City of Spring Valley Quality of Life for City of Spring Valley residents and businesses remains a priority with City Officials. Steps to upgrade the city’s Comprehensive Plan are underway, which involved input from community stakeholders from all sectors. City sidewalk and road improvements continue to be a major focus utilizing video gaming and sales tax programs that have been established. Revitalizing the downtown commercial district will also take precedence. Creating a safe and attractive venue for businesses and consumers, along with a sense of place for the residents is a major goal. For more than 150 years, Dimond Bros. Insurance has been providing security and peace of mind for individuals, businesses and government entities. Founded in 1867 by Albert Dimond in Arcola, IL, our small agency of just two employees has grown to become one of the largest privately held insurance agencies in the United States. With over 300 employees serving 39 locations in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin, we have the ability to serve clients both big and small, from the corner grocery store to firsttime home buyers to national franchises. The value of being an independent insurance agency is having access to hundreds of carriers and meeting our customers’ needs by getting them the right products and coverage for the most competitive price. Dimond Bros. finds great pride in providing this service to our customers in a professional and friendly manner. Additionally, we know that insurance can be confusing and overwhelming, and it is our job to make the complex simple. Whether that’s sitting down at a kitchen table or speaking in a boardroom, we will always take the time to explain to our clients what is important to protect them. A New Lease on Life
Hips and knees are almost continually in motion, making them vital to performing daily tasks and movements. We often take the ability to walk with ease for granted. When joints degenerate due to osteoarthritis, the pain can be debilitating and it impacts every aspect of your life. However, you don’t have to suffer through that pain day in and day out. Dr. Paul Perona, MD, Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon at St. Margaret’s Health is advancing knee and hip replacements in the Illinois Valley with Stryker’s Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology. Medical technology and treatments are always evolving. Here at St. Margaret’s, we make continuing education a priority in order to bring you medically advanced treatments with increased precision and faster recovery. The robotic arm is a tool that gives surgeons a steady hand and enables greater precision and accuracy. Using this highly advanced and extremely accurate tool, Dr. Perona can perform the surgery with less peri-operative pain and quicker early recovery. This highly advanced robotic technology transforms the way joint replacement is performed. Through CT-based 3D modeling of bone anatomy, the implant size, orientation and alignment can be customized to the patient’s unique bone structure pre-op. Then, based on kinematic and soft tissue data that is collected intra-operatively, Dr. Perona can further customize and modify the surgical plan, if necessary. We all know someone that struggles through pain every day. Carole Haas struggled for years with pain. Here is her story: My name is Carole Haas. I am 81 years old. I was born and raised in Oglesby, though have lived in Peru for nearly fifty years. I graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria and am retired from IVCC where I was Director of Nursing Education. I had problems with my knees for about 5 years now. Under a different physician, I received cortisone injections, ortho-visc twice and participated in physical therapy. The treatments were working for a little while, but in 2018 those treatments offered no relief what-so-ever. I decided then that surgery was necessary. I first heard about the Mako procedure through an information session that Dr. Perona presented. I was impressed with the information I received and proceeded from there. My first surgery was August 15, 2018 on my left knee. The recovery was uneventful – little pain. With prescribed physical
therapy, my function was as good as ever. I could walk with no pain. Then, I realized how much my right knee hurt and limited my mobility. I decided to schedule the next surgery for June of 2019. Again, I felt my recovery was rapid. Within the first week, I was walking and post-operative pain was relieved with Tylenol. I am now eight weeks out and walking, doing stairs and able to perform household tasks. Most of all, I am able to shop without having pain or having to stop to rest. I would strongly recommend Dr. Perona and the Mako procedure. From talking to others who had the procedure
done manually, I feel I had less pain and a faster recovery. Now after physical therapy, I feel I am back to functioning at a level that I was able to 10 years ago. And no pain! Partial and total knee replacement and total hip replacement using the Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology is offered by Dr. Paul Perona, MD. Dr. Perona is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, as well as, Fellowship Trained in Adult Joint Reconstruction. If you would like to find out more about this procedure and see if you are a good candidate, call (815) 663-8009 for an appointment.
