VanWiggeren to be keynote speaker for Chamber dinner David VanWiggeren will be the keynote speaker during the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner on Thursday, May 16, at Starved Rock Lodge. VanWiggeren is CEO of Drop Tank, a company that specializes in fuel and convenience store loyalty solutions. Drop Tank’s technology currently connects to over 4,000 gas stations in the United States, processing millions of loyalty transactions per year. With only 22 employees, Drop Tank was the recipient of Oracle’s 2018 Cloud Platform Innovation Award. The award recognized Drop Tank’s leadership in the use of some of Oracle’s most cutting-edge platform technologies. VanWiggeren grew up as a military brat throughout the U.S. and abroad, never living anywhere more than three years until attending college. That’s where he met Christina and began a relationship that God blessed with five children and brought him to Ottawa. David has a B.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management.

Thursday’s Chamber Annual Dinner theme “Being Bold” is extremely appropriate as it takes place, in the first time in 20 years, under new city leadership. The City and Chamber, since 1916, have been partners in Ottawa’s growth, never more so, in my opinion, than the last 20 years. This year and years beyond will require bold initiatives on both the Chamber and City’s part to continue the momentum. Your Chamber, as mentioned last year, is “a vital piece in the continual change and transformation that is taking place in our community.” Our new Ottawa Area Resource Guide “Ottawa, Illinois TODAY! Getting to know 61350” and the 2019 Ottawa Economic Development Opportunities and Priorities-Update/Action Plan prepared by Reed Wilson, Dave Noble and myself present a “Bold” outline for the future. Since Ottawa’s founding over 100 years ago, solid foundations and visions for the future had been laid and it is up to the next generation of leaders to take these foundations and visions to the next level.

Be on the lookout for Chamber’s Ambassadors CHANEL RENKOSIK Ambassador President Be BOLD. The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce’s theme for the 103rd Annual Dinner is exactly that. On May 16, Chamber members will join together to honor annual award winners, catch up with the happenings of our Chamber, and hear from keynote speaker — Mr. David VanWiggeren — on making bold decisions. This is a very important night to celebrate all that our community and Chamber has come together to accomplish in the past year, and set the precedent for the future. As guests arrive for the evening, you will be greeted with a handshake and a friendly smile from Chamber Ambassadors. The Ottawa Area Chamber Ambassadors are 20 volunteers from an assortment of Chamber member businesses, who collectively make up the Chamber’s public relations team. The 20 Ambassadors represent community members from a wide spectrum of businesses such as finance, travel, real estate, hospitality, sales, marketing, legal, and community planning to name a few. Each Ambassador is bold in their own right! They are spirited to be part of a positive organization that represents our Chamber, and dauntless in their responsibility to be the hand that connects community members and businesses to the many opportunities offered within the Chamber. Ambassadors are active and visible in our community year-round by representing the Chamber at ribbon cuttings or grand opening ceremonies, business after hours, and other Chamber events such as the Annual Dinner, State of the City, and Welcomeburger.

While volunteering at special events and visiting current and potential Chamber members, Ambassadors stand out by collectively wearing our Ambassador “uniform.” Many members in our community recognize Ambassadors by their green jacket. These uniforms often times are described as BOLD and hard to miss at events, keeping Ambassadors approachable as they are easy to distinguish. Prior to the current green jackets, Ambassadors represented the Chamber while wearing a similar, but gold jacket. Ambassadors proudly wear their green jackets after Labor Day during colder months, and trade them in for green polo shirts during warmer months. Regardless of the season and which style of green Ambassadors are wearing, they share the same eagerness to represent the Chamber. The next time you are out
in our community – shopping at the many unique small businesses, enjoying a festival in our downtown district, or networking at a Chamber event, be on the lookout for one of the Ambassadors. Whether we are in our green jacket or polo, we would be happy to share our

Be BOLD. The 2019 theme for the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce harkens back to the organization’s founding in 1916 when local business and community members focused on“working together for one patriotic purpose of the town’s advancement.” Advancing our community is at the core of the Chamber’s existence and by creating a plan to drive toward a BOLD future of prosperity, we commit to identifying ambitious goals and creating innovative plans to achieve them. The Ottawa Chamber has taken BOLD steps to connect our big picture mission to everything we do. Whether we are advocating for your business, planning a networking event, or attracting a new business to the community through our economic development work, we attack every part of our work with a BOLD commitment to succeed. (Chamber Mission: The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry is a dynamic business organization working to advance the economic and civic interests of the Ottawa Area. We serve our members as an action agency, information clearing house, a business counselor, a government liaison, and a center for research and promotion of the Ottawa business community.) We thank our many community residents and businesses who have already taken the BOLD step of being a Chamber member. However, being a member is more than simply paying the annual dues. Being a BOLD, committed chamber member that realizes the benefits of chamber membership requires an investment of time, effort and involvement in Chamber activities. Simply stated, what you get out of a Chamber membership is a direct result of what you put in. If you are contemplating an Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce membership, I encourage you to read my top seven benefits of memberships below, be BOLD and join today. Membership builds BOLD Relationships. You will have the opportunity to interact with all types of people as you attend events, serve on committees and interact with people outside your normal routines.
