He encounters a ghost town, where he meets a series of mysterious people and learns about his dead father’s ruthless quest for wealth and power.

Steelers take on the struggling Giants in Week 8 Monday Night matchup

A new week of NFL continues with another thrilling Monday night matchup. The New York Giants visit the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium Monday, Oct. 28, with all the action airing live on ESPN.

It’s been a drama-filled season so far for the Steelers, as they cooled off quite a bit after starting the season 3-0. Head coach Mike Tomlin, it seems, has been continuously grappling with who to start at the quarterback position — Russell Wilson or Justin Fields.

Following their loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4, that narrative has only grown louder, with the former first-round draft pick (Fields) having his worst game of the year — completing just 15 of 27 passes for 131 yards, while Wilson continues to watch from the sidelines.

While Fields has shown glimpses of what the Steelers could be, throwing for 961 yards

Height/weight: 6-3/227

pounds

and five touchdowns in 2024, the Steelers offensive game has remained largely inconsistent for the majority of the year, with the team averaging only 18 points per game and a struggling offensive line.

Meanwhile, the Giants have also had their fair share of struggles, beginning the season with a two-game losing streak. However, despite the slow start, the Giants aren’t facing the same quarterback uncertainty, with Daniel Jones anchoring the position. So far, Jones has thrown for 1,138 yards, tossed six touchdowns and been intercepted just three times.

With the Giants defense allowing only 20.8 points per game, look for both teams to establish a strong offensive game early. But with Pittsburgh’s continued quarterback dilemma, this Week 8 matchup will give the Giants a slight edge, as they look to further exploit the Steelers quarterback instability.

Second in command: ‘The West Wing’ alum joins new season of ‘The Diplomat’

This conspiracy goes all the way to the top. The political thriller “The Diplomat” is back for a second season on Netflix Thursday, Oct. 31, with Keri Russell (“The Americans”) returning as American ambassador to the United Kingdom, Kate Wyler. This season, Kate struggles with the realization that the British government was behind a deadly bombing of one of its own ships in the Persian Gulf — the attack that led to her reassignment in the series premiere.

Burdened by the knowledge of possible treason, Kate fights to find the truth and prove who ordered the strike. But in a world like Kate’s where information is currency, who can she trust? The ambassador is never truly alone, and as evidenced by the events of the first season, even her most personal secrets become public knowledge without ever having to spill them herself.

stars

Also returning this season are David Gyasi (“Carnival Row”) as U.K. foreign secretary Austin Dennison; Ali Ahn (“Agatha All Along”) as CIA station chief Eidra Park; Ato Essandoh (“Chicago Med”) as Stuart Heyford, deputy chief of mission of the U.S. embassy; Celia Imrie (“Better Things”) as campaign manager Margaret Roylin; Rory Kinnear (“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”) as Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge and Miguel Sandoval (“Sugar”) as Secretary of State Miguel Ganon.

A career diplomat, Kate proved to be an unpolished gem in the more forward-facing role as ambassador to the U.K. during the first season of “The Diplomat.” Though she arrived ready to work, Kate quickly learned that there was more to her reassignment than what was on the surface.

President William Rayburn (Michael McKean, “Better Call Saul”) and his chief of staff, Billie Appiah (Nana Mensah, “Presumed Innocent”), sprung the more public position on the very no-frills Kate as a means of vetting her for the soon-tobe-vacated VP seat. Now caught up on the plan, Kate faces down Vice President Grace Penn, portrayed by new cast member Allison Janney (“Palm Royale”), who is not about to back down.

Debora Cahn (“Grey’s Anatomy”), creator of “The Diplomat,” shared with Tudum a bit about her fellow “The West Wing” alum, Janney’s, role in the new season saying, “the VP thinks Kate’s after her job ... and she’s not entirely wrong. Kate thinks she understands the VP. She is mistaken.” After getting the lay of the land on the other side of the pond, Kate is more ready than ever for a fight — whether it’s for the title of VP or holding a government responsible for murders it tried to pin on other nations.

Though Sam (Bridget Everett) may appear to be a true Kansan on the surface, she has always struggled to fit in with her hometown. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam’s saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don’t fit in but don’t give up, showing that finding your people — and finding your voice — is possible. In Season 3 of “Somebody Somewhere,” premiering Sunday, Oct. 27, on HBO and Max, we see growth against all odds. Stan Smith (Seth MacFarlane) is the patriarch of the ultimate all-American family. As the intense father fails to separate his work at the CIA from his home life, he pulls his family into all kinds of mayhem in search for the American dream. Premiering its 19th season Monday, Oct. 28, on TBS, the long-running animated sitcom “American Dad” brings back more machismo-driven shenanigans. Jerry O’Connell OF THE TALK ON CBS

Q: How did Jerry O’Connell get the hosting job when Julie Chen Moonves was absent from “Big Brother” recently?

A: A combination of factors played into it, one of the biggest being O’Connell’s quick availability for the CBS show when a substitute was needed for Chen Moonves since she was continuing to test positive for COVID. She called in to that day’s edition of “The Talk,” the weekday CBS program of which she used to be a co-host (and of which O’Connell currently is), giving him pointers on how to handle the “Big Brother” job.

The episode involved a live eviction, the first time Chen Moonves had missed such a show, and it was fortunate that O’Connell is an avowed “Big Brother” fan. That surely gave him a leg up on who the players were and what the household dynamics were, so he already had done much of his homework in a sense when he was enlisted for

the fill-in spot mere hours before the episode aired.

While “The Talk” – which now is in its final season, slated to be over by the end of this year – and the syndicated game show “Pictionary” have been the main examples of O’Connell (also known for many performances as an actor) as a host lately, he has filled that function a number of times. Along with wife Rebecca Romijn, he had a brief stint hosting the CBS series “The Real Love Boat” in 2022, he was a guest host of the syndicated “Wendy Williams Show” several times, and he had his own syndicated talk show titled “Jerry O’” for a short time in the summer of 2019.

Aidy Bryant

Q: Why did Aidy Bryant leave “Saturday Night Live”?

A: The question of why someone leaves long-running comedy showcase “Saturday Night Live” is a tricky one. Occasionally, they will leave because they get a big offer of a movie or something, but it seems more often that people just leave because of a vague feeling that it’s time.

That was the case for Aidy Bryant (“Human Resources”), who was on the show for 10 years, from 2012 to 2022.

“If it weren’t for COVID, I probably would have left a few years earlier,” she told Variety magazine in 2022. “I kept trying to seek one last normal year. This year wasn’t

A spino of the hit, early 2000s Disney Channel Original series “Wizards of Waverly Place,” this new family sitcom sees Justin Russo (David Henrie) grown up and having given up magic to lead a normal life with his wife, Giada (Mimi Gianopulos, “Rutherford Falls”), and kids Roman (Alkaio iele) and Milo (Max Matenko). But, Justin’s normal life is thrown back into classic Russo chaos when his sister Alex (Selena Gomez) comes asking for help with a young witch named Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) in need of mentoring in tow.

OF SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE ON NBC

the normal year that I hoped for, but it was closer to that. It was like, ‘OK, it’s really time now.’ And 10 felt like a nice, solid round number.”

One of the other things that made her final years less than normal was the fact that she was simultaneously producing and starring in her own Hulu series, “Shrill.”

She did so with “SNL” producer Lorne Michaels’s blessing, but it took a toll.

“Those years, it wasn’t uncommon for me to work a 12-hour day on ‘Shrill’ and then continue to work all day at ‘SNL’ — and all night! So it would be a 22-hour day. I can’t do that anymore.”

“Shrill” ended in 2021 after three seasons, but Bryant already has two more shows in development.

One of them, “Cheeky,” is a passion project that takes a fun and funny look at the human body. Based on a book of the same name by Ariella Elovic, Bryant has been trying to get this made into a series for a while now.

Meanwhile, she’s also developing a comedy series for Peacock called “Lonely Hearts Club,” about a woman who falls in love with a con man.

It’s “based on a real crime that happened in the ‘40s,” she told The Hollywood Reporter, “so that’s been really fun to write. It’s an odd tone, kind of scary but funny.”

Q: I miss Jackson West in “The Rookie.” What’s the actor doing now?

A: Titus Makin Jr. (“Star-Crossed”) left “The Rookie” in 2021, after three seasons of playing Jackson West, one of the main group of young cops in the show’s early days. Most actors would just start looking for another full-time gig right off the bat, but Makin has taken a slightly different route. He’s still taking acting roles when they come his way, but at the same time he’s also building an alter-ego as an R&B singer named Erly.

In a way, of course, it’s all acting. You’ll believe that once you see some of Erly’s music videos, which feature him dancing with teddy bears and dressed in old-timey formal wear — if anything, his musical work is more theatrical than his screen work. For example, since leaving “The Rookie,” he appeared in another procedural cop show (a one-off appearance in the first season of “NCIS: Hawai’i”) and starred in the feature-length film “Sins of the Bride,” a relatively straightforward romantic thriller. To give you a sense of where his focus is now, he’s yet to announce his next acting role, while his Instagram (@titusmakin) is mostly devoted to promoting his musical work. So you’d do better to keep an ear out for him than an eye.

Buy or bye-bye: Inventors

pitch to Amazon executives in all-new competition series

From pitch to Prime, see budding entrepreneurs shine when the first three episodes of the all-new series “Buy It Now” debuts Wednesday, Oct. 30, on Prime Video.

The better the product, the faster you buy it. Hosted by comedian J.B. Smoove (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), this brand-new business competition allows entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their product directly to an audience of potential customers, giving consumers the power to choose whether or not the product moves on to the next stage — being appraised by a panel of Amazon executives and celebrity entrepreneurs. Every episode, one lucky inventor will be awarded $20,000 and the opportunity to have their product placed in Amazon’s exclusive Buy It Now Store.

Before bumping elbows with the likes of Jamie Siminoff, founder of Ring doorbells, entrepreneurs must first satisfy an audience of their potential customers, called The 100. With only 90 seconds on the clock, they must explain their product and its uses, convincing the public that it would be a worthwhile purchase. If they fail, the game is over. If The 100 likes their idea, however, it’s on to Round 2.

Appearing in front of a star-studded panel of celebrities — including Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow (“Shakespeare in Love,” 1998); Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”), creator of AC Barbeque; Tabitha Brown (“For the Love of Jason”) of Donna’s Recipe; pro skater and pro businessman Tony Hawk (“The Real Bros of Simi Valley: The Movie,” 2024); and tastemaker Christian Siriano (“Project Runway”) — and their latest co-workers, some of Amazon’s most powerful executives, the entrepreneurs must then plead their case to the “big dogs,” hoping for their staunch approval, a life-changing investment and a spot in Amazon’s titular store.
