The 2024 NHL Entry Draft set to kick off at the Las Vegas Sphere

The 2024 NHL Entry Draft is fast approaching, with the highly anticipated event set to take place at the Las Vegas Sphere, June 2829 in Paradise, Nevada, with the spotlight on none other than Macklin Celebrini, who is widely regarded as the top prospect at this year’s draft. Catch all of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft live on ESPN. Expected by many to go first overall in the draft, Macklin Celebrini is a dynamic center from Boston University. As a freshman, Celebrini racked up 64 points (32 goals, 32 assists) in just 37 games, showcasing a complete 200-foot game that ultimately led to his nomination for the Hobey Baker Award (which he won). But, more importantly, these impressive stats leds to Celebrini securing his position as the top candidate to be the No. 1 overall pick. Proving his ability to control the game on both ends of the ice, Celebrini has the star power to make him a franchise-altering prospect.

Beyond Celebrini, the draft class is teeming with diverse talent. Other notable names include offensive defenseman Zayne Parekh of the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit (projected fifth overall); Cayden Lindstrom of the WHL’s Medicine Hat Tigers, a highly touted center with excellent offensive awareness and skill set (projected third overall); and Artyom Levshunov, a freshman defenseman at Michigan State, who has caught attention from teams for his ability to play a complete game and with the skills to play in all situations (projected second overall).

A third helping: ‘The Bear’ returns with Michelin-star dreams

Yes, Chef! One of the biggest dramedy hits of the ‘20s so far, FX’s “The Bear,” returns with its highly anticipated third season, streaming Thursday, June 27, on Hulu, with all 10 episodes of the fresh new season served up at once on premiere day. The titular restaurant reopens as a fine dining establishment this season, and Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White, “Shameless”), Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri, “Bottoms,” 2023) and Richie Jerimovich (Ebon MossBachrach, “NOS4A2”) are under a mountain of stress trying to make it all work.

Members of the main cast returning this season are Abby Elliott (“Odd Mom Out”) as co-owner of The Bear and Carmy’s sister, Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto; Lionel Boyce (“Hap and Leonard”) as pastry chef Marcus Brooks; Liza Colon-Zayas (“IF,” 2024) as line cook Tina Marrero; and Matty Matheson (“It’s Suppertime!”) as The Bear’s handyman, Neil Fak. The heat is on for The Bear — formerly known as The Beef — to make its mark on Chicago’s culinary scene and start turning a profit, but last season’s finale left one very important member of the kitchen in the cold. Plagued by stress-induced panic attacks while the team prepared tirelessly for the grand opening, Carmy found himself locked in the walk-in fridge during the restaurant’s family and friends soft opening service. Trapped unintentionally in the frozen cell, Carmy faced everything that led him to leave the fridge door handle repair task unchecked on his to-do list.

The all-important fine dining kitchen education that the staff of The Beef gained before their restaurant became The Bear was put to use while Carmy was incapacitated. Richie, having spent some time working his way up from polishing forks to understanding floor management and elite customer service in one of the Windy City’s finest restaurants, stepped up and called out orders while Sydney got her hands dirty on the line. In five crucial minutes, the team pulled it off and service returned to its normal chaotic pace.

In the official trailer for the upcoming season of “The Bear,” it’s all about non-negotiables. Carmy butts heads against everyone else, it seems, in his pursuit of perfection and a new dream of a Michelin star. Q: It’s nice to see Ed O’Neill working regularly again in “Clipped.” Didn’t he do another series in-between “Married … With Children” and “Modern Family”?

A: In fact, the actor – who currently plays Donald Sterling, the owner of basketball’s Los Angeles Clippers, in the FX-produced Hulu series – was a regular on several series during that period. Though NBC’s 2000 fantasy “The 10th Kingdom” technically was a miniseries, O’Neill played the Troll King in it over the course of nine episodes.

More traditional was the 2001 police drama “Big Apple,” which CBS aired for just over a month in 2001, with two of the eight produced episodes not televised (though they were included in a DVD set later.) The cast also included someone who would have much greater success with another New York-set CBS police drama afterward, “Blue Bloods” co-star Donnie Wahlberg.

O’Neill didn’t stay away from cop shows long, since his next series was ABC’s “L.A. Dragnet” (2003-04), executive producer Dick Wolf’s (“Law & Order”) take on the classic “Dragnet” show that had a couple of earlier TV incarnations under creator and star Jack Webb. O’Neill assumed Webb’s role as police detective Joe Friday (promoted to the rank of lieutenant), and another cast member was Eva Longoria, soon before “Desperate Housewives” came to be.

While O’Neill had a recurring role as a governor on NBC’s “The West Wing” after that, his other major series pre-”Modern Family” was HBO’s “John From Cincinnati’’ (2007), a single-season drama about California surfers. His character in that show still had police ties, since he was a retired cop; Austin Nichols played the titular John in a cast that also included Bruce Greenwood, Rebecca De Mornay, Luke Perry and Jennifer Grey.

Q: Is John Krasinksi coming back with more “Jack Ryan”? And can we agree at this point that he’s the best Jack Ryan?

A: Unfortunately, there will be no more of the “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” series on Prime Video. I don’t know if that factors into your calculations about who the best Jack is, but it’s still very much up for debate.

The fourth season of the series, released last summer on Prime, was its last. That’s tough for fans, certainly, but a four-season run at least puts John Krasinski (“The Office”) in competition as the best actor to play the beloved literary character.

And that’s saying a lot considering who he’s up against.

“Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal” - Season 3 (June 26) is spin-o of “Paranormal State” spotlights kids who show signs of possessing psychic gifts. Medium Chip Co ey and psychologist Lisa Miller join forces to help these gifted children accept their gifts and meet others like themselves.

Ryan, the most famous creation of mega-selling author Tom Clancy, was first put on film in 1990, with Alec Baldwin (“30 Rock”) playing him in the Cold War-themed hit “The Hunt for Red October.”

Two years later, Baldwin was out and Harrison Ford (“Raiders of the Lost Ark,” 1981) was in for 1992’s “Patriot Games,” which put Ryan at the center of the conflict in Northern Ireland. Ford returned again two years later for “Clear and Present Danger.”

Eight years went by before Ben Affleck (“Armageddon,” 1998) rebooted the character in 2002’s “The Sum of All Fears.”

Then Chris Pine (“Star Trek,” 2009) tried him on for size in 2014’s “Jack Ryan: Shadow

Recruit,” again returning to the character’s origin story.

In terms of financial success, it’s hard to pit films against TV shows. The films were all blockbusters — even the poorly received “Shadow Recruit” earned over $100 million at the box office. But Krasinski’s show was a hit as well, earning millions of views for Prime.

It’s fair to say that Ryan was always intended to be a franchise character — Clancy wrote 17 Ryan novels, and all of the films seemed at least open to the idea of launching franchises. But only Ford came back for a second one. So in that sense, Krasinski is indeed the most successful Jack Ryan, since he successfully brought the character back three times.

Q: Why haven’t I seen Patricia Richardson in a while? Is she still working?

A: There are a couple of reasons why Patricia Richardson, who played the mom, Jill, in “Home Improvement” from 1991 to 1999, has seemed scarce since.

Partly, it’s because she’s given an increasing amount of time to her off-screen work with the SAG-AFTRA actors’ union. But mostly it’s just about knowing where to look.

She’s done some guest spots on big series over the last few years, such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Last Man Standing” (reuniting her with her “Home Improvement” co-star, Tim Allen). But the most time-consuming role she’s taken on recently hasn’t been on broadcast or even on streaming. Lately, she’s been busy playing Maddie Hall in all three “County Line” movies so far, which aired on the lesser-known INSP cable channel.

INSP offers largely western-themed programming and aims to be a channel the family can watch together. It created the “County Line” movies to suit that goal, and you can see it in the cast: they star Tom Wopat, of the classic western show “The Dukes of Hazzard,” and Richardson, an icon of family TV thanks to “Home Improvement.”

As I said, there have been three so far — 2017’s “County Line” and 2022’s “County Line: All In” and “No Fear.” There’s no word yet on more, but INSP is clearly devoted to the series.

Talent goes on: Celine Dion’s journey with SPS detailed

in new documentary

Directed by Academy Award nominee Irene Taylor (“Trees, and Other Entanglements,” 2023) the all-new documentary “I Am: Celine Dion” premieres Tuesday, June 25, on Prime Video.

Offering viewers a “snapshot of a pivotal time in the life and career of one of the most recognized, respected and successful performers in pop music history, Celine Dion,” says the star’s website, celinedion. com, this feature serves as a detailed love letter to Dion’s fans, showcasing the singer’s never-ending resilience while adapting to a life-altering illness.

According to Amazon MGM Studios — the force behind Taylor’s feature — the film “takes viewers on a journey inside Celine’s past and present as she reveals her battle with stiff person syndrome (SPS) and the lengths she has gone to continue performing for her beloved and loyal fans.”

They continue: “From visiting her couture touring wardrobe and personal effects to spending time in the recording studio, the documentary captures a global megastar’s never-before-seen private life. An emotional, energetic and poetic love letter to music, ‘I Am: Celine Dion’ captures more
