By Chuck & Char As the official Scarecrow Fest mascots, Chuck and Char are “out standing in their fields” when it comes to giving visitors great tips on where to go and what to see during Scarecrow Fest weekend in St. Charles. In fact, they “stake” their reputation on it. Here are Chuck and Char’s “Must-Sees” of the 29th Annual St. Charles Scarecrow Fest – Presented by AAA on October 10-12.
Vote For Your Favorite Scarecrow – We’ve got over 100 handmade scarecrows in six different categories in Lincoln Park and the FIAT Zone in the Veterans Parking Lot this year. Stop by the Lincoln Park Info Booth manned by the Greater St. Charles Convention & Visitors Bureau to pick up a ballot and exercise your right to vote for your faves. No “stuffing” the ballot boxes please, Chuck.
Live Entertainment – What’s better than a weekend stuffed full of live Scarecrow Fest music and entertainment all on one stage? How about two stages? While you’re checking out all the fab scarecrows, stake out your spot at the Cadence Health, now part of Northwestern Medicine Stage in Lincoln Park or the Downtown Entertainment Stage in the Municipal Center Lot to enjoy some great performances by 97Nine, Wedding Banned, The Neverly Brothers, Ralph’s World and more!
Windy City Amusements Carnival – Chuck is not much on rides (he says all that spinning really knocks the stuffing out of him) but you can enjoy the Windy City Amusements Carnival all weekend long. There will even be $25 unlimited ride armband specials on Thursday, October 9 from 6-10pm and Friday, October 10 from 12-4pm. Daily Kids Activity Zone – This year the creative geniuses from Ravenswood Event Services are transforming the east side of the festival into a family-friendly, kid-first activity zone with different themed activities planned for each day. Friday, October 10 is Farmin’ Friday with a fruit and veggie stand, gardening demos by the Gardeneers and a petting zoo. Saturday, October 11 is Spooky Saturday complete with a Halloween costume sale and the Frozen Princess. Sunday, October 12 is Sunday Fun Day featuring the “Greetings from Scarecrow Fest” postcard mailbox, magic demonstrations and balloon animals. How fun is that? Let’s “make some hay” kids!
Closing Ceremonies – Not to brag or anything but this is our favorite “must-see” activity for Scarecrow Fest weekend. Why? Because we’re both performing live on stage, that’s why! Hello? It’s like our own Scarecrow Academy Awards show! In addition to recognizing all of the winners of this year’s Scarecrow Contest with Mayor Ray Rogina as well as jamming with Fight with Monsters, there will also be a special presentation to introduce an exciting new, year-long marketing campaign for Greater St. Charles called “Year of the Scarecrow”. What’s it all about, you ask? We’re not telling. You’ll just have to stop by and check it out!

Make Your Own Scarecrow – Head over to the Fifth Third Bank Zone (Filling Station Lot, west of 3rd Street between Cedar and Main Street) to stuff, dress and decorate your own custom scarecrow to take home with you. Pick from our selection of clothes generously donated by Savers of Carol Stream, or bring your own clothes to customize your scarecrow into a true “fashionistraw” like Char.
