UTICA Surrounded by Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park, the Illinois River, Starved Rock Lock and Dam Visitors Center and the Illinois and Michigan Canal, Utica is a destination for all seasons. Mendota prides its community’s hospitality as a reason why so many people from the surrounding area enjoy their annual events. One of those events, the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival, attracts thousands each August. The annual event features a parade, carnival, beer garden, free sweet corn cooked in a vintage steam engine and other events.
