Norberg Memorial Home Inc. & Monuments honored to serve
Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments has been honored to serve area families since 1903. Norberg’s is owned and operated by J.D. and Janice Smallwood. Norberg’s has been in the Smallwood family since 1956. J.D.’s father Bodie, partnered with the late Arthur Norberg, buying into the company in 1966 and eventually becoming sole owner. J.D. purchased the funeral home from Bodie in 2008. J.D. started working with Bodie in 1996 after graduating from Worsham Mortuary School in Wheeling, IL. He was able to work with his father for over 10 years, before Bodies’s passing in late 2008. Janice came on board in early 2018 after moving back home to Princeton. J.D. and Janice’s love story began at the Skate-A-Rama
in Princeton. In the late 70’s, Janice moved to South Carolina after her father took early retirement. She owned a bookkeeping company in South Carolina, Palmetto Bookkeeping Services, as well as sales and support for Peachtree Accounting Software and Quickbooks. She managed and maintained the

books for several large not for profit organizations including the South Carolina State Firefighters Association as well as USTA South Carolina. J.D. and Janice reconnected through a mutual friend after her husband’s passing. J.D. and Janice will soon be celebrating their five-year anniversary.
“Not only was J.D. my first love, but he will also be my last,” Janice said. “It’s one of the hardest jobs I’ve ever loved. It’s a true honor that people select us to care for their loved one during their time of need,” says J.D. and Janice. Norberg’s provides affordable funerals, cremations, burials, prearrangements, monuments and headstones as well as urns, vaults and a variety of memorial and customized jewelry. Spreading multiple products in one pass reduces man hours, field compaction and fuel consumption by reducing trips across the field. All these benefits add up to a higher rate of return on your investment.

Our job is to make sure that our clients always receive the best coverage for the best rates. We never want somebody to pay more than they have to. At the Nyman Insurance Agency, we will help you understand each part of Medicare, what each part does and what each part does not do. We can give you real-world advice to correctly get you the best coverage for less. We save clients thou-
sands of dollars a year on their insurance. We are also a full-servicing agency, which means we help you directly. No 1-800 numbers ever. Questions on bills? We have you covered there, too.
If you are looking for a company who has the experience and expertise to offer that personal touch, our agents are here to take care of your Medicare needs. Please choose Nyman Insurance, “the Medicare Ex-
perts.” We always offer free advice and quotes including prescription drug coverage quotes. We’re located at 15 W. Warren St. Ste 3., Princeton. To speak with one of our agents, please call (815) 878-2721.

Willard Mott named Compeer Financial’s GroundBreaker of the Year Nestled in a peaceful wooded grove in rural Bureau County, first-generation farmer Willard Mott and his wife Stacy have cultivated a successful farm from the ground up, raising corn, soybeans and hay on 100 acres. Willard also teaches at Illinois Valley Community College, where he’s been instrumental in developing the college’s agriculture program, all while starting a farm of his own. “As first-generation farmers, we didn’t have lots of equipment, land or resources,” Willard said. “For us, getting started was considering every opportunity that came our way – and getting good support from people
Willard Mott willing to give us a chance.” It also meant finding a financial partner, like Compeer Financial, who could
share in the Motts’ dreams. “Financially, it was nerve-wracking when we started farming,” Stacy said. “But we knew we had to step out of our comfort zones if we wanted to accomplish anything.” “Our relationship and experience with Compeer has been phenomenal,” Willard added. “Having that personal connection and relating to the person I’m working with is fantastic.” Earlier this year, Willard was announced as Compeer’s GroundBreaker of the Year, an award recognizing young and beginning farmers who are overcoming obstacles, making a difference in agriculture and having a positive
impact in the community. Stacy nominated Willard for his passion, dedication and tenacity in agriculture. “Willard is very motivated to do more,” Stacy explained. “From the moment he turned over the first shovel of dirt on our farm, he has epitomized what it means to be a GroundBreaker.” Adam King, the Motts’ financial officer at Compeer, added, “He truly embodies what the GroundBreaker of the Year Award is all about,” King said. “Willard lives, breathes and advocates for agriculture every single day.” Learn more about Compeer’s GroundBreaker of the Year Award at compeer.com/ groundbreakeroftheyear.

Republicans, Democrats and Independents Say “Yes” to Tom Kilbride for Illinois Supreme Court Tom Kilbride is an independent, common-sense judge proud to represent the people of the 3rd Judicial District. As a justice on the Illinois Supreme Court, he has devoted himself to ensuring average people get a fair shake. Tom believes the courts should work for everybody – not just the powerful and politically connected. Justice Kilbride has carved out a legacy that is notable in several aspects, including boosting public access to the court system, increasing transparency of court proceedings, and accelerating the court’s use of digital technology to improve public access and court efficiency.
An ardent supporter of more civility and civics education, Tom joined other judges to visit classrooms and service groups to talk about civics and the courts. He advocated for the creation of a supreme court commission on “Access to
TOM
INDEPENDENT • FAIR-MINDED

Justice,” to help increase access for all citizens to the court system. He supported the “JusticeCorps” initiative that trains volunteers to assist average citizens with civil legal matters when they can’t afford legal representation.
This year, Tom authored the majority opinion on a case that upheld barring child sex offenders from visiting public parks in Illinois. He has a strong record of protecting victims, supported common-sense standards to ensure innocent people aren’t executed and guilty verdicts aren’t senselessly overturned. The Illinois State Crime Commission honored Tom with its prestigious Award of Excellence in the Judiciary. This is just one of many awards Tom Kilbride has received as a member of the Illinois Supreme Court. Vote “Yes” to retain Tom Kilbride!
Vote for a Common-Sense Judge Trustworthy and Fair As an attorney for 20 years in Rock Island, Tom handled all kinds of litigation, representing common working men and women. Tom also served as attorney for the City of Silvis, Rock Island County Townships, Coal Valley Fire Protection District, and the Big Island Conservancy District. As your Illinois Supreme Court Justice, Tom upholds the law and protects you, your family and your rights - with justice for all.

Everything You Need to Know about St. Margaret’s Drive-Thru Testing Center The global pandemic has impacted us all in so many ways, that it is sometimes difficult to even remember what life was like before it changed the world forever. Though we often, and understandably, tend to fixate ourselves on the inconveniences and ramifications this terrible crisis has caused, there is at least a small sliver of good that managed to develop as a direct result of it. One positive impact COVID-19 has inevitably forced upon us was the need to do some things differently (and perhaps even better than before, in some cases). One of the more obvious and welcome impacts is that many more people in our world now better understand just how important seemingly small, protective measures are for preventing the spread of illnesses. Now more than ever, people realize why handwashing, disinfecting and sanitizing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when sick, among other actions, are necessary to keep others from becoming ill. These behaviors will hopefully continue to be practiced even after this pandemic has finally passed—helping to stop the spread of many other contagious illnesses aside from just COVID-19. It will be interesting to see what the new, post-pandemic normal
will look like when visiting a store, attending a concert, dining at a restaurant or even going to school or work. Only time will tell. Another positive aspect that formed because of the COVID-19 pandemic was the development of new innovations in healthcare. One such development was the need to expand and implement safer testing options that carry less exposure risk and can easily service higher volumes of patients. Thus, from this need was born the mobile testing sites that have popped up at healthcare institutions across the nation (including St. Margaret’s Health), and even across some other parts of the globe. These sites allow patients to be tested conveniently from the safety and comfort of their car. St. Margaret’s Mobile Testing Center, originally located in a yellow medical tent in the northeast corner of the North Parking Lot at St. Margaret’s Hospital, became so popular that we decided to give it a permanent location and expand the testing options that are offered. In August, we opened the St. Margaret’s Drive-Thru Testing Center, which is now located as a bricks and mortar location in the northwest corner of the North Parking Lot at St. Margaret’s Hospital.
The new building allows a patient to drive his or her vehicle into a garage bay from the back (north) side of the building. Once parked inside the bay, the patient should turn the vehicle off and gently honk its horn if our staff did not see the vehicle enter. One of our nurses staff members will greet you and perform the necessary test. In addition to COVID-19 testing, a variety of other tests are now offered as well for your convenience.
