I hope you had a great Mother’s Day! Whether you are a mother, grandmother, Godmother, or supporter of the family, I hope you carved out a little time for yourself and celebrated “you” an amazing person. As moms we spend all our time taking care of family and friends, so we often forget to take care of ourselves. If you didn’t take time out for yourself stop! Make today your day and pamper yourself, you
deserve it. As I sit here, thinking of what LCCOA means to the community; we are the moms, the caregivers, the guardians, the protectors and friends to our senior population. We here at LCCOA have a major responsibility to all our friends and families that patron our Center. The staff and I take our role very seriously. You can find us here late at night trying to come up with
From the WCSC Executive Director By Tori McDaniel It has always been apparent to me that our team isn’t made up of co-workers, but friends. They truly care about one another. Even during a heartbreaking time, they continue to ensure everyone else is OK. It started as a normal Wednesday, completing various tasks. As we got closer to the afternoon, it became an extremely emotional
and heartbreaking afternoon. I write this to not only inform you of Jack’s passing, because I know he made an impact on many of your lives by getting you where you needed to go, but to also reflect on how lucky we are here at the center. As most of you know, Jack was a driver for us here at WCPT for several years. There are times that are
solutions to improve the lives of our seniors. Every event, party, game or program is geared to enhance and enrich our senior’s lives. It is hard, yet very rewarding and enjoyable for all of us here at LCCOA. We often reach out to the community to help not only financially, but also for your ideas and suggestions. If you have a place you would like to visit or an idea you would like to share please contact LCCOA at 815-288-9236. Please help make 2019 summer, a summer to remember. The theme for the month of June is “Coming Together to Make a Difference”. How can you make a difference? Just visiting the Center and
spending time with those that need an ear to listen, a voice to converse with, someone to play a game of cards, shoot pool or just a friendly smile. It doesn’t take money, but it does take time. So come and make a difference and bring your ideas and suggestion. We like to hear from you. Thank you for all your support, it has been a great year! stressful, plans that don’t go as planned, and days that could have gone better, but in the end I look forward to coming to work each day. I love what I do, but most of all I am grateful for those that I get to work with. They are hardworking, funny, and caring. They make the stressful days not as bad; the days that didn’t go as planned are OK because we come up with a new plan; and the days that could have gone better are used for reflection. We spend so much of our time out of our homes and such a great deal of our time working that it is vital to find joy. I feel beyond lucky that I have been able to find that
joy and work with some of the most amazing people! Jack will truly be missed, as he was an absolutely amazing person! While our team works through the loss of a beloved friend, I hope they reflect on the joy that they had and the time they spent together. I hope that they remember how much they truly mean to one another. I hope that Jack’s family feels a bit of joy in knowing how much he meant to all of us. Celebrate all of life’s special moments at the Post House What’s a party? According to Google, it’s a social gathering of invited guests, involving food, drinks and entertainment. To me, it’s a celebration of life! A party can be anything you would like it to be. You can have a one-man party or a party with thousands of people. It can be two people sharing a bologna sandwich listening to your favorite
music, or a huge rager with hundreds of people. What’s important is you stop and recognize life’s moments worth celebrating: a new baby, birthdays, graduations, weddings, anniversaries and so much more. A few years ago, a very special friend and her husband had a milestone anniversary approaching. Their family wanted to have a
party to celebrate. She wasn’t sure because a family member had been ill and that it may not be appropriate. When I was asked of my opinion, my answer was, “Yes! Your family wants to celebrate the two of you. Let them. Celebrate life!” She agreed to the party and had a fabulous time. What beautiful new memories had been created. My
friend was so grateful for the little advice. I have a confession. I can’t take the credit for this saying. It was advice given to me from my wonderful mom. It stuck, and I love sharing this gem. In my line of work, I feel blessed to help people celebrate life. Don’t forget to celebrate your life!

Here we are ready to start June and finally get some of that warm weather. The Emporium is full (due to your donations) to the brim with clothing and all of the other household items. Maybe you aren’t aware of the accessories we carry. We have billfolds, makeup cases, “cheater” eye glasses, scarves, umbrellas, men’s baseball hats, and all types of bags to carry to the grocery store or library – colorful bags that somebody brought home from their vacation but never used. And speaking of vacation, the luggage comes in and goes out. Stop in and check it out. We have received another nice

Second St. The class, offered by the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office Department of Senior and Community Services, is designed as a refresher course to help people prepare to take a driving test. Outreach for me means more than just bringing information and services to people; it means reaching out to the community, being involved where I can, and taking an interest in my client’s needs so that I can better assist them with the programs and education they need. My family is the most important thing to me, but being able to help others and change lives even in the smallest or simplest ways is a huge part of what keeps me going. I knew from my first day here that I was in the right place. Perhaps you’ve been to either LCCOA or WCSC, seen caseworkers working in the Outreach offices, and wondered who are they, and what do they do? Have you ever wondered who it is that you’re going to meet with when you schedule an appointment? Maybe you’ve received assistance from a caseworker in the past but are now being scheduled with someone different. We understand questions, feelings, and even concerns can come about when speaking with someone new. Because of this, we want to take an opportunity to introduce – or re-introduce – ourselves by sharing what Outreach means to each of us. Wendy – “To me, Outreach is helping as many people as we can and hoping that they will pass along the word so that others will come to us for assistance. From Medicare to free amplified phones, it is our goal to help as many people as possible. In order to help others, I first need to respect them and realize that our clients are usually facing some form of crisis when they come to us.” Linda – “Having the ability to help seniors is gratifying and rewarding,

Christmas Bakeries
