EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

The City of Sterling, Illinois is seeking applicants for the Equipment Mechanic position. The position has the responsibility to perform a journeyman level of maintenance and repair to gasoline and diesel-powered equipment as well as diagnosing and repairing electrical, hydraulic, cooling, heating, air conditioning and other equipment related systems under the direction of Public Works Superintendent. Other duties may include welding, fabricating, routine maintenance on City equipment, logging records, keeping inventory, purchasing materials and supplies, maintaining a clean and safe shop and working with the street and sewer maintenance crews as directed including snow and ice removal. Applicant must have a valid driver's license, a Class A CDL is preferred, but must be able to acquire a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement; within 90 days of being employed.
