“Dune Prophecy” - Season 1 (Max — Nov. 17, Series Premiere)
From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, this new series is set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet). Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, this drama series is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, Paulina Chavez, and Demi Moore star.

NBA in-season tournament matchup: The Spurs take on the Lakers
In an NBA in-season tournament group play matchup, Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs
host LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers Friday, Nov. 15, at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. The game broadcasts live on ESPN.
Coming off an incredible rookie season, rising star Victor Wembanyama was not only 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year — averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.6 blocks — but he also led France’s men’s basketball team to a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics this past summer. Currently, the French phenom is poised to take another

major step in his development at both ends of the court.
With the Spurs also adding veteran point guard Chris Paul to the roster this off-season, Wembanyama has even more room to elevate his game, particularly in pick-and-roll situations, opening up “The Alien” for better shots down the stretch.
Meanwhile, Lakers all-star LeBron James continues to defy Father Time, averaging 27.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game last season while his teammate, Anthony Davis, dominated the paint with an average 12.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game.
Now, the Lakers will be looking to make their mark early, using the undeniable chemistry between James and Davis to exploit the Spurs’ lack of experience and physicality. However, the Spurs have youthful energy and pace on their side, and with Victor Wembanyama expected to be a force on both ends of the floor, fans can expect fireworks from star to finish.

Checking in: NBC introduces new hospital comedy ‘St. Denis Medical’
A new hospital is about to open for patients — and for viewers.
Once the home of the hit series “Scrubs,” NBC gets back into the business of hospital comedies with “St. Denis Medical,” premiering on the nework and streaming on Peacock Tuesday, Nov. 12. Using a cinema verite style, the show takes the form of a mockumentary about an Oregon facility struggling with many of the problems so many hospitals are facing — particularly when it comes to shortages of staff and funding.
If the show’s approach seems similar to former NBC projects “Superstore” and “American Auto,” there’s a good reason: it was created by two of the same producers from those series, Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin.
The ensemble cast of “St. Denis Medical” includes Wendi McLendon-Covey (“The Goldbergs”) as the site’s ex-surgeon exec-
utive director, Tony Award winner David Alan Grier (“In Living Color”) as an emergency department doctor and Allison Tolman (“Fargo”) as a supervising nurse. Also featured are Josh Lawson (“House of Lies”), Mekki Leeper (“Jury Duty”), Kahyun Kim (“Cocaine Bear,” 2023) and “Superstore” alum Kaliko Kauahi.
For McLendon-Covey, who also went the mockumentary route in Comedy Central’s “Reno 911!,” that strategy fits what she desired in and from a series after playing family matriarch Beverly Goldberg for a decade in ABC’s “The Goldbergs.”
“All I wanted was to not play another mom right away,” she says. “I think it’s well documented that I can play moms, and with respect to all moms everywhere, what I loved about this character is that she is not nurturing at all. Don’t come near her wanting a hug.
“She does not want your germs, and she cannot keep a plant alive, but she is devoted to this hospital. That’s her baby, and this is her whole personality. The fact that this came along right at the tail end of ‘The Goldbergs,’ I’m the luckiest person in the world. I was not being strategic necessarily. I just knew I didn’t want to be [playing someone] in the ‘80s again, and this was just such a gift.”
Fellow “St. Denis Medical” star Grier maintains that he was also reasonably flexible in returning to series work. “My goal is always to say ‘Yes’ to a good script,” he reasons. “It just happened that I was [going to play] a doctor. There are some characters that you read and you think, ‘I can reach that or get to that.’ This guy, he’s an old curmudgeon. That’s me. It wasn’t the medical stuff; that was incidental. I just responded to the script, and — and I say this begrudgingly — it was good. It was well written. It was intelligent.”

Thanks to his ample handiwork, Gotham has now been reshaped by the great and powerful Oz (Colin Farrell) — a city once welcoming, now overrun by a dark undercurrent of crime. As Sofia (Cristin Milioti) works her angles and Oz masters brutality, the first season of “The Penguin” comes to a close this Sunday, Nov. 10, on HBO. While many wait for news of Season 2, those new to the series can find a trailer available at hbo.com/the-penguin

Q: Will Hilary Swank do another TV series?
A: Yes, in fact, though she won’t be the nominal star — which might work quite well with her relatively new off-screen role as a mother of twins. The two-time Oscar winner has signed to do a recurring role in the forthcoming Season 3 of the acclaimed drama “Yellowjackets” on Paramount+ With Showtime. Details about her character hadn’t been revealed at the time of this writing, but with the nature of that show, it’s little surprise that those facts are being kept secret for the time being.
There’s been some speculation that Swank might play the older incarnation of another of the soccer players who experienced a tragedy in their teens, giving the show its basis. That wouldn’t seem like too wild a guess, and it also would make it interesting to see who’s cast as the younger version of Swank in the flashback sequences. Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress and Christina Ricci will be among the returning stars ... and while it’s possible that Juliette Lewis might be seen again, that could be challenging, given what transpired in Season 2.
“Yellowjackets” will be Swank’s first dramatic-series work since “Alaska Daily,” the ABC journalism show that aired during the 2022-23 season. While movies have remained her primary calling card — reaffirmed lately by “Ordinary Angels” and “The Good Mother” — she has been doing her share of work in the television and streaming spaces. Her other recent projects there have included Netflix’s “Away” and FX’s “Trust,” plus her voice was heard in multiple episodes of Netflix’s animated series “BoJack Horseman.”

Lisa Kudrow
Q: What’s Lisa Kudrow doing now? And is it true she was turned down by “Saturday Night Live”?
A: Only this year — the 50th anniversary year of the legendary sketch show “Saturday Night Live” — could a star as bright as Lisa Kudrow (“Friends”) be mostly talked about for a role she didn’t get. It helps that her most recent show didn’t do so well — she had a role in Apple TV+’s ambitious “Time Bandits,” a sci-fi comedy series that was canceled after one season earlier this year.
But, that was just one of a huge number of TV and film gigs Kudrow has starred in after — yes, indeed — being rejected by “Saturday Night Live” in 1990.
Kudrow didn’t get the job, but her former comedy partner Julia Sweeney (the two were in the Groundlings improv troupe together) did. And Sweeney admits to having felt a little guilty about it.
“I remember thinking, ‘Oh, I hope that Lisa gets something. She deserves to work,’” Sweeney said in a People magazine interview earlier this year.
OF FRIENDS ON NBC
She shared this as a funny anecdote because, of course, Kudrow did find a nice little gig four years later when she was cast in “Friends,” one of the biggest sitcoms in history.
She’s starred in numerous other major projects since, including her long-running sitcom, “Web Therapy.”
“Time Bandits” wasn’t quite as successful, but its cancelation has cleared the way for her next big role, in the new sitcom “No Good Deed,” slated to debut on Netflix next month.

Q: Is Clive Owen going to do more of his Sam Spade show?
A: Fittingly, perhaps, it’s a mystery.
AMC broadcast “Monsieur Spade” back in January, starring Clive Owen (“Children of Men,” 2006) as the legendary private detective Sam Spade, made famous in the novel and film “The Maltese Falcon” (1941). Since the show’s original release, AMC has clammed up on the question of whether there will be more.
To be fair to them, it was billed as a limited series, and it came to a relatively neat conclusion. So, they can leave us to assume that it was always intended as a one-and-done miniseries.
Of course, if a show is successful enough, it will get more seasons.
But that’s a big “if.” “Monsieur Spade” was certainly a critical success at the time and had a second life among viewers when it was redistributed by Netflix later in the year. But, that may not have been enough to earn it a second round — especially because its lead is a bona fide Hollywood star who likely commands a significant paycheque.
Owen’s star power also means he hasn’t wasted time finding another project — he recently signed on to star in another limited series, this one a true crime story of the tragic murder of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey. It was a case that gripped the nation at the time, and the new series is sure to draw a lot of attention.
This, of course, is a bit of a bad sign for “Monsieur Spade,” though Owen could certainly juggle both — again, if AMC asks him to.

Runner’s high: Experience the thrill of the race in Part 2 of ‘Sprint’
On your mark, get set, go! Prepare for a jaw-dropping show of strength and agility as Part 2 of the popular Netflix docuseries “Sprint” drops Wednesday, Nov. 13, on the streamer.
Following individuals from around the world, this fascinating series offers an inside look at the lives of top athletes practicing track and field, each doing their best to become the fastest person in the world. After an exciting, six-episode first installment, audiences are now welcomed back to watch as these talented runners prepare to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, which took place this past summer.
As Netflix describes: “The latest edition of the docuseries shows what it takes to dig deep, pull out your personal best on a global stage and then get back into training to continue dominating on the track.”
With four 45-minute episodes all releasing at once, “Sprint” follows the competitors “as they compete at the pinnacle of their sport” (per Netflix), seeing some rise to the occasion while others are faced with the difficult realization that they must wait another four years for their next shot.
Sprinters Marcell Jacobs (Italy), Fred Ker-
ley (U.S.), Shericka Jackson (Jamaica) and Olympic 100-meter champion Noah Lyles (U.S.) are all set to return for this second installment after making appearances in the series’ first run of episodes, and are now joined by the likes of Kishane Thompson (Jamaica), Melissa Jefferson (U.S.), Twanisha Terry (U.S.), Kenny Bednarek (U.S.) and Oblique Seville (Jamaica). Other sprinters joining the ranks are Olympic 100-meter champion Julien Alfred (Saint Lucia), 200-meter gold medalists Gabby Thomas (U.S.) and Letsile Tebogo (Botswana), all of whom shined during this year’s Olympic Games.
