Three fire departments respond to garage fire in Erie
Firefighters withthe Erie, Hillsdale and Prophetstown fire departments responded to agarage fire on River Road in Erie on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The fire is believed to have started from a wood-burning stove and was fanned by windy conditions Erie Fire Department had 10 personnel on the scene, firefighter andpolice officer JordanGarrison said. The fire was contained within 20 minutes. SteveSiefken of Shaw Mediahappened to be driving by and called 911 and alerted the homeowner, who was not aware ofthe fire.

Thecomponentsforthesystemhave beenorderedandwillbereadyfor installationwithinthenextfewweeks.
Thesystemwillhelpwithautomaticallyraisingandloweringthecottothe properheightforloadingandunloadingpatients;allowtheEMTtomove thecotintoandoutoftheambulance withouthavingtolifttheweightofthe cotandthepatient;improvesafetyfor the EMTandthepatientduringthe transitioninandoutoftheambulance; allowEMTstoperformtheirjobwith fewerpersonnel;andreduceloading andunloadinginjuriesby50%.
Thedepartmentalsodebutedanew IncidentCommandVehicleearlierthis month.
SinceAugust2022,acommitteeof chiefs,officersandfirefightershave beenworkingontheprojectthat involvedpurchasingausedpickup truckandfullyoutfittingittosuittheir commandstructureneeds.ErieFireis honoredtoservetheresidentsoftheir districtandhelptheresidents intheir timesofneed.

Inthefinalsectionalmeetofhis high school career,Skylar Drolema wantedtosetthetoneforhisSterling teammates.
TheMorrisonseniordidjustthat, andheendedupmakingastatement byearningstateberthsintwoevents attheUnited Township Sectionalon Saturdayafternoon.
Drolema finishedsecondinboththe 50-and100-yardfreestyleraces,but swamfasterthanthestatequalifying timeinbothraceswithseason-best performances.
“Inthe50,Iwasgoingintothismeet asa seniorandIwantedtomakestate inmylastyear–formycoachesand formyself,ofcourse, butalsofor the team,”Drolemasaid.“Iwantedtoget thatgoing,getthehypegoingforthe upcomingracesthatwehad.Butcuttingtime, that’swhatwepracticetodo. Icamein andgotitdone.”
Hecut0.9 secondsoffhisseedtime inthe50freestyle,andslashedawhopping2.21 secondsoffhis previousseason-besttimeinthe100 free.

Knowingthecompetitionhewas facing,Drolemasaidheknewhe’d likelyhavetomakeitontimeinstead ofearningtheautomaticqualifying spotsbywinningthe races.
“It’sprettyamazing,honestly,”he said.“Goingintothis,Iwashoping to makeittostate,andIknewI’dhaveto getthetimetomakeittostate. I could’vegotfirstintherace,but I knewthetimewouldcomefirstmore thanwinningtherace.Beingasenior, makingittostate,it’sjustamazing to me.”
