e all know the Chain O’ Lakes region is a great locale to get away for the day, some weekend R&R or, if you’re lucky, maybe even the whole summer. Whatever the case and whatever your taste, your getaway plans will likely include the search for the perfect spot to sip a cocktail or mocktail, savor a glass of wine, down a draft or throw back a bottle. There are many fantastic options here for every manner of libation, including these 5:

Sunset Grill 25276 W. Grass Lake Road, Antioch 847-603-1441 www.sunsetgrillblufflake.com Best drinks on the Chain, locals say. This tropical restaurant at Lupa’s Marina, in Antioch, overlooks Bluff Lake and showcases some awesome sunsets. Check out the live music in a “fun and casual environment,” and lose your cares in a delicious cocktail at the outdoor tiki bar. Try a Milagro Margarita, Electric Lemonade, a classic Manhattan or a whole lot more to choose from. Boaters are welcome to disembark at the dock. Magic Moon Gaming and Wine Bar 2020 US-12, Spring Grove 815-581-0078 www.magicmoongaming.com With more than 30 wines to choose from, you’re sure to find the perfect one at Magic Moon. Buy a flight of four samples, “so you don’t have to buy a glass or bottle to taste some wine,” says co-owner Chicago Bob. Unwind at

the gaming room, and snag a flatbread pizza to munch on. Patrons say they love its relaxing vibe and the free education on the finer points of vino. Oak Park Lounge 801 Oak Grove Road, Johnsburg 815-385-9872 Facebook: Oak Park Lounge For that old-time neighborhood ambiance, check out Oak Park Lounge, located in a rustic 1890s former hotel. They promise a “great beer selection, great cocktails, wine” and the occasional live music and happy hour drinks in a “casual and cozy” atmosphere. “We’re located nicely on the water and we have outside seating,” says owner Tom Fuchs. “We’re a good old corner tavern.” Check out the annual fireworks show, slated for July 9.
