Couple to celebrate 77th wedding anniversary John and Elaine Cramer will have a remarkable and rare 77th wedding anniversary Aug. 16, 2018. They were both born and raised in Dixon, just like their parents. The couple met while ice skating on the Rock River while they were in high school. John served in the South Pacific during World War II, and returned to work at the Freeman Shoe Co. He later worked at Marshall Barber and Beauty Supply Co. before retiring at the age of 85. Elaine worked for Harold Cook at Cook’s Flower Shop, as a flower designer and arranger for 10 years.
The couple still are very active. Besides going to church and taking care of their home, John goes to Kiwanis Club meetings every Wednesday and Elaine attends Sugar Grove Church and school board meetings and is a member of DAR. They have two children, their son, Jack Cramer of Herron, and their daughter, Susie Rocheleau of Chicago. Celebrations have been planned throughout the year. 60th Anniversary
90th Birthday Evelyn Hoelzer Rapp Carey was born Aug. 3, 1928, on the Hoelzer homestead near Paw Paw. She attended a one-room country school and graduated in 1946 from Paw Paw High School. She was employed as an accountant in Mendota and Dixon before her marriage. She married Milton P. Rapp, now deceased, on Sept. 25, 1949. They were married for 53 years and lived on a farm south of Sublette. They raised seven children, Milton (deceased) (Jeanne), David (Linda), Myron (Anne), Dean, Merle, Susanne (Daniel) Williams, and Julee (Thomas) Barkauskas. She also has two stepdaughters, Pamela Carey and Debra Carey. Evelyn has 11 grandchildren (two deceased), six stepgrandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren. She also has three siblings, Stanley Hoelzer, Eunice Rogers, and Bernice (Dick) Dunn. She was employed as a Realtor at Blackorby-Smith Realty for 15 years before her retirement. She is an active member of Community United Methodist Church in La Moille, a member of Dixon Sister Cities Association, the Wind Farm Red Hatters, and is an office volunteer for Kids Klub Inc. in Malden. She married William Carey on April 14, 2012. They reside in East Grove Township, and have enjoyed traveling. Evelyn will be celebrating with a family dinner in August.
