Christopher Bell hunts for his second win of the year in Talladega

The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series continues as drivers get set for one of the most action-packed races of the year, as the 47th annual Geico 500 roars into action Sunday, April 21, at Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama, with all the action broadcast live on Fox.

In what’s been one of the most competitive seasons in years, the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series has been nothing short of exhilarating, having produced three different points standings leaders in the first three races of the season for the first time since 2017.

Amid a highly competitive season, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell looks to have found his groove once again, holding a top-10 position among all drivers. Coming off a great month in March, Bell helped earn Toyota’s first win of the season at the 2024 Shriners Children’s 500, including putting himself firmly back in the playoff hunt.

Having earned all seven of his career victories on different tracks, The Baby-Faced Assassin will look for some of that good luck to rub off this weekend as he’ll be facing tough competition against last year’s winner, Kyle Busch, after he managed to pull off a wild victory on the heels of Bubba Wallace Jr. and Ryan Blaney crashing in a battle for first place.

Following their on-track dust-up at Circuit of the Americas earlier this year, there will be no shortage of bad blood between the two, despite both drivers claiming to have put their crash behind them, with Busch potentially bringing a different approach when racing against Bell.

“Run him harder for a little bit until he concedes that he’s sorry on the race track,” Busch said, speaking with NASCAR.com. “And then get back to normal.”

Creative states: Tour America with homegrown artists in ‘The Express Way’

From sea to shining sea, Americans express their creativity, and the new, fourpart documentary series “The Express Way With Dulé Hill,” premiering Tuesday, April 23, on PBS, looks at the ways self-expression and creativity are intertwined. Featuring artists from four different corners of the United States — in California, the Appalachian region, Texas and Chicago — “The Express Way” looks at the ways these individuals use art to make connections within and outside of their communities and how they use their artwork to challenge views and blaze a trail for others to follow in the future.

Best known by most for his portrayal of Gus in eight seasons in the detective sitcom “Psych,” which he also reprised for three spinoff films, Hill, a real TV veteran, has also had starring roles in “The West Wing,” “Ballers,” “Suits” and more recently, the ABC sitcom “The Wonder Years.”

Now, turning his attention to the artistic pursuits of others, PBS shared in a news release that Hill traveled across America “to connect with local visionaries, activists, changemakers and pioneers who are using

their artistic passions to foster connection, deepen empathy and create meaningful change within their communities.”

“There are many people in this world who create space out of nothing. They are the ones turning on the light, setting the path and then guiding others along the journey,” Hill shared about the series in the release.

Shaheem Sanchez, known for his performance in the 2019 film “Sound of Metal,” is a deaf dancer based in Los Angeles. Hill meets with Sanchez in the first episode of “The Express Way,” connecting over a shared passion for dance before getting to know other artists across California.

Also featured in the California stop of “The Express Way” is a group of senior citizens who call themselves the Grant Street Follies, a committed activists and cabaret performers in San Francisco who use their art to combat anti-Asian hate and celebrate the city’s historic Chinatown. Finally, Hill meets trailblazing musicians in Los Angeles’s own Mariachi Arcoiris, the world’s first LGBTQ+ mariachi group.

Visiting the Appalachian region, Hill gets a thorough musical education. In Kentucky, he meets first with Doug Naselroad, the founder and director of Troublesome Creek Stringed Instrument Company. His program, The Culture of Recovery, teaches people to make stringed instruments as an assistive outlet while they recover from opioid addiction. In Johnson City, Tennessee, Grammy-nominated bluegrass musician Amythyst Kiah (“Black Myself”) teaches Hill about the history of Black artists in traditional American music. The founder of “Latin-grass,” musician Joe Troop (“Red, White & Blues”), shares how he fused folk music with bluegrass instrumentation and continues to innovate with his latest collaboration with Venezuelan musician Larry Bellorin (“Caballo Viejo”).

Q: I’ve enjoyed seeing Charlotte Sullivan on “FBI” lately. Wasn’t she on “Chicago Fire” for a while?

A: She was. She previously worked for CBS “FBI” executive producer Dick Wolf in his NBC firefighter drama as a recurring guest star during a sizable portion of Season 5, playing Anna Turner, a pediatric nurse who became romantically involved with Lt. Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). Anna had leukemia, and Kelly volunteered to donate bone marrow to her. The situation had a sad ending, but a hospital wing now bears Anna’s name.

The “FBI” gig marked a reunion for Sullivan not only with Wolf, but also with Missy Peregrym, who played Officer Andy McNally to Sullivan’s Officer Gail Peck in the Canadian-made 2010-15 ABC and Global police drama “Rookie Blue.” Peck was a reliably testy public servant whose attitude wasn’t helped by her unfortunate track record of relationships, some of which were with her police partners.

Toronto-born Sullivan has stayed quite active since her “Rookie Blue” days, also having recurring roles in the Global and Lifetime series “Mary Kills People” (for which the executive producer was Tassie Cameron, also one of the makers of “Rookie Blue”) and in NBC’s “Law & Order: Organized Crime” (another Dick Wolf production). She also has appeared in “Frankie Drake Mysteries,” “Hudson & Rex,” “Wynonna Earp,” “Coroner,” “So Help Me Todd’’ and Cameron’s “Pretty Hard Cases,” and she was the female lead in the cable movies “12 Pups of Christmas” and “Two for the Win.” Her theatrical films have included Mandy Moore’s “How to Deal” and Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon’s “Fever Pitch.”

Q: I loved the actress who played Mallory on “Heartland,” and was so sad when she left. Where can I see her now?

A: My first piece of advice would be to keep watching “Heartland.” Not just because it’s a great show and a landmark of Canadian television, but because Jessica Amlee still pops up now and again.

Indeed, her character, Mallory, has been an irregular part of the show for years now, ever since the end of Season 6 (“Heartland” just aired its 17th season on CBC in Canada, though

that season has yet to air in the U.S.). She’s left and come back numerous times since then.

Amlee has made the most of those absences, bouncing between film and TV roles.

That year she also started filming the feature-length indie thriller “The Runner.” However, it wasn’t released until 2021, when it did the film festival circuit and raked in piles of awards. Like I said at the outset, despite all this activity, Amlee’s never been far from the “Heartland” set — she’s turned up again for episodes twice in just the last couple of years.

Q: What’s Jeffrey Donovan doing now that he’s left “Law & Order”?

A: The short answer is, we don’t know.

The long answer is also “we don’t know,” but it adds the fact that Jeffrey Donovan (previously of “Burn Notice” fame) always seems to land on his feet.

It was announced late last year that Donovan’s character, Frank Cosgrove, would not be returning for “Law & Order’s” whopping 23rd season. This happened in the off-season, so when the season premiere aired in January, his character was written off with just a couple of lines about him being “too honest” for a job on the force. With that, the show moved on.

Donovan has presumably moved on as well, but he hasn’t announced what he’s moved on to just yet.

But as I said, it’s likely just a matter of time.

For example, two whole years went by between the end of his star-making series “Burn Notice” and his next big project. And in that case, there were two big projects: in 2015, he had a lead role in the big-screen hit “Sicario” and a villain role in the star-studded second season of the FX series “Fargo.”

Other, incredibly diverse roles followed before he took the full-time gig on “Law & Order” in 2022. So it’s clear Hollywood will find something to do with him soon enough.

Hot, heavy and humid as ever, the fan-favorite spinoff “90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise” returns for its fourth season Monday, April 22, on TLC.

Following as “hopeful romantic” Americans test the waters and give international love a chance at sparking something long-term, this batch of episodes will see four all-new couples explore their relationships around the world, with U.S. citizens traveling to Italy, Malta, Brazil and Colombia.

Ahead of the season’s premiere, TLC released the names (and a brief description) of each couple that will be featured this time around, introducing viewers to a cast of eight that’s sure to lead to some explosive drama — and, for one man, potentially his 81st child.

That’s right: 32-year-old Kyle, an L.A. native and one of Season 4’s hopefuls, works as an accountant by day and a “donation dad” at night, with his excessive sperm donation resulting in 71 children, with another nine currently on the way.

Kyle met Anika, 39, a single mother living in Malta, when she found Kyle’s donation information online and booked a consultation. After feeling a spark between them, however, their relationship progressed from “donating to dating,” as TLC describes, and cameras now follow Kyle as he travels to the gorgeous archipelago Anika resides on. With recipients hoping to shed hundreds of pounds and practice healthier lifestyles after surgery, this spin-off takes a look back at past cases to see what changes have (or have not) taken place since then. TLC went on to share a taste of the drama to come for one of the aforementioned couples, explaining: “After experiencing a hiccup with his money, Luke realizes that he can’t support his girlfriend’s lavish lifestyle, leading to some big blowouts between the two — including one after Madelein was topless in the bed with another man.”

Equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking, Season 4 of “90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise” begins Monday, April 22, on TLC.
