School is out for the summer, but there’s plenty of educational and entertaining activities at River Valley District Library, 214 S. Main St. in Port Byron. Registration is required for most programs. Please call 309-523-3440 to sign up, or register through the online calendar at www.rivervalleylibrary.org.
Children’s programs
Story Times, every Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. Start your Mondays with a story! Join RVDL every Monday for bubbles, music, crafts, games, snacks and tons of amazing books!
Family Yoga with Dassah every Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Class will involve 15 to 20 minutes of yoga with adults and children. Children then will have a structured activity with the children’s librarian while adults finish up with more yoga.
Wednesday, June 8: Wapsi River Environmental Education Center – Reptiles and Amphibians, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Frogs, snakes, salamanders, oh, my! Learn about the reptiles and amphibians that live around us.
Thursday, June 9: Dan Gogh’s Magical Camp Adventure, 6 to 7 p.m. Artist Dan Gogh will be your guide for engaging camp activities, including searching for magical survival equipment and amazing nature discoveries. Wander off the beaten path and join Gogh where magic, comedy and art are all part of the adventure.
Friday, June 10: Figge Art Camp 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Let’s get artsy with Figge! Come to RVDL to get creative and explore new and fun art techniques!
Monday, June 13: Monday Movie Matinee, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Watch “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” and have sandwiches and veggies for lunch.
Wednesday, June 15: Owl Pellet Dissection and Scat Tour at Dorrance Park, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Join RVDL at Dorrance Park to dissect owl pellets and learn about what they eat and how they digest things. Afterward, we will take a scat tour through the Dorrance Park trails.
Friday, June 17: DIY Nature Explorer Kit, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Create your own nature explorer kit! You’ll have everything you need to venture into nature: magnifying glass, test tubes, compass and a nature explorer’s journal, all wrapped up in a weathered and well-traveled adventurer’s case.
Monday, June 20: Monday Movie Matinee, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Watch “Sing” and have hot dogs and chips for lunch.
Wednesday, June 22: Camp Fire SingAlong and Smores, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Songs and smores around the fire! Sing along and play along as we cook up some marshmallows.
Monday, June 27: WQPT’s Summer of Possibilities Story Time 10 to 11 a.m. The summer is full of possibilities and so is your child. Join WQPT as we read a story and participate in a hands-on activity. Each child will receive a PBS Kids Summer Activity book and a calendar inspiring their curiosity each day throughout the summer. Recommended for ages 3-8.
Wednesday, June 29: Kazoo Workshop, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. A Kazoo workshop in which each kid will get a free kazoo! Learn how to play, learn a song and create an amazing marching band!

Monday, June 6: Monday Movie Matinee, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dinner and a movie! We will be watching “Isle of the Dogs” and will have hot dogs and chips.
Friday, June 10: Teen Game Night, 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. An awesome night of tabletop games, video games and snacks! We will have Dungeons & Dragons, Swords & Sorcery/Lasers & Feelings and a variety of video games.
Monday, June 13: Monday Movie Matinee, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Watch “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” and have sandwiches and veggies.
Friday, June 17: Teen Fear Factor, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Test your courage as we put you up to disgusting, terrifying and bizarre challenges. Do you have what it takes?

Thursday, June 9: Lotus Lantern, 6 p.m. A night of Korean culture. Enjoy a traditional Korean treat before making a beautiful Lotus lantern. Younhee Shin from the Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project will be joining via Zoom to guide us through the making of the Lotus lantern.
Wednesday, June 15: Scrap Book Paper Art, 6 p.m. Create unique art with scrapbooking paper.
Wednesday, June 22: Cricut Cutting “Cut It Out,” 6 p.m. Learn about and work with the Cricut cutter.

Baseball 1A Lena-Winslow Sectional
Warren-Stockton 4, Fulton 1: The Steamers lost in a sectional semifinal Friday, as the WarHawks broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the top of the fourth, then scored a pair of insurance runs in the fifth at Lions Park in Lena.
Jacob Jones, Ian Wiebenga and Kannon Wynkoop had hits for Fulton, and the lone run in the second inning scored on an error. Brock Mason gave up four earned runs and seven hits in four innings, with four strikeouts and two walks, while Jones struck out five in three innings of shutout relief, allowing three hits and two walks.
2A Knoxville Sectional
Brimfield 10, Erie-Prophetstown 1:
The underdog Panthers’ postseason run came to an end in the sectional semifinals, as Brimfield scored four runs in the third inning and five in the sixth.
Connor Sibley had a hit and an RBI for Erie-Prophetstown, and Kolby Franks and Mikey Biba also had hits.
Connor Meadows allowed five runs (two earned) and six hits in three innings, with four strikeouts and three walks, and Franks gave up five earned runs and four hits in three innings of relief, striking out five and walking four.
Softball 2A Tremont Sectional
Rockridge 10, Erie-Prophetstown 1:
The Panthers came up short in a sectional final against the undefeated Rockets.
Mya Jones hit a solo home run for the only hit for Erie-Prophetstown (15-4), which managed just two baserunners against Rockridge pitcher Kendra Lewis.
