In 2022 Bolingbrook businesses and residents continued to move forward. The future definitely looks brighter.

Over the years, I have come to admire the strong sense of community camaraderie that makes Bolingbrook unique. Neighbor helping neighbor is at the core of American society. I see this quality in Bolingbrook reflected by residents who shop small business, support local events and commit time to organizations and groups. In 2022 the residents and businesses continued to “talk the talk and walk the walk.”

As this community continues to put the pandemic behind us, 2023 is definitely the year of looking forward to today, tomorrow and beyond.

The Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce joins the “community chorus” in asking you to spend your money where you live and play.

Every time you Shop Bolingbrook, 68 cents of every dollar you spend is reinvested somewhere in the community. Not surprisingly, Bolingbrook residents own many area stores, restaurants and service businesses. These proprietors staff their establishments with employees with Bolingbrook residents. In response to the growing diversity among our Chamber members, and in an attempt to meet the needs of the various demographics within the Chamber, several special interest groups were formed. With the exception of BANG, membership in these groups is included with the basic membership investment. Each groups holds its meetings and keeps their own mailing list.

AMBASSADORS

Ambassadors are the most trusted BACC members; they are the front line group of representatives who go above and beyond in making new members or guests feel welcome at BACC events. They act as the marketing arm of the Chamber; helping increase membership and engagement while raising the visibility of the Chamber. They also provide mentorship and connection to new members.

Bolingbrook Area Networking Group (BANG) is the Chamber’s industry exclusive LEADS group. Guests (including non-members) are always welcome to determine if your industry is available. Official BANG membership is available to members of the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce. Emergig Leaders is a modern take on the traditional networking model. They aim to deliver high energy, interactive opportunities for professionals from a diverse background of industries and experience levels to get connected and get ahead. Join an eclectic, modern group of professionals for podcast style Q&A sessions on a variety of topics. They’ll keep it fun, laid back and open to audience participation. NONPROFIT COALITION

Nonprofit Coalition was established to bring together nonprofit organizations serving a variety of needs and causes in the community; the Board members

Initially designed to host quarterly meetings that will revolve around professional development. The format will be a blend of the knowledge needed to enhance the skills and abilities of those who work in the nonprofit sector; the information needed to be a good volunteer or Board member; and the power of networking by which people with a common interest or goal can build relationships and learn from the wisdom and experience of others.

Strengthening the local nonprofit sector in ways that enhance inefficiencies and effectiveness has benefit for the quality of life in the entire community. Staff, Board members, volunteers, donors and other interested community members will find opportunities through selected meeting topics to gain personal knowledge in a variety of areas that will personally benefit them and those they wish to serve.

SMALL BUSINESS COALITION

Small Business Coalition (SBC) is a collaborative group whose goal is to share best practices, gain knowledge from each other’s experiences, help each other solve issues, and explore business development opportunities.

Each month the meeting discussion revolves around a specific topic, and topics are determined in advance by the group. The SBC meets on the third Friday of every month (except December) at 7:30 a.m. at the Chamber office or virtual.

WOMEN IN BUSINESS

Women in Business (WIB) organization is designed to foster professional development, personal growth, community involvement, and strategic relationships for female leaders in our community. We meet every other month; the locations and programs may vary.

The Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce and the Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce continue to partner to offer monthly events either in person or virtual. From a panel discussion featuring Ulta senior management to a health topic addressed by AMITA doctors to golf lessons at Mistwood Golf Dome, WIB offers women a variety of developmental programs and networking events.

The Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce offers a professional development opportunity through its Toastmasters International Club Chapter.

The Club meets the last Monday of every month from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Members experience the valuable practice needed to develop public speaking, communication, and leadership skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Headquartered in Englewood, Colo., the organization’s membership exceeds 300,000 in more than 15,800 clubs in 149 countries. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders professional development opportunity.

The Toastmasters Pathways is a self-paced, learning experience that provides an exciting, flexible and interactive way to develop personal skills and help others in the club develop theirs. Pathways teaches the communication and leadership skills needed for success.

It gives the opportunity to build up to 300 unique competencies within 11 specialized learning paths to choose from and includes online content, so that learning can occur anytime, anywhere.

The content available is in Arabic, English, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese, with select paths available in Korean and Tamil.

6 UNIQUE THINGS TO DO AT FOUNTAINDALE PUBLIC LIBRARY

When you think of libraries, you likely think of checking out books and attending events. And while there’s no shortage of both of those at Fountaindale Public Library, they have a world of resources and services that will help inspire lifelong learning, foster creativity and connect you with your community. You might be surprised at all the fascinating things you can do at the library, so here are six to get you started.

1. RENEW YOUR LICENSE PLATE STICKER

Renewing your license plate shouldn’t be an allday event—and now it doesn’t have to be. Visit Fountaindale seven days a week to purchase your vehicle sticker in just minutes. You will need to bring your Illinois vehicle registration renewal notice sent by the Secretary of State, current registration card or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and your current driver’s license or ID. A $7.50 service fee—and a three percent transaction fee if paying by credit card—will be applied to each sticker.

2. GET FREE OR DISCOUNTED MUSEUM PASSES

Does your family enjoy visiting Brookfield Zoo, Cantigny Park, Chicago Botanic Garden and Naper Settlement? How about visiting them for free or

at a discounted price? With the library’s Museum Adventure Pass, you can do just that! Simply stop by the Circulation Desk in their lobby to check out a pass using your library card. Passes are first-come, first-served as there are a limited number of passes for each participating organization.

3. DIGITIZE YOUR PHOTOS AND OLD MOVIES

Do you have a pile of VHS tapes (or even 8mm film) full of memories like your baby’s first steps or that first wobbly bicycle ride down the sidewalk? How about old photos, negative or even slides? Using the library’s VHS to DVD converter or their Epson photo scanner, you can digitize and preserve your memories in Studio 300 before the ravishes of time deteriorate these media types of yesteryear.

4. GET YOUR DOCUMENTS NOTARIZED

If you are in need of a notary, Fountaindale has several staff members who can assist you at no cost. The library tries to have someone available during all business hours, but they encourage visitors to call to confirm availability on that day. Notary services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and you will need to bring a valid ID issued by a state or federal agency that includes your photo and signature and your unsigned document to be notarized. Documents must be signed in the notary’s presence.

5. RESERVE A FREE MEETING SPACE

Fountaindale has many spaces for groups and individuals to meet, study and create. Their meetings rooms are perfect for business meetings, group presentations and community gatherings for groups of five to 100 people. Each room comes equipped with an HD projector, and projection screen, a Blu-ray/DVD player and an HD stereo sound system. On the lower level of the library, Studio 300 houses audio recording suites, video recording and photography studios and group collaboration rooms that include two 48”monitors, a table with built-in laptop ports and charging outlets and a whiteboard wall to make sharing ideas with your team a breeze.

HOW TO GET A LIBRARY CARD

Fountaindale Public Library cards are available to residents, business and property owners who live within the boundaries of the library district. For more information about the library and to get a library card, visit the library, Bookmobile or their website at fountaindale.org.

6. GET YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

Fountaindale is proud to offer district residents ages 19 and older the opportunity to earn a free, accredited online high school diploma through Career Online High School. Since 2014, they have had more than 27 graduates successfully complete the program and go on to pursue exciting careers. They were even the first library in Illinois, and only the third in the country, to offer this program. If you’re ready to take your education to the next level, you need not look farther than your library.

AT BOLINGBROOK PARK DISTRICT

Bolingbrook Park District brings the community of Bolingbrook together with its programs and events. The park district partners with other agencies through intergovernmental agreements to help the residents of Bolingbrook maximize the benefits from their community.

Programs offered range from gymnastics, dance, youth sports, fitness, preschool, aquatics. theatre and more! The Annerino Community Center is located at 201 Recreation Drive and the Bolingbrook Recreation and Aquatic Complex is located at 200 Lindsey Lane.

Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Park is the most popular attraction in Bolingbrook providing year-round family

fun. This facility offers everything from swimming lessons and lap swimming to birthday parties and public swimming. Rates and hours vary with the season, so be sure to visit www. bolingbrookparks.org for the current schedule.

Lifestyles Fitness Center is another premier facility of the Bolingbrook Park District located inside the Bolingbrook Recreation and Aquatic Complex. Lifestyles’ mission is for members to become healthier while having fun and building relationships. It is the strength of the Lifestyles community that provides the best fitness experience that Bolingbrook has to offer. Memberships are available per month.

Boughton Ridge Golf Course is a nine-hole executive length course that is perfect for a quick round or for those that are looking to get

into the sport of golf. This Kemper Sports-managed course also serves as the home to Ashbury’s at Boughton Ridge restaurant and bar. Residents who are looking for a great round of golf followed by a nice meal need to look no further than Boughton Ridge.

For those that simply love to enjoy the outdoors, there is no shortage of options for you at the park district. Bolingbrook Park District offers 50 parks and facilities through the community totaling 1,107-acres of land. Amenities in the parks can range from bike paths and playgrounds to even a skate park.
