JULY 29-30, 2023

We are so excited to announce a full schedule of events for the 73rd Swedish Days, supported by Northwestern Medicine and considered the “Granddaddy of Illinois Festivals”. The Geneva Chamber of Commerce has been working hard since the beginning of the year to organize, prepare and shape this grand celebration. We are bringing back all the favorite events of years past. Our great volunteers, many parade participants and scrumptious food vendors all return to create this festival of fun.

The festival will begin on Wednesday, June 21st, showcasing our award-winning Geneva Park District and all they have to offer, which will include Geneva’s Got Talent semi-finals. The carnival will be open, the Craft Brew tent will now open at noon each day and will be serving delicious craft selections, our non-profits will begin food sales and the Geneva History Museum shows you what makes Geneva special with their historic tours (making a special stop to see the Viking Ship this year). We want this day to be about playing, eating and shopping in Geneva.

The Central Stage entertainment begins on Thursday with the Geneva Park District’s Geneva’s Got Talent finals and concluding, that evening, with the band Sushi Roll. Central Stage will be filled with all types of bands throughout the event. Go to genevachamber.com to find

out the full entertainment schedule. We are trying something new this year and instead of our local singers on the courthouse lawn, we’ll have them entertaining in the Craft Brew Tent, celebrating young and upcoming talent from the area. We invite you to the Merchant’s Sidewalk Madness Event on Thursday evening as well. We hope to have all our downtown and Geneva Commons merchants involved in this sidewalk event, open until at least 8 pm that night.

Back for another year, is the Swedish Days Car Show beginning at 5 pm on S. Third Street. Come down and enjoy some vintage cars. Great music and local food complete this event. If you know of anyone that wants to “show-off” their car, tell them to come on down to Franklin and 3rd at 4:00 to get a space. Space will be limited so get there early.

Just a reminder that our Settlers Breakfast will be hosted by Copper Fox on 477 S. Third St. on Thursday, June 22nd. A buffet breakfast will be served at 8:30 am. Come Early! This event is open (and free) to all our residents that have lived in Geneva for over 15 years. We always welcome the presentation by our own Mayor, Kevin Burns.

Friday brings our Kids’ Day event, located at the Geneva Public Library. The day begins with the Kids’ Parade registration at 10:00 am at Fifth and Campbell streets. Look for the BIG yellow sign. Fun booths with interactive games, local entertainment including the School of Rock, Geneva H.S. cheerleader squad performances, Cherry Berry Blast Face Painting Co., Papa Saverio’s pizza sales, cotton candy and much more are all part of this special day. Bring the kids down from 11:00 am-3:00 pm for a day of safe fun, inclusive for all families.

You can’t leave Swedish Days without first visiting Sweden Väst, our very own Swedish village with food, entertainment and games. Swedish style for you. Only on Saturday and Sunday located in the Judges Lot of the County Courthouse on James St.

Sunday, of course, is our renowned Swedish Days Parade, a tradition for all families in the area.

Our sponsors are a huge part of making this all happen, be certain to visit their booths on James Street and businesses in the Fox Valley area.

We hope that you enjoy this year’s Swedish Days. Thank you to everyone who has helped with the awardwinning festival. Whether 2023 is your first time or you’ve done it for 70+ years. You are much appreciated.

We look forward to your visit to Geneva. Bring your family, bring your friends. Come early, stay late. But please, keep the rain at home!

Swedish Days would not be Swedish Days without a taste of Sweden represented. From music to food to specialized items, the Geneva Chamber has it on the schedule.

On Wednesday enjoy a traditional kick-off to Swedish Days. Strolling musicians will play music of Sweden, dressed in the colors of the country. Perhaps some dancing will ensue.

Friday is Kids’ Day and one of the Kids’ Day Parade categories is appropriately enough Swedish Spirit. Join in on the fun!

Saturday and Sunday finds the Judges Lot (off of James & Fourth) becoming Sweden Väst. Vendors will be set up to engage you in Swedish history, tempt your tastebuds or offer unique Swedish inspired items. Nordic Folk Dancers will be demonstrating traditional Swedish dancing on the Courthouse Lawn. Vikings will take a break from their journeys to visit with festival goers. (See schedule for vendors, days and times). You can also catch those Vikings joining in the parade on Sunday. Sweden Väst is sponsored by Stockholm’s and Friends of the Viking Ship.

Offsite, just east of downtown, over the weekend visit Good Templar Park and tour historic Swedish “tiny houses” known as Stugas on guided tours at Good Templar Park. While there, don’t miss the 1893 “Viking” a full size replica of an original, excavated 1,000 year old Viking ship. In 1893, “VIKING” with its daring crew of 12 sailed nonstop across the stormy Atlantic from Norway to Canada, and then on to become a star attraction at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago. More information is listed in the schedule in this section.

And the food!

Geneva United Methodist Church-Men’s Club (Fourth & James), Grahams Fine Chocolates & Ice Cream (302 S. Third St.). See the Food Booth listings for complete menu.

Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S. 3rd St., will offer a Swedish Pancake Breakfast from 8:00 a.m.11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 24.

As you walk around Swedish Days, keep your eye out for our restaurants and shops embracing Swedish Days all week! Everyone is a little Swedish for five days in June.

Do we have Swedish Spirit? Yes We Do!

Entertainment -

You’ll Be Dancing in the Streets

Geneva will be rocking mid-June when explosive bands come to the Swedish Days Festival supported by Northwestern Medicine. We’ve got several genres covered – so whatever your listening pleasure, you will find your favorites all have a place on this year’s slate of artists.

The live music can be enjoyed in two spots — on the Central Stage (Third Steet) and in the Craft Beer Tent (James Street). Performances run June 21-24. Again, this year the superb talent of Richard Peck from R/J Recording and Sound will provide the sound and lights for entertainment. Gerald Subaru of North Aurora is the proud presenter of Central Stage entertainment all week.

WEDNESDAY evening’s Central Stage entertainment will begin at 4:30 p.m. as the Swedish Midsummer Procession

and performance by Swedish American Children’s Choir commences. Welcoming you with a traditional Swedish Välkommen, they will take the stage to perform music and songs from Sweden, along with some audience participation dancing. Performing concerts in the Midwest, the group is Illinois’ largest Swedish Children’s Chorus for ages 4-18. At 5:30 p.m. enjoy live performances by the Geneva Park District’s Angels Cheer & Poms Team, the Geneva Gymnastics Academy, Playhouse 38 youth performers, and the Geneva Park District’s Sunset Dance Academy. Immediately following will be the semifinalists from “Geneva’s Got Talent” performances. Geneva and the surrounding communities are bursting with emerging talent – everything from dancers, singers, jugglers, bands, magicians and more. The Geneva Park District is proud to join efforts with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce to produce a competition to showcase that talent! In addition to presenting sponsor Gerald Subaru of North Aurora, Geneva Park District is pleased to co-sponsor Wednesday night entertainment.

THURSDAY don’t miss “Geneva’s Got Talent” finalists, starting at 5:00 p.m.

Come and see who takes home the cash prize. Thursday evening’s entertainment will have everyone singing and

dancing with Sushi Roll at 7:00 p.m. Formed in early 2012, Sushi Roll quickly perfected their own unique blend of high-energy dance music and rock n roll swagger and then topped it off with memorable stage costumes, inspired by cosplay, anime, and superheroes. Quite frankly, you will find their performance AMAZING! In addition to presenting sponsor Gerald Subaru of North Aurora, Floods Royal Flush is pleased to cosponsor Thursday night entertainment.

FRIDAY “night” begins at 3:00 p.m. with The MacCartyns. Performing harmony rock from the late ‘60s, this local band always brings a crowd. At 5:00 channel your inner funk with No Turn on Red. A versatile, horndriven, funk band that is paired with amazing female vocals and a full thick rhythm section. With an injection of New Orleans brass band flare, No Turn On Red’s mission is to produce high-energy shows that entice the ears of all ages. The band consists of an eclectic group of Illinois top-tier veteran funk musicians blended with several younger formally trained jazz artists. At 7:00 p.m., those wacky (but soulful) Blooze Brothers are on the loose again! Hotly pursued by their lovely parole officers, the boys sense that a trap is being laid. This high powered choreographed 12-piece show band covers Motown, R&B, soul, current favorites and of course the music and crazy antics of the famous original Blues Brothers. In addition to presenting sponsor Gerald Subaru of North Aurora, Wells Fargo Financial is pleased to co-sponsor Friday night entertainment.

Grand Parade - topping off a fabulous week

center of town the march will continue south on Third Street and disband at the Metra train station.

This community parade is everything you want a parade to be. Local organizations and businesses, floats, classic cars, music, performers and more. Celebration Brass returns along with the traditional kilts and bagpipes of Band of the Blackwatch. We welcome Procession Brass to our grand parade this year. Local favorites, the Crystal Lake Strikers Drumline will have you clapping along. In addition, the ever popular South Shore Drill Team will add to the elation.

This annual parade is an eye and ear opening experience with marching bands, colorful floats, extraordinary entertainers and local community groups and businesses. Our Swedish Days parade culminates a week of fun, food and friends.

Marshaled by many volunteers and coordinated by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, the parade steps off at 1 p.m., Sunday, June 25, and winds through downtown Geneva.

The parade path starts from the high school area at Center Street and Anderson Boulevard and continues south on Anderson turning east onto State Street. In the

Tumbling and leaping over everything will be the Jesse White Tumbling Team. Shriners from Aurora and Medinah bring a little bit of everything to Geneva. And of course, our hometown parade would not be complete without the local Scout troops carrying a flag that spans half a block.

Hometown organizations, bands and businesses - the excitement is something you won’t want to miss.

So find your viewing spot and get ready to roar with the crowd.

Thank you to Becky Smith, Baird & Warner for sponsoring the parade and to Lakeshore Recycling Systems for sponsoring the VIP Tent.
