But eliminating workouts entirely for just two weeks can start to have a significant, negative impact on your cardiovascular fitness, lean muscle mass and insulin sensitivity. So you definitely don’t want too much down time before hitting the gym, the yoga mat or the jogging trail again. Here are some tips on re-starting your workouts safely and effectively:

Get the green light from your doctor. Maximize your workouts safely and without fear.

Identify your motivation. Think about all the reasons to work out, and pick the one (or more) that resonates the most with you.

Set goals. Keep in mind, you will have good and bad days, so you should be able to adapt.

Find the fun. Try a variety of classes and activities. If you don't like one, move on to another until you find an atmosphere that works best for you.

Find a partner. It's harder to skip spinning class if your friend is counting on you to show up.

Pace yourself. Start slow but allow for greater gains as you continue. Three sessions of 30 minutes a week is a good place for most people to start.
