WEST CHICAGO – The DuPage Veterans Foundation is looking to provide World War II veterans with a trip they will never forget. The DuPage Airport will host its fourth annual fundraiser for Honor Flight Chicago from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2. The day will honor World War II and Korean War veterans and will include displays of aircraft and military vehicles, the popular singing group The Legacy Girls, the Naperville Big Band, bagpipers performing “Amazing Grace” and a roll call of honorary veterans. All the money earned from the event will go to Honor Flight Chicago, a program that allows World War II veterans to visit the World War II memorial and other sites in the nation’s capital. One of the event organizers, Christine Dettmann, is the daughter of a World War II veteran and said she was honored to be a part of the event. “Any event that supports and honors our veterans, whether it’s World War II vets or Vietnam vets, are important,” Dettmann said. “We need to show them that we appreciate them and that they did a tremendous service to our country.” Dettman’s father, World War II veteran Charles “Chuck” Scheckel, has attended the event every year since its inception and is aware of the history and importance of Chicago Honor Flight. Scheckel has fond memories of the formation of the DuPage Veterans Foundation. He particularly remembers meeting former West Chicago Mayor Mike Kwasman, who was instrumental in organizing the Honor Flight fundraiser before his passing. The wheels were set in motion when Scheckel organized a reunion of war veterans about six to eight years ago and asked Kwasman to deliver a

When asked what specific element of the trip was his favorite, Scheckel had a hard time nailing down one thing. “I thought everything was great,” Scheckel said. “The most memorable piece is the Korean War [piece]. The casualties looking out of this marble wall, and I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s etched in black marble. Somehow when you etch into it, it looks like photographs.” The fundraiser sets a goal of $55,000 to cover the costs of the flight each year. The DuPage County group has raised about $155,000 during three years, according to DuPage Veterans Foundation member Richard Jorgensen. Scheckel is eager for a large turnout this year and hoping to see many World War II and Korean War veterans. “If they all come out like they’ve been coming out, I’m perfectly happy,” Scheckel said.

4 Springfield uncertainties cause budgetary concern By ANNA SCHIER aschier@shawmedia.com WEST CHICAGO – West Chicago Elementary School District 33’s financial future is uncertain. However, the cause of that uncertainly isn’t within the district, but in Springfield. The Board of Education received a presentation earlier this month on the budget projection for fiscal year 2016 from financial adviser PMA Securities. Anticipated revenue for the coming year is $57.3 million, and expenditures are $56.9 million, according to District 33 Business Operations Director John Haffner, placing the district in the black by about $400,000. Fiscal year 2015’s budget included an estimated $56.1 million in revenue and $54.9 million in expenses. “What is unusual is that we may have to change this projection several times before formally adopting a budget ... because of the legislation happening in Springfield,” Haffner said via email. Among those state-related worries are a potential pension cost shift and proposed Senate Bill 1, board President Brenda Vishanoff said. The bill is similar to last year’s Senate Bill 16, which would have re-allocated funds

By J.Tom Shaw Video is a powerful marketing tool for small business. Thanks to high speed Internet, YouTube and Facebook, and the rise of mobile prevalence, more videos are viewed online than ever before. In the past, using video to reach an audience was an expensive proposition for many small businesses. Production costs and pricy broadcast advertising schedules were too expensive to run with adequate frequency. Fast-forward to today, and any business with a marketing plan can incorporate video affordably and effectively. Below are a few tips for how you can use video to drive traffic and grow your business: Video is an excellent component to a business website. When a potential customer is searching your website, offer a relevant, high quality video segment. Content can include benefits of your product or service, interviews with you or your team. Best of all, testimonials from actual satisfied customers can be just as effective as word of mouth advertising. Video is an effective way to improve

Search Engine Optimization (SEO). YouTube has dominated the video view field for several years now. Owned by Google, YouTube videos receive favorable search result status in Google searches. Your business can host your videos on YouTube, and link back to your website. You can also display the video on your website using a YouTube widget. In both cases, that linking will improve your chances of getting found by people searching for your product or service. Video rocks on social media. Facebook allows videos to auto play in the news feed. Experts have noted that video can outperform organic reach over text and photo content on Facebook. Social media video for business should be friendly, fun, and informal. Show you and your employees active in the community, having fun with customers, or demonstrating some helpful tips. For examples of these and many other videos, please visit www.ShawMediaDigital. com/video.

Q & A with the Hearing Doctor Balance and Older Adults Q: Why does my mom seem to have more balance problems as she is aging?

A: Balance for standing and walking depends on many diferent factors including input from the vestibular system, vision, and proprioceptors. he vestibular system Dr. Terri Lightbody is located in the (630) 580-5777 inner ear and the proprioceptors are the sensors of position and stability in the legs and feet. As we are aging, we are more prone to illness that afects these systems. Disease such as peripheral neuropathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and degeneration of the vestibular system all occur in higher incidence as we are aging. Also, the loss of muscle strength and painful joints can compromise your ability to correct your balance. Let’s not forget the brain’s overall contribution. Balance control is also dependent on healthy brain function and processing. As we age, our brain processing slows down. his can result in slower reactions and adaptations to imbalance.

function and it can be diicult to identify the cause. Adults with dizziness are 2-3 times more susceptible to falls. here are a few simple precautions that adults can incorporate into their lifestyle to ensure better aging. Many things are dependent on good physical condition. Maintaining good nutritional habits, regular exercise and strength training can help. Regular physical exams are also important. Also, take good care of your feet by using good shoes. A tendency to fall and symptoms of dizziness should never be dismissed as a consequence of aging. hese symptoms should be addressed by a physician so the potential sign of a disease might be identiied and controlled. Many times the individual needs a comprehensive auditory system evaluation to rule out the vestibular system as a contributing factor. he ability to move about safely is important as we age. It is a quality of life factor. If you are experiencing balance problems, consult with your Doctor of Audiology for evaluation.

Did you know that M-Day was on April 21? That was the day Google decided to wake businesses up to the mobile revolution. Mobile has been growing for years, but the pace is picking up. In 2013, searches done on mobile devices outnumbered searches done on desktop computers. Businesses should have taken notice then (if not before) and made their websites easily viewable on phones and tablets. But, many businesses missed the memo or ignored it. The memo is coming out loud and clear now from a source that should be paid attention to….Google. Google’s “memo” was published on February 26, 2015. It included on April 21, 2015 Google will be implementing algorithm changes that will cause websites that are mobile optimized to be displayed higher in search results. Google’s announcement states, “Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal…Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices. “In lay terms this means that if a business wants it’s website to come up early to people searching on a phone, their website needs to be easy to read on a

phone. This means that a person should not have to zoom in or pinch and pull the screen to read the content. To see if a website is mobile friendly, use a mobile site tester online. There are two ways to have a mobile optimized website. The first is a “bandaid” solution. It is having a separate mobile companion site. It is usually an abbreviated version of the desktop site. It typically has the most commonly viewed information, such as address, hours, and click to call function. The better long term solution is having a responsive design. A responsive website is a site that adjusts the content to be viewable on any size screen. The advantage is having all of the content on a website available to people viewing it on a mobile device. Unless a business wants to see a decline in traffic (and more importantly potential customers) to their website, it is critical to have a mobile friendly website. If Google penalizes a website for not being mobile optimized, it will definitely result in less visits because more than half of searches are taking place on a mobile device and over 90% of people searching do not go past the first page of search results.

Board documents, provided to Suburban Life by Hamilton, said Breuder “may not be able to achieve the philosophy, mission, vision and goals of the college.” They also called for Executive Vice President Joseph Collins to serve as acting interim president. The Family Medical Leave Act entitles employees to take up to 12 work weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons, according to the U. S. Department of Labor’s website. Reasons can include the birth and care of a child; care for a spouse, child or parent with a serious health condition; a condition that makes the employee unable to perform the essential functions of his or her job; and any qualifying demands relating to an employee’s spouse, child or parent being a member of the military.

Breuder has been at the center of many of the controversies surrounding the college, including a $763,000 buyout trustees approved for him in January. The federal government issued a trio of subpoenas to the school in April. The first two, delivered April 13, focused on the spending habits of Breuder, trustees and senior management and requested information about the college’s Suburban Law Enforcement Academy. The third, served April 16, requests video and audio from 2:30 to 11:59 p.m. April 13 of the interior and exterior of the college’s Student Resource Center, which houses Breuder’s office, Samborn said in a previous interview. Hamilton said regardless of Breuder’s leave, she believed the new board would represent true and uncompromised reform. She said she was happy to work with everyone, including board members who served through the school’s turbulent last few months, but said the community wanted and deserved change. “There is no time to waste, and I would like to get as much done before the new school year as possible,” she said. “The purpose of the board is to be a voice for the community. I think that’s the problem right now – I don’t think the prior board listened to the community.”

The controversial president of the College of DuPage won’t be in office when trustees potentially take a scheduled vote on whether to put him on paid administrative leave today. The school announced Tuesday night President Robert Breuder would be taking an approved medical leave Robert Breuder beginning Wednesday. The college’s one-sentence news release did not state who approved the leave, how long it would last or who would assume Breuder’s responsibilities while he was away. Breuder did not attend the board’s March or February meetings. College spokesman Randall Samborn said the leave fell under the Family Medical Leave Act and “was approved under the policies that exist for any employee.” He said he had no further information. The announcement came just less than 48 hours before the board’s next meeting, where the new, post-election board plans to consider a slew of topics surrounding the monthslong image crisis and legal firestorm in which the

The recreational sports and competitive sports include wheelchair basketball, boccia, archery, softball, swimming, track and field, goal-oriented fitness, samplers, demonstrations, clinics and more. Although the individual programs at both SRAs were successful on their own, this cooperative effort addressed several challenges inherent to any adaptive sports program. First, they can be expensive to maintain because of the need for specialized equipment, travel, transportation and staffing costs. Second, because there are a relatively low number of athletes from each area, forming teams and pursuing a variety of skill levels are constant challenges. Through this single coordinated effort, Synergy is delivering bigger and better opportunities where individuals can flourish both athletically and socially, thereby creating healthier, happier youth and adults. In April, the Synergy wheelchair basketball prep team was able to reach its potential on and off the court. These young athletes (12 and younger) came home champions, at least in our eyes, from their first trip to nationals. They entered the tournament seeded 11th and finished fourth. What an inspiring accomplishment. The Synergy boccia athletes are training for their trip to boccia nationals. Synergy also has been reaching out to children, teens and adults through the Illinois Spina Bifida Association, introducing them to a variety of sports in which they never dreamed of participating. If you or someone you know thought they couldn’t get involved in sports because of a physical injury or disability, I encourage you to learn more about Synergy Adaptive Athletics. We want everyone to live life to its fullest. For more information about the Synergy Adaptive Athletics program, visit www.synergyaa.com or call 630-384-8542.

The College of DuPage announced Tuesday evening President Robert Breuder is taking a medical leave of absence.

OUR VIEW

Breuder’s leave one more step in the right direction for COD It’s the result that many people wanted, but not the way most wanted it. College of DuPage President Robert Breuder’s medical leave accomplishes something that was necessary a long time ago – he’s no longer running the school. To begin the process of rebuilding the community’s trust in the institution, the man who for many symbolized all that was wrong with the current way of doing business had to go. If Breuder is in fact seriously ill, we wish him a speedy recovery. If it was simply a cynical effort to evade a likely vote Thursday that would probably put him on leave anyway ... well, then we’re simply relieved that he’s no longer in charge, however it happened. The new Board of Trustees has a lot to figure out in their first weeks. Who is going to run the school on a day-to-day basis? How should they respond to all the federal and county subpoenas flying around? How can the administration rebuild trust with the stu-

dents, faculty and community? Who will get the title of “president” when Breuder is finally, permanently out of the job? The subpoenas that have been lodged by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office aren’t proof there was any illegal activity. There have been accusations of document destruction by Board Vice Chairwoman Kathy Hamilton, and those accusations definitely need to be investigated thoroughly. If there was any criminal activity related to the finances of the College of DuPage Foundation, it needs to be prosecuted. We don’t know what those subpoenas will turn up, if there will be charges or if this will all just fizzle out. One thing we do know – with the new members of the board elected this month, and Breuder taking a medical leave – the ranks of leadership are changing at the school. We will all be watching to be sure the new leaders do a better job than the old.

There’s nothing wrong with two-income families To the individual who stated, “School should never be used as a free baby-sitting service,” your statement, “One should never need two incomes to support a family.” First of all, the vast majority of households in the U.S. are two-income households (59.1 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics), so you are condemning most of the families in the United States. You have no right to make such a statement based on the financial needs of others. Second, many women work because they choose to work and obtain fulfillment from having both a career and a family. And who are you to judge that women cannot have both a career and a family?

By C.R. Walker Here’s a question for you. What is something you can learn to do that can provide lots of pleasure, improve your health and well-being and put you in position to possibly save someone’s life as well as your own? The answer is swimming. The Glen Ellyn Park District’s Learn to Swim program provides a positive, funfilled opportunity for children and adults to learn skills that will help reduce the number of accidents as well as provide opportunities for lifelong enjoyment. Classes are filling quickly and some will start in early June. Visit www.gepark. org for more details. Parents & Tot Water Exploration will introduce your infant to the water and you will learn how to manage an aquatic emergency as well as receive CPR instruction.

Pre-Beginning class is for children between three and five years of age. They will be taught how to respect and enjoy the water, rather than fear it, and will also learn some basic skills. There are three different levels of Journey classes. Many different skills will be taught, and as progress is made, you will advance, learning things like the front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, as well as the butterfly and sidestroke. Private swim lessons, which are 30-minute one-on-one lessons tailored to meet personal needs and goals, are available for children between three and 12 and for those 16 and older. Additional aquatic programs, including snorkeling, springboard diving, scuba, aqua aerobics and aqua zumba are also being offered this summer. Those interested in competitive swimming should consider the Glen Ellyn Gators swim team. With so many offerings, now’s the time to sign up to learn how to swim, because mastering this skill at a young age can benefit you throughout your life.

Contact the Glen Ellyn Park District at (630) 858-2462 for more information.

Would you be surprised if someone was elected president if one parent was a high-level government official, the other was a Ph.D. and global expert on metalworking, a grandparent was a vice president of a substantial bank, who went to Harvard, held leadership positions, graduated, got a law degree and served in the Senate, would you be surprised? Because that’s our president, Barack Obama.

Stop the interruptions on TV I don’t understand why the TV reporters and the weather reporters always have to interrupt the program when they can wait until 4 o’clock at the news that is not that important. Full-day kindergarten isn’t about baby-sitting, it’s extended learning To the reader opposed to full-day kindergarten – you are right, kindergarten is not free baby-sitting. It is an extended learning opportunity, a socialization tool and an ability to build bonds outside the household. More than 90 percent of Illinois elementary schools have full-day kindergarten. This isn’t about baby-sitting, it’s about rethinking a system to be in line with today’s expectations on education. So before you cast judgment on dual income families (because that’s what you’re doing, under the guise of a debate about full-day kindergarten), take a look at the bigger picture beyond Downers Grove. There is a whole world out there and I for one would like my children to learn about it – taught by trained educators, not baby sitters.

I wish that the DuPage law enforcement agencies would stop arresting people for marijuana possession, especially when the people they are arresting are older than 21 years old. It’s frustrating to see it in the newspaper and online that people are being arrested for this drug that is not harming anyone and is now legal in four states in the country. I’m sure the law enforcement agencies in DuPage could use their resources to fight real crime in this county.

District 200 facing $51 million in facility work By NATHAN LURZ nlurz@shawmedia.com WHEATON – Capital improvements have long been high on the to-do list for Community Unit School District 200. In the next few years, they may shoot to the top. The Board of Education received an updated report April 22 on its facilities and got a $51.3 million projection of high-priority work to be done in the next three years. “We drafted an overview of this part of our master plan so that we can have a succinct ability to communicate with our stakeholders about what the overall needs are and where they exist,” board Secretary Brad Paulsen said. Most of the pressing needs involve roofing and electrical and mechanical systems, he said. The update added Hubble Middle School, Woodland Elementary School, Jefferson Early Childhood Center and the School Services Center as areas to monitor for potential work. The possible capital needs of each relevant building were rated by condition on a scale of one to three. Those rated three were low priori-

“That work has to happen because if not you’re going to encounter some conditions within buildings that cause you to need to continue to do some emergency solutions and that might not afford you the ability to use dollars wisely to address both physical needs and programmatic needs.” Jeff Schuler District 200 superintendent

ty, and projected to be stable more than nine years. Buildings rated two would likely require attention in four to eight years and those rated one need to be addressed in the next three years. Just to address high priority items, the district would need to spend about $10 million in 2016, $10.1 million in 2017 and $31.1 million in 2018 for a total of about $51.3 million. The district would be accountable for an additional $87.1 million for condition two projects down the line, according to district documents. Jefferson could require $5.6 million

– nearly all – of its work in the first year of the projected three-year condition one timeline. Some of its issues present safety concerns, district Director of Facility Operations John Robinson said. He said last year the school’s 58-year-old boiler gave out one weekend. Though staff was able to repair it before the day was through, the school could have had to close for weeks while waiting for a temporary boiler. Paulsen said the costs were rough estimates providing a road map of what needed to be done, and that the district would lean on feedback from

schools and the community moving forward. Robinson said the district could complete $489,144 worth of work across nine schools using capital reserves in 2015, including adding another boiler at Jefferson and asphalt replacement at seven schools. The district intends to hire an architecture firm to work on its master facility plan in May, Superintendent Jeff Schuler said. Then plans will progress to bidding and specific pricing. Schuler said there are pressing projects on the horizon. “That work has to happen because if not you’re going to encounter some conditions within buildings that cause you to need to continue to do some emergency solutions and that might not afford you the ability to use dollars wisely to address both physical needs and programmatic needs,” he said. Though the board did not act to fund anything April 22, future costs weighed on some of its members. “The reality of it is what concerns me, and that’s how do we get there?” board member Jim Mathieson said. “That’s the challenge.”

By NATHAN LURZ nlurz@shawmedia.com WHEATON – Getting fit can be a daunting task for many, whether you have been active before or not. The B Fit B Active Expo, hosted by the Kane County Chronicle and Suburban Life Media, featured a panel of health and fitness experts from around the area discussing ways to help jump-start and sustain a healthy lifestyle. The five professionals covered ways to take care of your body, how to set attainable fitness goals and how to turn a passion for exercise and nutrition into a successful business during the event April 22 at Cantigny Park in Wheaton. CrossFit trainer and nutritional enthusiast Britt Crow said fitness, no matter the sport or exercise of choice, was about choosing long-term habits, not short-term goals. “It’s finding a fitness routine that’s going to give you something you can do for life,” Crow said. Crow joined Ron Anderson, who started several fitness and medical centers; world-class Ironman competitor and nutritional expert Ryan Giuliano; injury prevention expert and triathlon competitor Dr. Kevan Ketterling; and fitness entrepreneur Chris Leathers on the panel. Anderson stressed that

those looking to make a change in their fitness habits need to drop the monthly binge on green detox drinks and make it permanent. “If you have a goal in mind, whether personally, professionally, whatever it is – you have to make a conscious decision that that’s what you want,” Anderson said. “After that, you have to learn what it is going to take today for me to do so that tomorrow I can be one step closer to that goal.” Properly setting goals was important for reaching them, Giuliano said. When he started his Ironman training in college, he couldn’t even swim the length of a pool, he said. But by creating specific, measurable, realistic and timely goals, he was able to become nationally competitive in the sport. He encourages the same process for all those going through the highs and lows on their individual journeys. Ketterling said throughout the training experience, it’s important not only to have proper cross-training and form but to listen to your body when it tells you to take a break. Leathers said he encourages people of all ages to start and chase what they want in business and in fitness. “It’s never too late to start,” he said. “And don’t let the fear of failure stop you from achieving your goals.”

was released by Chalupny and did well to release a right-footed effort that seemed destined for the back of the net until it was tipped wide by Angerer’s fingertips. Instead of celebrating a third Chicago tally, the fans at Benedictine University saw their team’s lead cut in half just before the half-hour mark. Allie Long found Sinclair at the top of the penalty box and the Canada striker hit a low shot that found its way through traffic and inside the left post for a clinic in precision goal-scoring. Portland nearly leveled the match four minutes from the break, LeBlanc rushing off her line and coming up with a stunning block to deny Sinclair’s toe-poke from close range. Thorns FC finally tied things up in the opening stages of the second period, as Shim pounced on a partial clearance by taking a touch at the edge of the box and picking out the inside of the far post with a well-placed left-footed blast. The Red Stars were fortunate not to concede another goal when Sinclair subsequently found Comeau unmarked inside the penalty area and the midfielder send a mishit effort well over the frame. The visitors got even closer to the go-ahead tally in the 74th minute, substitute Kendall Johnson feeding Sinead Farrell, whose excellent chipped attempt bounced off the underside off the crossbar and came within inches of crossing the line. Chicago defender and New Zealand captain Abby Erceg had the game’s final quality chance when she beat several defenders to ball on DiBernardo free-kick from midfield, only to see the dangerous header parried by Angerer. The Chicago Red Stars look to stay undefeated on the season when they host American legend Christie Rampone and Sky Blue FC on Saturday, May 2. Single-game and season tickets for the 2015 Red Stars campaign may be purchased by visiting www.chicagoredstars.com or by calling 773-698-6001.

Chicago, Illinois – National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Chicago Red Stars drew 2-2 in a spirited affair with mighty Portland Thorns FC on Saturday night. Reigning NWSL Player of the Week Christen Press had her second straight twogoal performance to open the 2015 season, but Thorns FC clawed its way back into the game and earned a point courtesy of goals from Christine Sinclair and Mana Shim before halftime. In the early stages of the clash with Portland, Chicago continued right where it had left off in the dramatic 3-2 victory over Seattle the previous week. A mere four minutes into the match, Press took down an excellent long ball by captain Lori Chalupny and cut to her right, followed by a beautiful curler that left outstretched German international goalkeeper Nadine Angerer without a chance. U.S. Women’s National Team star Press was at it again just four minutes later, receiving the ball from midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo and exploding past her marker on the left side of the penalty area. The 26-year-old fired at goal from a tight angle and was delighted to see her attempt deflect off defender Courtney Niemiec and underneath Angerer for the day’s second strike. Portland nearly pulled one back moments later, as Tobin Heath worked her way to the by-line on the right and sent a dangerous cross toward the far past, only to see Red Stars netminder Karina LeBlanc produce a stunning kick-save to deny the unmarked Shim. The rebound fell straight Thorns FC debutant Taylor Comeau, whose effort ricocheted off a defender before being headed off the line by well-positioned Chicago defender Julie Johnston. The Red Stars nearly found the net at the other end in the 15th minute, rookie Danielle Colaprico swinging in a corner kick from the left that was nodded just over the frame by legendary U.S. midfielder Shannon Boxx. Three minutes later, Press thought she had a hat trick when she

AMAZING ARBORETUM ESTATES

CHICAGO, April 23, 2015 – When Linda Feinstein changed the affiliation of her successful real estate brokerage in Hinsdale, Ill., from ERA to the RE/MAX Northern Illinois network in October of last year, she brought along 40 affiliated brokers and established RE/MAX Signature Homes. Feinstein was honored at the annual RE/MAX convention in March, held this year in Las Vegas, for completing the 2014 conversion of a single office that brought the largest number of agents into the RE/MAX network in the United States. In 2014, RE/ MAX welcomed 36 existing real estate brokerages and their 256 Linda Feinstein affiliated agents into its U.S. network. RE/MAX added a total of 253 franchises in the U.S. last year. “The Hinsdale area is one of the premier housing markets in the Chicago suburbs, so adding such an outstanding office and talented group of brokers has been a huge positive for our network,” said Jim Merrion, regional director of RE/MAX Northern Illinois. Feinstein explained that the decision to affiliate her office with RE/MAX was based on the organization’s progressive approach to all facets of the real estate business. “I was especially impressed with the technology that RE/MAX provides,” said Feinstein. “It is light-years ahead of the competition. I see this as an opportunity to grow my own business, but more importantly as a way to grow the business of every broker in our office.” RE/MAX has been the leader in the northern Illinois real estate market since 1989 and is continually growing. The RE/MAX Northern Illinois network, with headquarters in Elgin, Ill., consists of 2,200+ sales associates and 105 independently owned and operated RE/MAX offices that provide a full range of residential and commercial brokerage services. Its mobile real estate app, available for download at [ http://www.illinoisproperty.com/ ]www.illinoisproperty.com, provides comprehensive information about residential and commercial property for sale in the region. The northern Illinois network is part of RE/ MAX, a global real estate organization with 100,000+ sales associates in 90+ nations.

Chris Simpson ended up the winning pitcher after striking out five and allowing six hits in seven frames. “Guys were believing a little bit and it’s contagious,” Brylka said. “Earlier in the game, we had some good at-bats and were putting pressure on them but had hit into a couple of double plays. “We felt our approach was there all day and we ended up a getting a few bounces in our favor [in the seventh].” WWS beat Huntley 7-4 in a nonconference matchup April 23. Kelly had a home run and two RBIs and Eric Giltz went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Michael Zavala also had two hits. Grant Negris pitched three innings of scoreless relief, striking out five. NAPERVILLE – Nearly 20 games into the 2015 spring campaign, it’s already been a tale of two seasons for the Wheaton Warrenville South baseball team. After starting out the year with a 1-8 record, the squad has reeled off nine victories in their last 10 games after Tuesday’s 6-0 shutout of Naperville North. “We had some close losses early and I think those close losses paid off,” said coach Tim Brylka, whose team lost their first six games by three runs or less. “We said at the time, this is going to help us down the road and we talked about finishing the year strong. The past couple of years, we’ve had good starts and then kind of fizzled.” In the middle game of the series against the Huskies, it was Austin Polezoes who stole the headlines. The senior right-hander tossed his second consecutive one-hitter, allowing just a one-out hit in the fifth on a two-strike pitch. He walked nobody and struck out three. He also got aided by an outstanding defensive effort, which included a strong running catch in the gap by center fielder Spiro Pavlou, which turned into a double play in the third inning. WWS led only 1-0 at that time. “My teammates made every play behind me,” Polezoes said. “That catch in left-center, where we got that double play, that was huge. All the momentum changed after that play.” The victory was the team’s eighth straight to begin DuPage Valley conference play [WWS was scheduled to wrap up the series against Naperville North on Wednesday]. “It’s been really fun,” Polezoes said of the hot streak the Tigers are on. “It is hard to explain. We were 1-8 out of conference and all of a sudden, we are 8-0 in conference. It’s crazy.” The Tigers began their series against Naperville North with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory Monday.
