Mr. & Mrs. Ken Zuithoff In fall 1965, Ken Zuithoff, a Chicago junior at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, decided if he was going to meet any girls, he’d better invest in a meal ticket and eat on campus. At that time, all the young ladies were required to eat on campus. And so it was that he spotted incoming freshman Sally Cook from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and introduced himself at breakfast in the dining hall of her dorm. On their first date, he warned her that he was planning on becoming a minister. Her response was, “I’ve always wanted to be a minister’s wife. My favorite aunt is a minister’s

wife.” He wasn’t expecting that! Ken and Sally were married Sept. 7, 1968, at Grace Reformed Church in Wyoming, Michigan, by Sally’s favorite uncle and Ken’s professor at Western Theological Seminary, Dr. James I. Cook. They honeymooned in a borrowed Volkswagen camper at the foot of the Mackinaw Bridge, and spent a day on Mackinaw Island before returning to school in Holland, Michigan. After Sally graduated, they were off to Ken’s internship year at Hope Church in urban Los Angeles, where Sally ended up subbing in inner city schools.

She wasn’t expecting that! After Ken’s graduation from seminary in 1971, he accepted a call to Pultneyville Reformed Church in an historic hamlet on the shore of Lake Ontario, where they were blessed with the births of their three sons, Mark, Craig and Jeff. From there they arrived in Sterling in the middle of the blizzard of January 1979. Here in Sterling, they made their home, raised their family, and Ken served as the pastor of Bethel Reformed Church for 34 years. He now is the chaplain at CGH Medical Center and a volunteer chaplain with the Ster-

ling Police and the Illinois State Police. Sally has retired after working at Washington Elementary School for 25 years. Their family has grown to include their lovely daughtersin-law, Becky and Carrie, and d e l i g h t f u l g r a n d c h i l d re n , Sawyer, Laney, Chance, Grady, Finley, Crosby, Carter and Emmett. So many blessings over the last 50 years that they weren’t expecting! And so together they sing, “Give thanks to the Lord Almighty, for the Lord is good; his love endures forever.” Jeremiah 33:11

class reunions of 70 years and more will be available in the quarter-page format at no charge, with a photo allowed. Five-generation and four-generation photos with names, relationships, and places of residence of those pictured may be submitted for publication.
