PETUNIA FESTIVAL
It’s back! After a pandemic nipped last year’s Petunia Festival in the bud, the annual event returns DIXON – You can’t keep a good festival down – just ask the team behind Dixon’s Petunia Festival. The dedicated group of volunteers from the city’s business community, civic and religious organizations, community leaders, and local residents are cranking up the flower power again to bring the annual city celebration back after it took a forced vacation last year, due to the pandemic. While patrons of this year’s Petunia Festival may not be able to enjoy every blooming thing they’ve come to expect from the annual festival – organizers are scaling things back a bit this year out of an abundance of caution as pandemic restrictions ease up – but they’re still committed to putting on the best show of Petunia City pride as possible. Festival leadership has been work-
ing with the health department, police department and City Council on safely bringing back the city’s signature event while keeping safety precautions in place, Petunia Festival President Jennifer Bubrick said. The event, which usually runs for several days, has been scaled back to the Independence Day weekend, running from July 2-4. “It will be different than it has ever been, but we have to be conscious as a group for the community,” she said. But no matter how the festival plays out, organizers promise the bloom won’t be off. It’ll still be the same bigcity festival with the small-town heart. For more information, go to https:// petuniafestival.org/, and for the latest updates, follow Dixon Petunia Festival on Facebook.
