Sometimes, life’s circumstances can feel overwhelming. The Living Room, located within Northwestern Medicine Ben Gordon Center, is a comfortable, calm, nonclinical space where DeKalb County residents age 18 and older can get help to resolve or better manage crises. No appointment is necessary.
You’ll be welcomed by a recovery support specialist who will listen to your concerns, and help you find options. If you need additional support, we can connect you with community resources for services such as housing, health care or food, or make appropriate referrals to other agencies to get the help you need.

FVCS to host wellness fair
April 18 in Sandwich
SANDWICH – The Fox Valley Community Services will host a Community Health and Wellness Fair for area older adults.

The fair will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at the Fox Valley Community Center, 1406 Suydam Road, Sandwich, according to a news release.
The fair is free and open to the public.
The event will feature 36 DeKalb, Kane, Kendall and LaSalle county organization vendors offering blood pressure and mental health screenings. A vaccination site will be held by Jewel Osco. The fair also will feature giveaways, door prizes and demonstrations.

FVCS serves older adults in DeKalb, Kane, Kendall and LaSalle counties in active adult activities at the senior center, adult day service and home services.
NIU Steelband to perform
April 8 at DeKalb library
DeKALB – The DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St., will host an after-hours concert featuring the Northern Illinois University Steelband at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 8, in the library’s main lobby.
The free concert is open to the public.
The program will include musical styles highlighting the versatility and profundity of the steelpan.
The doors to the library open at 6 p.m. No registration is required to attend.

Senior book club meeting April 11 at the DeKalb Library

DeKALB – The DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St., will host a seniors book club meeting at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, in the library’s Nancy D. Castle Collaboration Studio.
The book club is free and intended for adults.
The book club will read “Starry Messenger: Cosmic Perspectives on Civilization” by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. The book focuses on the fault lines of our time in a way that stimulates unity through Tyson’s perspective on civilization.
Books are available in the Adult Services department. No registration is required to attend.
