TALENT SHOW / OPEN MIC NIGHT – NEW EVENT AT BUREAU COUNTY FAIR This year the Talent show has been completely revamped and even has a category for adults to compete in. The Talent Show/ Open Mic Night will be Wednesday August 25th at 6 p.m. in the Grandstand. Admission is free and it’s free to compete. The top three finishers in each division will take home cash prizes. This show will be done in the style of America’s Got Talent with three judges. You can perform as a group or as an individual. Singers will be in the open mic part of the show and all other talents will be in the talent division. There are three age divisions – Youth –up to 12 years old; Teens – Ages 13 to 18 and Adults – 19 and over. Registration forms are available on www. bureaucountyfair.com or email office@bureaucountyfair.com and one can be emailed to you or you can pick up at the Fair office. Please register your talent by August 24th. Open mic singers can register now or up to 5 p.m. the day of the show. The First place competitor (ages 14 and under) and one (15 to 21 Years of age) will be chosen to go to the IL State Fair Convention Talent Show in January to represent Bureau County. WEDNESDAY AT BUREAU COUNTY FAIR IS FAMILY DAY Wednesday at Bureau County Fair is Family Day and you can bring the whole family for $10 for a carload of people. There is a wristband ride special that is the cheapest
all week – only $20 for unlimited rides from 5 to 10 p.m. The North American Midway is coming to Bureau County from the Indiana State Fair with a new selection of rides. All exhibits in the Fine Arts building will have been judged so stop in and see who got the blue ribbons. As always there will be plenty of great fair food. New this year is Tony’s Butt Shack in the Hospitality Building. The Grandstand event is free to attend. Senior Citizens can come to the Fair for only $2 on Thursday for Senior Citizen Day. At noon there will be bingo in the hospitality building and music will be performed all day long. A large group of volunteers will be in the infield setting up the equipment and chairs for the Martina McBride concert which begins at 8 p.m. Thursday night. Tickets that were purchased for the 2020 show are still valid for this show. Tickets are still available on www.bureaucountyfair.com Friday brings the power to the Grandstand with the Illini State Pullers Truck and Tractor Pulls. The Farm Stock Tractor pull begins at 5:30 p.m. The beer garden will be open. You can watch the powerful tractors and pickups as they scream down the track. There’s unlimited carnival rides from 5 to 11 p.m. for $25. If you love carnival rides Saturday is the day to come to the Fair. For only $25 you can ride from 1 to 11 p.m. – 10 hours of twists and turns and screams and thrills on the North American Midway. Action starts early in the morning with the horse speed show in the McCutchan Arena.
Watch the riders race their horses around the barrels – it’s exciting. Beef, poultry, and sheep will be showing Saturday. Hogs and Junior Beef will be shown on Sunday. Saturday the Demolition Derby begins with the Power Wheels Demo at 3:30 p.m. Come out and watch the little kids crash their Barbie cars and Gators into each other just like their Dad’s do. The Demo starts at 4 p.m. and promises to be full of hard crashing entertainment. Sunday is Veteran’s Day and a Vet and his guest get into the Fair for free. Wear your Red, White and Blue to support the Vets. There will be a special program saluting area veterans in the grandstand at 1 p.m. with a program by the Flags of Freedom committee and Quilts of Valor awarded . At 2:30 p.m. there will be a Chain Saw Carving auction and the Fair Queens will have a pie auction. Come out and make a bid on something special to take home in memory of the fair. The Open Horse Show and the Draft Horse Show will be held in the McCutchan Arena beginning with the open show at 9 a.m. and the draft show at 10 a.m. Daily Free Shows– Rhinestone Roper Dan Mink, the World’s Champion Western Performer and his horses Lucky Joe and Handsome Jack, are a favorite of the young and old alike. His show always attracts a crowd and then holds them with expert trick roping, bull whip cracking, six gun spinning, fast draw and Wheel of Death Knife Throwing. Rhinestone Roper has competed on America’s Got Talent and at Fairs and Schools across the nation. Lica is a Balloon Artist who will enchant
people of all ages with her timeless balloon designs and sparkly personality. You will find her in the Exhibit halls making amazing balloon creations for people of all ages. Bear Hollow Chain Saw Carving – You can hear the buzz of the chain saws behind the Fair office. Stop by and see the amazingly lifelike carvings that they make using chainsaws. Pick out your favorite and come to the chainsaw carving auction at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and take one home.
NIGHTMARE – HAUNTED ATTRACTION Get a sneak peak at some of the ghouls, creepy guys and scary clowns from Nightmare – the premier haunted attraction in northern Illinois. They only come out at night so watch out for them.
HOSPITALITY BUILDING MUSIC DAILY If you get tired walking around the fair be sure to stop in the Hospitality Building and enjoy the music presented by GES Sound. There will be many talented singers performing that will do all kinds of music from Jazz to Bluegrass to Country and 50’s and 60’s. Something for everyone every day of the Fair. It’s all free too! On Saturday at noon there will be a new event in the Hospitality Building called the Cutest Little Farmer Contest. Kids ages 1 to 9 years old can come dressed in their cutest little farmer outfit and can bring a prop with them (no live animals please). They will be split into different age groups. • If you purchased Martina McBride tickets last year they are still good and able to be used for the concert August 26th. • Yes, a whole carload of people can be admitted for $10 on Wednesday to the Fair. Other days are $5 for adults. If you have a ticket for the grandstand event show it at the gate to get into the grounds. Gate admission is included in the ticket price. • Sunday afternoon is the day to bid on a chain saw carving or a tasty homemade pie during the auction. • A first time event “The Cutest Little Farmer” contest will be held Saturday at noon in the Hospitality building. Bring your child dressed up as a farmer and see how they do.
• There is a beer garden at the grandstand where you can get a cold brew while your kids ride the rides. • Be sure to check out the renovated poultry barn next to the blue block restroom. • The entertainer in the free on grounds show – the Rhinestone Roper – has been on America’s Got Talent TV Show. • Do you play a tuba, dance or juggle or do magic tricks or love to sing? – you can share your talent during the Wednesday night Talent Show and Open Mic contest at the Grandstand.
