.
Customers have turned to Maze Lumber for designing a new kitchen, bathroom, or creating an outdoor space for entertaining all year long.
Maze Lumber owns and operates a fleet of vehicles to provide speedy delivery to keep your project on track.
In addition to products, the team at Maze Lumber can provide estimates for projects, measurements, and design services. Maze also offers referrals to local contractors to help manage a project from start to finish.
Founder Samuel Nesbitt Maze started his lumber company in 1848. The Irish immigrant started with a modest yard in Peru. He chose the location as it was near the new Illinois-Michigan Canal, linking Peru to the Mississippi River and Lake Michigan.
From a modest lumber yard to a modern, full-service provider of building materials, the fifth and sixth generations of the Maze family provide service and continue the tradition.
“We have been providing building materials to the Illinois Valley for 176 years, and we look forward to continuing our legacy long into the future for generations to come!” Kreofsky said.
When you step onto the property at Kishauwau Cabins in rural Tonica, it feels like a family trip you might remember from your childhood – and that’s exactly how the owners, Terisa and Jamie King, want you to feel.
“It’s how we run it,” Terisa said. “Nobody else mimics the feel customers get when they come here.”
Although they provide modern amenities that customers appreciate, like self check-ins, the Kings ensure that Kishauwau Cabins retains its Mom-and-Pop charm. This atmosphere is especially evident in the General Store, which stays open after hours. Customers are trusted to use the honor system for their purchases.
Kishauwau Cabins exudes a warmth and charm that makes every guest feel like part of the family. Nestled amidst nature's embrace, the cabins were born from a family’s deep love for this special place. Terisa and Jamie, the current owners, have been the heart and soul of this retreat since 2018, but their roots here run deep.
Jamie grew up exploring these very woods, long before he and Terisa took the reins. His dad & step mom, Ben and Ellen, envisioned Kishauwau as more than just a getaway—it was a sanctuary for those who cherish the great outdoors. Picture a place where laughter echoes through the trees, where campfires crackle under starry skies, and where friendships are forged over shared adventures.
Decades may have passed since Ben and Ellen first opened the doors, but that spirit of camaraderie and connection still pulses through every cabin. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel it—the sense that this is a place where stories are shared, memories are made, and nature is celebrated. Whether you’re seeking solitude or companionship, Kishauwau Cabins offers a timeless retreat where the family vibe welcomes you in like an old friend.
“It’s such a nostalgic place,” Terisa said. “You don’t find a ton of Mom and Pop places anymore.”
The Kings were thrilled to learn they had won an award for Cabin Rentals because it’s proof that customers love the personal touch provided at Kishauwau Cabins.
“I was so excited,” Terisa said about learning they had received an award. “I was astonished and honored.”
With its easy access to nearby top vacation sites, like Starved Rock State Park and Matthiessen State Park, Kishauwau Cabins offers a tranquil spot to unplug from technology, spend time with loved ones, and enjoy the wonders of the outdoors.
The cabins are made to be used all four seasons, so whether guests prefer the heat of the summer or the ground covered in snow, Kishauwau Cabins can offer comfortable cabins with fully-equipped kitchens, heating, and air conditioning.

For more than 70 years, Financial Plus Credit Union has served the Illinois Valley and surrounding communities with financial services.
It was an honor to have readers choose Financial Plus Credit Union as the Best Credit Union, Financial Institution, and Mortgage Lender, said Director of Marketing Lee Wilkins. As a credit union, the team at Financial Plus makes member service a top priority, whether through in-person banking at one of its five locations or online any time, day or night.
Having a trusted voice to answer member questions was a priority, Wilkins explained. When Financial Plus opened a call center to fill that need, it made the decision to staff the call center with existing credit union employees to provide the most helpful call response possible.
“We chose to use a pool of existing employees who already know our services and understand our members’ needs,” Wilkins said.
At Financial Plus Credit Union, it’s not unusual for staff to spend most of their career with the institution. Wilkins said several team members can boast of having worked for the credit union for multiple decades, even a few with 30 or more years. The current CEO Peter Fauth started with the credit union as a teller, working his way through the ranks of the credit union leadership.

As a developer, Mike Bird has overseen buildings sprouting from the street, but a special project has him trading in his construction hat for a suit and spending a lot more time attending weddings.
Bird is the developer and owner of the Auditorium Ballroom in downtown LaSalle, voted by readers as Best Venue. In a few short years, it has become a popular choice for couples.
“I had always hoped it would be something, but I never thought it would grow to the extent it has,” Bird said.
As a general contractor, Bird has worked on his share of projects, developing a variety of commercial buildings during his 18-year career. When he decided to take on the redevelopment of an old commercial building in downtown LaSalle, he couldn’t have predicted the path the project created for him.
Bird said he knew he wanted to turn the first floor into commercial rental properties, but he
A joyful moment as the bride and groom cut their wedding cake at the Auditorium Ballroom, a venue that adds a touch of historic charm and elegance to their celebration. The warmly lit, grand ballroom lled with guests provides a perfect backdrop for this special occasion.
A heartfelt moment during the wedding ceremony at the Auditorium Ballroom, where the couple stands before exposed brick walls and arched windows that enhance the venue's historic charm and romantic ambiance. The natural light streaming in adds to the warmth and elegance of this special day.
wasn’t sure what to do with the 10,000 square feet on the second floor. He started the building renovations in 2017, and it wasn’t long before he began to learn more about the building’s history. It was a car dealership around 1910, and later, it was converted into a ballroom where musicians like Louis Armstrong performed. Then, locals visited with him to talk about how they were married in the ballroom in the ‘40s and ‘50s.
“That got me wondering, ‘What kind of venue could this be?’” Bird said. “I thought we have good bones to work off of to make it a very elegant wedding venue.”
Following research, he crafted a business plan and stripped the building down to replace electrical and plumbing, and added a new roof and new windows, too.
Bird said he initially hoped the venue could provide additional revenues, hosting maybe 20 or 30 weddings a year. In roughly three years, the venue has hosted more than 280 events and as of July of this year, he was booked every weekend through the end of the year, with events booked for most of 2025 and into 2027.
“We have been a lot busier than what I expected,” Bird said, adding that he was taken by surprise to learn the Auditorium Ballroom had been voted Best Venue.
Bird’s vision for the location was to create an elegant wedding venue, mixing the original exposed bricks with vintage chandeliers he salvaged and repurposed. He used oak as the wood for the new hardwood flooring, adding how it looks old, worn, and elegant.
The venue has a liquor license and manages the onsite bar. Event hosts manage their own catering, and the site has chairs and tables onsite.
The Auditorium Ballroom can accommodate a 300-person event, Bird said. The first-floor space is available to host smaller events, including bridal showers, baby showers, and anniversary and birthday dinners for up to 70 guests. Bird said it’s special knowing his venue was chosen by individuals and families as the location for such monumental life milestones.
While the second-floor venue is primarily for weddings, Bird has been able to accommodate a few other events, including prom for St. Bede High School.
For Bird, it’s been exciting to see how the venue has taken off, and he enjoys having the ability to help boost the local economy, bringing people to the area and benefiting other local businesses.
“It’s definitely been good as we’re bringing people to check out the area. It’s definitely helping out everybody,” Bird said.

Lynch shared a message to Grasser’s customers on behalf of all the Grasser’s family members who work at the company – Gary, Jack, Mike, Brad, Holly, Heather and Chris.

Mr. Sparkle Auto Spa in Peru, Charlie Trovero’s locally owned and operated business, provides excellent service to its customers. Trovero shares the credit for the success of Mr. Sparkle with his hard-working staff, who make sure each customer feels welcomed and leaves with a smile.
“I’ve got a phenomenal staff,” said Trovero. “What sets us apart, I like the personal touch. The please, thank you, and the smile for the customer.”
From the attendant at the pay station there to help customers
select the wash and service to the attendant guiding the vehicles, there’s a person to help make the experience easy and convenient.
He launched the business in 2020, but the idea for it started back in 2018 when, on a small road trip, he found himself wondering why his hometown didn’t have a car wash. He set out to research the idea, then met with business consultants and began the blueprints for his business.
The express exterior auto spa offers customers a chance to have a quick car wash in under
three minutes or an opportunity to clean up the exterior and use the free vacuums to tidy up the inside as well.
“We have 27 vacuums and a mat cleaner and plenty of space, so customers can take all the time they need,” Trovero said.
In building the auto spa, Trovero took the time to select top-of-the-line equipment to provide the best service and made efforts to conserve water while maintaining equipment. He also selects the best products to clean, shine, and protect vehicles.
The wash uses a belt-driven conveyor system, which can accommodate oversized-width
performance tires. The vacuums offer a powerful suction to clean every crumb.
He and his staff make facility maintenance a priority to keep equipment working well so visitors can rely on the auto spa seven days a week.
Trovero offers single visits to Mr. Sparkle Auto Spa and monthly memberships and gift cards for his customers. He added that he and the staff often get to know their regular customers, greeting them by name. It’s just another part of the personal touch. For the former elementary school teacher, it’s not just a business –it’s about the community.

For more than 30 years, it’s been the place to celebrate a special occasion, an anniversary, and a moment together with family and friends. Prime Quarter Steak House is the destination for a great meal with a personal touch. The restaurant invites diners to select and grill their choice of USDA Choice steak or fresh seafood. Diners can also select the salad and baked potato bars to customize their sides.
Owner Al Sanger launched his first Prime Quarter restaurant in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1986. He knew of other restaurants offering a similar concept, but Sanger said he made it his own.
“I took the concept and ran a little harder,” Sanger said.
As part of a program to promote economic development in Princeton, Sanger was invited to the site of a former restaurant. Thanks to the wonderful warmth and welcome from the Princeton community, Sanger decided to launch an Illinois location.
Today, 33 years later, it continues to welcome locals as well as visitors who travel more than an hour to enjoy the dining experience.
“Princeton is, and has been, a delightful community to be a part of these past 30 plus years,” Sanger said.
The opportunity for diners to have an active part in selecting their specific cut of meat and how it is prepared over the grill creates a special dining experience. Sanger said diners will enjoy a beverage while grilling their steak and Texas Toast over massive live charcoal grills, chatting with others, and making new friends in a relaxed environment.
“The concept lends itself to a party atmosphere where customers are able to talk, laugh, and socialize with one another,” Sanger said.
To prepare for the evening dinner crowd, staff meticulously hand-cut each USDA Choice steak or selection of seafood. The menu remains simple, allowing each guest to customize their selected entrée.
Of course, diners can opt to have staff prepare their meal, but Sanger said the opportunity to get up and enjoy conversation at the grill enhances the dining experience.
Guests can indulge in hand-crafted cocktails from the full-service bar and enjoy a varied selection of appetizers and desserts.
The restaurant’s successful endurance through three decades is attributable to more than great food and a delightful dining experience. Sanger said he’s been tremendously fortunate to have incredible staffing.
“An excellent staff is paramount,” Sanger said. “That’s what’s kept the Prime Quarter Princeton location such a unique business endeavor and has contributed to its successful operation these many years. We’ve had a lot of fun with it and look forward to many more years of providing excellent food and fond memories.”
Whether you’re looking to make some donations or shop for items, the Habitat ReStore in Peru is a great place to go. Readers voted the shop One of the Best in resale shops and charitable organizations.
“It’s an honor, and it speaks to the work our staff at ReStore and the volunteers and the board of directors put in,” said Jon Scholtes, executive director of the Habitat ReStore serving LaSalle, Bureau, and Putnam counties.
The shop’s inventory is supplied through donations made by corporations, local businesses, and residents throughout LaSalle, Bureau, and Putnam counties.
Replacing a couch or dining room set? ReStore volunteers can pick up donations of furniture, household items, and more from local residents. This keeps items out of landfills, and shoppers enjoy giving furniture and items a new life in their home for a fraction of the retail cost of a new item, said Jessica Brayfield, manager of the Habitat ReStore and procurement.
There’s even a DeConstruction Team, a crew of volunteers who can remove old cabinets, appliances, doors, and sinks and bring them to the store for a second life.
Additionally, the store receives inventory through generous donations from retailers and businesses throughout the three counties. These donations, which are tax deductible for businesses and individuals, allow shoppers to find items at a discounted price. The income from the shop then funds Habitat ReStore’s mission to repair and build new homes in the community.
In the spring, Habitat ReStore in Peru will help fund its 18th home since the store opened its doors in 2020, Brayfield said. Each new or repaired home is supported through funding from the store, as well as private and corporate donations and the remarkable volunteers who give their time to the project.
“It reinvigorates the community when it comes to building. You see the community, volunteers come together in a show of support,” Brayfield said.
The home building provides a re-investment in the community, provides a family with a home, and generates a new source of taxes for the community, too.
Shoppers also enjoy visiting Habitat ReStore when working on up-cycle projects. The Peru location hosts repair and refinish classes to demonstrate ways to take a piece of furniture and give it a new look and life, Brayfield said.
The shop’s space for classes and more is the Miller Community Center, and it’s open to the public to provide free rental spaces that can be used for meetings and much more. It has hosted Illinois Valley Community College classes, children’s birthday parties, and even yoga and tai chi classes, Brayfield said.

For more than 40 years, John Pini has helped people protect their homes, automobiles, boats, and more.
It has been 44 years since Pini opened his State Farm Agency in Oglesby, and in those years, he’s served his clients, their children, and grandchildren through life’s stages and needs.
“We try to treat our clients like we would expect to be treated,” Pini said.
That philosophy has earned him awards from his customers.
“We are so grateful to our clients,” Pini said. “We strive day in and day out to do what’s best for our people.”
Pini was born and raised in Ladd. He attended Eureka College, where he studied business administration. After graduating from Eureka College, he married Diane Nachtnebel and joined the army. After serving in the army, he returned to the area and began his insurance career with Hartford. In 1980, he opened his State Farm Agency.
“I chose State Farm because of how it is structured to service their customers,” Pini said.
In those early days, he ran the office with help from Diane and his sister, Janice.
Pini said he chose to work with State Farm because of its reputation as a great insurance company. He said State Farm provides its agents with the support they need to put customers first.
“Our number one priority is offering and giving our people the service they deserve from an insurance company,” Pini said.
In his Oglesby office, he and the staff assist clients, whether modifying coverage to meet life’s changing needs or supporting clients in a time of need. His office of Kathy, Kelli, and Barb have a combined more than 56 years of insurance experience. Kathy, the office manager, has worked with him at the office at Walnut and Columbia for 35 years.
“They are a big part of us being voted number one,” Pini said.
Pini has earned recognition with the State Farm Legion of Honor Awards, including Bronze Tablet, Silver Scroll, Golden Triangle, and Crystal of Excellence, which is State Farm’s highest honor for an agency.
In addition to his work for State Farm, Pini has made time to serve the community as a member of the local business organizations, on the board of directors for a bank, and as a trustee for Eureka College. He is also a member of the American Legion and Elks Club.
Reliable, high-quality service is the priority at VJF Contracting Corporation. Owner and president Vince Funk took his years of experience and launched his contracting business five years ago, serving the Illinois Valley.
Earning these recent awards demonstrates the details Funk and his crew put into every job.
“We’re very particular with every job,” Funk said. “We give 100 percent because we want it done right.”
Funk started taking electrical classes while still in high school. Funk is a licensed electrician and has built his company around others with specialties, enabling VJF Contracting to serve as a one-stop shop for one’s home remodeling and repairs.
“We handle general construction, house remodels, and electrical,” he said.
Working in the Illinois Valley, Funk said he and his team are well-versed in the needs of older homes, including re-wiring, and servicing homes built in the last few decades.
With every job, Funk and his crew strive to use high-quality parts and equipment to provide the best results for every client.
Funk can also provide services as a residential and commercial real estate inspector, using his eye for detail and helping his clients ensure they have

With eight patient suites and the latest in equipment and procedures, the team can manage crown procedures for a patient in a single visit.
“Patients can relax under a warm, soft blanket, and we can have the crowns prepared in around one hour, rather than having patients return for multiple visits, saving the patient time and money,” Hauter said.

This recognition not only validates our efforts but also inspires us to continue innovating and improving our services,” Josh Taylor, third generation and Vice President of Taylor’s Way, said.
Taylor’s Way blend of technology, knowledge, and customer service results in respected relationships with its clients.
"At Taylor's Way, we uniquely blend traditional techniques with modern technology and innovation to deliver superior lawn and tree care. We believe in sustainability and want to build something that will outlast all of us. In terms of customer service, we prioritize transparency, education, and tailored care plans to ensure each client feels informed and valued. Our approach is to treat every property as if it were our own, ensuring meticulous attention to detail, and we truly want you to feel like you are a part of our company,” Josh said.
Taylor’s Way has helped extend the life of trees throughout the Illinois Valley by providing an effective treatment plan or expert trimming. With the company’s certified arborists and certified tree and lawn experts, customers know their yards are in good hands. The arborists at Taylor’s Way can diagnose and treat trees and shrubs so its clients can enjoy them for years to come. They also can help with pest control and are lawn care specialists who can ensure your yard is healthy and beautiful.
The Taylor’s Way team appreciates its loyal customers who continue to support the business.
“Your feedback and trust have propelled us to where we are today — an award-winning team dedicated to creating beautiful, sustainable landscapes for all to enjoy. We cherish this journey with you and are excited to continue enhancing our shared environment, ensuring a greener, more vibrant world for generations to come. Thank you for being an integral part of our family. Here’s to many more years of growing and improving outdoor spaces together," Josh said.
Public Pool: La Salle Veterans Memorial Pool
Community pride runs strong in La Salle, and recreational opportunities are plentiful. The City of La Salle has earned designations for Best City Park for Rotary Park, Best Public Pool for La Salle Veterans Memorial Pool, and the Best Community Event for the Celebration of Lights at Rotary Park.
Rotary Park has become a favorite location for events and for recreation. Softball, baseball, and soccer fields are busy from spring through fall. Children enjoy the playground, which is accessible to those in a wheelchair. Even furry ones can enjoy the park with the special dog park, while the fishing pier makes it a great place to sit and enjoy an afternoon of fishing. Rotary Park in La Salle continues to evolve and excite visitors every year with new additions and improvements. Most recently, the park was expanded in 2024 with a brand new Fitness Court for all ages and activity levels as well as The Quarry Disc Golf Course which has received high traffic both locally and from across the state! The Quarry Disc Golf Course is nationally registered on udisc.com. In November, Rotary Park undergoes a transformation for the annual “Celebration of Lights” Christmas Display, sponsored by
local families and businesses from throughout the Illinois Valley and North Central Illinois. There is no cost to attend the celebration; vehicles can drive through to see the displays.
“The most special thing I hear is when families come through and say this is part of their Christmas tradition,” said La Salle Mayor Jeff Grove.
While the holiday festival earned readers’ choice honors, locals know summer is a special time, too. Grove said “Celebrate La Salle” is a favorite summer festival and community celebration that takes place downtown.
“Families enjoy the festival that includes a carnival, food vendors, crafters, music, and of course, fireworks,” Grove said.
Swimming is a popular summer activity for people of all ages in La Salle. With its central location, it’s easy to understand why the community enjoys the La Salle Veterans Memorial Pool.
“The pool is really a great venue for all ages,” Grove said.
From swim lessons to summer splashes and, of course, the pool parties too, La Salle Veterans Memorial Pool is the perfect spot to visit in the summer with its splash pad, a zero-entry pool, a slide, and diving board.
When it comes to finding the right home for life’s stages and ages, the team at Local Realty Group is a small brokerage that delivers big results. As proof of Local Realty Group’s popularity, readers voted it as One of the Best realty companies.
“We’re honored,” said Broker/Owner Angie Heckman.
Local Realty Group developed from the former Gonet Real Estate & Land Co. With more than 50 years of experience in real estate, Michael Gonet continues to lend his expertise and assist clients as the managing broker for Local Realty Group.
In addition to Gonet and Heckman, the Local Realty
Group includes Beth ColemanWeger, Donna Bayler, and Brandi Kunkel. The firm has its main office in Granville, with additional locations in Spring Valley and Lake Wildwood.
The team has helped clients with residential properties, farmland, and in-town, small commercial properties.
The company’s success is partially due to the team’s strong collaboration, from its rebranding to the current firm to the continued support for each other and their clients throughout the real estate process.
“It’s a team effort,” Heckman said.
For the team at Local Realty Group, it’s more than just busi-
ness. Each member supports their community, local businesses and schools, and is dedicated to helping residents find the property they desire.
“We are invested in the communities and seeing the continued improvement of our communities,” Heckman said. “For us, it’s more than just real estate.”
Local Realty Group supports youth sports, local schools, food pantries, Rotary, and organizations like Grow Spring Valley.
For the members of the Local Realty Team, the community represents their families, friends, and their connections to other local businesses, from
small independent operations to a family cattle farm.
“It’s important to us to see our community continue to grow,” Heckman said.
The team serves the greater Illinois Valley. Local Realty Group is also proud to have agents who live and work in Lake Wildwood, a private, gated community located north of Varna. Having agents who are well-versed in the details of this lake community enables them to best serve clients seeking to call the area home, whether they are interested in a new home or building from the ground up on an available lot.
“We are all locally rooted here,” Heckman said.
