Celebrate six decades of Swedish Days Happy 65th birthday to Swedish Days presented by Cadence Health! It wouldn’t be summer in Geneva without the “Granddaddy of Illinois Festivals” presented by Geneva Chamber of Commerce. This six-day festival opens June 17 and continues through June 22. “This fest has been a summer classic for over six decades,” says Jean Gaines, president of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. “New surprises will add a fresh spin to some of the traditions. The volunteers, the parade participants and the food vendors come back each year to create six days of fun. We thank everyone involved for helping make our hometown festival an event we can be proud of.” Festivities take place on South Third Street, just south of State Street (Route 38) and on North Fourth Street. You will also find food booths, activities, shopping and samplings on side streets in downtown Geneva. Many activities are free, including the entertainment. The festival also is accessible via Metra’s Union Pacific West Line. Geneva’s train station is on South Third Street just blocks from the hub of activities. Shopping, eating and music are all on the schedule for Tuesday. Then the kids will help kick off the celebration opening day with Creation Station, the carnival, quad power jump and Fair on the Square - two hours of fun for young visitors on Third Street followed by an ice-cream eating contest. As the day draws to a close, the calendar turns

to 1950 as The Crown Vics take us back to bobby sox and malt shops that evening. Free musical entertainment will be offered all week throughout Swedish Days. Each night a different decade is brought to life on the stage. There’s even a place for Swedish entertainers on this year’s lineup. The popular, family friendly Geneva’s Got Talent is back! Come and cheer on the semi-finalists Wednesday evening. Judges votes and your votes on Facebook will help carry them over to the finals on Saturday. Thursday, Craft Brew@402 debuts. Craft beer enthusiasts will enjoy this experience at the tent on the SW corner of Fourth & State. Open through Sunday and featuring local brewers. For a complete list of events, visit www.genevachamber. com/swedish_days.php. If you have any questions, stop at the information booth located at the corner of South Third and James streets near the Kane County Courthouse. We encourage you to spend the entire festival week in Geneva. Jean Gaines – President, Geneva Chamber of Commerce

Dance through the decades Do you like to twist and shout or do the hustle? Celebrating 65 years of Swedish Days, each night on Third Street will feature a decade. Starting Tuesday with the 50s and closing out the week on Saturday with 90s to now. To be in full rockin’ spirit, why not pull out your bell bottoms and leg warmers and dress for the decade. Relive the jukebox, eight track and vinyl days when some of the top area bands come to the Swedish Days Festival presented by Cadence Health. The live music can be enjoyed in three spots — on the Central Stage and the Courthouse lawn both located on Third Street. In addition, on Saturday and Sunday, Sweden Väst, corner of N. Fourth & State, pays tribute to our heritage with singing & dancing performed by Swedish musicians. Performances run June 17-21 on Third Street and June 21 & 22 at Sweden Väst. Again this year the superb talent of Richard Peck from R/J Recording and Sound will provide the sound and lights for entertainment. Shodeen Homes is the proud sponsor of Central Stage entertainment all week. Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. will be a gas as The Crown Vics bring their intrepid blend of 1950’s birth of rock & roll, and rhythm & blues showstoppers to the sock hop. Don’t be a square and miss this blast of a time. Wednesday evening’s Central Stage entertainment begins at 5:30 p.m. as the Swedish American Children’s Choir takes the stage to perform songs from Sweden. At 6:30 p.m. the semifinalists from “Geneva’s Got Talent” will perform. Help carry your favorite to the Saturday night finals by voting on Facebook June 17 starting at 10 a.m. until 10 a.m. June 20. Search for Geneva, IL – Chamber of

Friday rock out at 6:00 p.m. with the winner of the Geneva Park District’s “Battle of the Bands.” Like the totally tubular Modern Day Romeos will get the crowd jumpin’ at 7:30 p.m. with 80s favs for sure. In addition to Shodeen Homes, Geneva Park District is pleased to co-sponsor Friday night. Saturday don’t miss “Geneva’s Got Talent” finalists, starting at 6:30 p.m. Come see who takes home the $1,000 cash prize. 7th Heaven takes Central Stage at 8 p.m. performing hits from the 90s to today.
