GOLDEN ECHO
From the LCCOA Executive Director
By Susie Welch
A BIG thanks to all of you who came out to Business after Business last month, along with all the help from LOTS in co-sponsoring this event. We love every chance we can to showcase one of Dixon’s assets – the Post House. I’m pleased to announce that Laura Hoyle is the new Events Manager at LCCOA. Laura has over 16 years’ experience in the industry and will be responsible for our biggest fund raiser – the Post House. She is a joy to work with and fits right in with the great staff at LCCOA. If you haven’t been to the Post House recently, we will be featuring Jim Duis of Dixon Park District Nature Center on March 19 at 2 p.m. at the Post House, when he will give his owl presentation. People have raved about this presentation, so you will want to mark your calendar to come.

Illinois Center for Independent Living) has grown. NICIL will be having satellite office hours at Lee County Council on Aging every Monday starting on March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. With our Outreach gals, Anna and Amy being off on Mondays, we’ve had a huge hole in services for the seniors in Lee County on Mondays. NICIL staff members are able to do all the things our Outreach Department offers, plus other services. We are very happy to be able to offer even more to the individuals we serve in Lee County through this partnership.
We are very pleased to bring the Fancy Feet to Lee County Council on Aging every other month, starting on March 26. These ladies will trim your toenails, provide foot massages and even paint your toenails for you if you wish, for a small fee. Good foot health is important as we age, so give Deb a call at 815-213-0324 to schedule your appointment.

This month’s Breakfast Club with Brandan is at 9 a.m. on March 22, and immediately following head back to the Center for the Price is Right at 10:30, sponsored by Allure. We will also introduce a new game, Wheel of Fortune, on March 13 at 2 p.m.. Solve the puzzle and you win your chance to spin the wheel for prizes!
If you haven’t heard, Open Mic is back at Lee County Council on Aging, on the fourth Friday of every month from 6 p.m. to 9-ish. Our snowbirds are back — this is a sure sign that spring is on its way! Use the senior center door for entry to Open Mic, and plan to have fun!
We are introducing a new coffee group this month, on the third Wednesday of this month from 9-10 a.m.: Coffee with the Mayor. Enjoy a good old-fashion coffee klatsch with the
Mayor of Dixon. This is a great opportunity to stay in touch with the community, reminisce on the good old days, and bend the mayor’s ear!
If you haven’t had a chance to stop by, please come check us out. We have been busy cleaning and setting up activity areas. We had a donation of a new big screen TV that will allow us to start showing movies on Wednesdays starting at 10 a.m. –come early and help Aaliyah pick out that week’s movie from our huge selection of DVDs. We are going to try to fire up the old popcorn machine because what’s a movie without popcorn? Pop can be purchased at our new pop fridge; remember, all proceeds go toward accessibility repairs at the Center. Stay after the movie and try out our chair yoga. Come for the yoga and stay for the fellowship.
Our community puzzle board has been moved into our “game room” along with the new card playing tables. A big THANKS to the Candlelight Group for making this happen! The generosity of the Lee County community makes all the difference in the life of seniors. We are still searching for a pool table to make our game room complete.
